The Shawnee job was posted to the KHSAA site on January 3rd. This will be the third coaching search for the Golden Eagles in 3 years. The new hire will be the 4th head coach in the last 4 years, and the 6th head coach in the last decade.

Last season Coach Walker had 1 senior, 8 juniors, 6 sophomores, and 6 freshman on the 21 man roster. That was down 10 players from the year before. 2018's roster was the high water mark for the last 5 half decade, and 2019 was the 5 year low.

 

Shawnee is just a really, really tough place to be for football.

Hate that for the kids that want to play. They need a stable coach.

Only had 12 players in uniform against Walton-Verona in last district game of the year & requested 10 minute quarters with a running clock all the way through. Tough for kids who actually stuck it out, but at what time are schools like this forced to play a non-district schedule?

With all due respect to the Shawnee program, and I hate to even suggest it, but it may be time to disband this program. The safety of the players must be the first priority.
