  1. I was talking to a parent who has a son playing at STX. He said because of the lack of availability of the football field because of other sports using it after school, they have had a few 90 minute practices at 6:00 AM before school and practices on Sunday afternoon.
  2. A lot of schools have completed spring practice, have finished a few practices or will be starting soon. Would like to hear any reports on spring practices and how things are going. This is the time when coaches see what they have returning and what areas they need to work on when July practice starts. Feel free to post.
  3. I know that certain regions of the state do things a little differently than other regions especially in the last 2 years. One of the things I’ve noticed is the elimination of captains and the HC meeting with the Referee at midfield for the coin toss. Some regions have just the 2 HCs meeting with the white hat for the toss without the team captains. I was wondering if the KHSAA has established a standard way to conduct the toss. It was always an honor to be selected a captain and to represent your team at the toss. A lot of times being selected was a way to reward a player (usually someone who doesn’t get a lot of playing time) for a good week of practice. Now, for the most part, walking to midfield as a captain has been eliminated from the game. Here’s hoping that this tradition makes a return for the 2022 season.
  4. Does a kid who has been at Cov Cath, Trinity or say STX, who has been on the fringe of playing time but hasnt made the 2 deep roation as a SR, transfer for more playing and give up the prestige of graduating from a private school in order to get more playing time? Financially parents have a lot invested in 3 years and don't get that diploma they wanted 3 years ago.
  5. Once he proves himself at the FCS level, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him transfer up to the FBS level.
  6. The same as last year's opponents with the sites (except for Trinity game) flipped. Only 3 regular season home games last year; 6 this year. Should be interesting. Aug 5 at Eastern (Gold scrimmage) Aug 12 Fredrick Douglas (Scrimmage) Aug 19 Owensboro Aug 26 Lou Central Sept 2 at Male Sept 9 Open Sept 16 at Cincy Elder Sept 23 Trinity (Cardinal Stadium) Sept 30 Ryle Oct 7 Manual Oct 14 at Butler Oct 21 PRP Oct 28 Bowling Green
  7. Hey Tigerpride94, who do you envision being StX’s QB for 2022? Will they move Boone back to QB or go with Havill?
  8. I remember my HS days and we had maybe 8 cheerleaders. StX must have had 40+. My how things have changed.
  9. When Wallace went to StX he inherited a program that was going downhill fast. He had to restructure the whole culture back to what StX was known for. It may not have been as fast as the fans and alumni wanted but he got the job done and the future looks bright. His 2022 team should be even better than this year’s team. A lot of young guys played major roles this season
  10. Is it just me or is the 6A game always the last one to be played?
  11. Male has too many weapons on offense. X will have to chose which one they focus on stopping and hope the other one is having a bad game. I don't see how it will be possible for X to stop both of Male's running and passing game. St X will keep the game close with their ball control offense but I see a score close to the first game with Male winning 28-24.
  12. For years STX & Male were in the same district since they are about 6 miles apart. Should be an interesting game.
  13. Last week against Dunbar, MC only attempted 5 passes. If you want to beat STX, you have to be able to throw the ball. I don’t know if they won’t or they can’t throw the ball but being one dimensional against the X defense is going to be trouble for MC. X names the score, 45-7.
  14. I wonder what the field conditions will be at Male? This late in the season I’m sure it’s more mud than grass. I think this will be an advantage for Male. Make it Male 31-17.
  15. StX needs to do what they do best and that’s to run the ball, whether it’s Sivori, Walsh or Richardson. They also just got back the JR running back from an early season lower leg injury. So the depth is there to be efficient in running the ball, especially late in the game if DC has a lot of players going both ways. StX 35-14.
  16. Running against Manual will not be the same as running against Butler. So Richardson has to be ready for a long night if Walsh is still slowed down from last weeks game. Still expect X to grind it out running the ball and an occasional pass from Sivori. With the cold windy weather moving in it’ll be the hardest hitting game of the season. X 17-6
  17. There's a possibility in the playoffs that Daviess Co may travel to Louisville for a game against StX. Good opportunity to see how he performs against a highly rated defense. Would be a great match up. Hope it happens.
  18. Why is it 36? There isn’t much difference between 35 & 36. I’ve been following HS football for a long time and I can’t recall one time where a team was down by 35 points and came back to win. By making it 36 you are forcing a team that wants to get the game over with to play longer and subjecting players to injuries or embarrassing their opponent by going for 2. Another head scratching decision by the KHSAA. If you want another possession by the winning team make a running clock 29 points.
  19. Anybody heard of any more Thursday night playoff games?
  20. Until Manual develops anything that resembles a passing attack, it will struggle against X & Male. As someone previously said they are too one-dimensional with their ground game. As good as Northington is imagine if Manual had a passing game and he didn't have to face defenses that had 9 defenders within 5 yards of LOS. Northington will have a much better college career than most people think simply because he won't be expected to carry the whole offense.
  21. A lot of good quality refs have called it quits and not enough new refs have taken up the slack. This will be an ongoing problem; Thursday night games will be common for the foreseeable future.
  22. Compared to the previous 2 classes, the Class of ‘24 sophomores at StX are a step below. There are a good number of sophomores getting quality playing time on the varsity level but the overall talent isn’t there. The goal of any JV program is to get players ready to contribute on the varsity level, whether it be this year or the future. Success on the JV level is not a clear indication of what success those teams will have against future varsity competition. You can load your JV team with JRs and have a good record but what success will they have on the varsity when they are SRs?
  23. Reminds me of when Manual, St X, Flaget and sometimes Male shared Manual Stadium on Friday & Saturday nights every week. Storms in Sept made the field that exact way for the rest of the year.
