I just saw on the news that the IHSAA announced Indiana fall HS sports are back on schedule beginning July 1. That sounds encouraging but IN & KY haven’t agreed on many of the social distancing issues.

I’m always interested in watching young players develop beginning with their sophmore season. Who are some of the top class of 2023 players who have a chance to contribute this season? Some players mature physically earlier than others so throw in anybody you wish who has potential down the road but still needs a year or two for their body to catch up with their ability.

Just a simple helmet question: You see more teams wearing white helmets. Are white helmets less expensive than colored helmets? I understand that the helmets with “metal flakes” would cost more.

With the cancellation of spring practice and the likelihood of off-season conditioning & workouts being curtailed or even cancelled, will we see football in the state of KY take a step back? Since spring practice was reinstituted there has been an uptick in the caliber of teams and players performances. Now most preseason workouts will have to be done individually away from school. I know most of the programs will find a way for players to work on their strength and football skills on their own but it won’t be the same without the watchful eye of the staff. It just appears that we won’t see the same caliber of play that we’ve seen in the last 10-15 years.

Is the new supplier the same one that Trinity uses?

Is STX considered a Nike school if that term is even used in HS? I’ve noticed that most of their teams wear Nike apparel. This does sound like a move made outside the athletic department. All the bean counters can see is dollars & cents. Sometimes the cheapest price isn’t always the best deal. Hope they know what they are doing.

Will the renovation Spencer Co did on their football facility be ready for the 2020 season?

From what I’ve heard schools that get the turf fields will make their stadiums available for other schools to use at no cost. The school will get money from concessions. This would be a great option for November playoff games when most fields are practically unplayable.

For turf fields, I’ve heard that Jefferson Co will be divided into 4 regions, with 1 school in each region getting a field. Central is one school who is definitely getting one and a good chance Fern Creek will be the other. The other 2 will come from Butler & PRP for the southwest area and between Male & Manual for the other region. 2 fields will be ready for the 2020 season and the other 2 will be ready for the 2021 season. Then the process will be repeated.

I’ve heard talk that the Jefferson County school board will install turf fields at a few schools during the off-season. One school that has been mentioned is Fern Creek. Has anyone heard if this is true or not?

Is it because he knows they are hiring someone else?

With all due respect to the Shawnee program, and I hate to even suggest it, but it may be time to disband this program. The safety of the players must be the first priority.

What is the best finals game you’ve ever seen? A lot of talk that some of this year’s games were some of the best. But what game over the years stands out to you? For me I would have to say the 2009 Lone Oak/Boyle Co game won by Boyle. If I recall correctly the game went 2 OTs and lasted about 4 hours. I know that Lone Oak threw the ball all day. The game lasted so long that the game after them had to be delayed. Hard to top that game for me. But then again there was the Trinity/Male game, Brohm vs Bush.

Hate to say this but if Male threw the ball a little better the game could have been a little closer. Several times Male had receivers open down the sideline but the QB just couldn’t connect. But Trinity was by far the better team.

Was this the PAT? If so why was the ball snapped from inside the 1 yard line? Was there a foul against DeSales on the previous play. Just wondering. Sorry. I see where it was on the TD in the 2nd OT.

It’s a shame when the conduct and actions of adults in the stands takes away from the effort and success of the kids on the field.

I saw at the STX game the field was a mess. Any chatter about moving the game to a turf field?

FD has turf don’t they? Friday night’s games around the state could be a mess with rain in the forecast.
