We know all 8 teams, just what order. My guess on Friday it will be: 1. NCC 2. Highlands 1. NDA 2. Beechwood 1. St. Henry 2. Villa 1. Ryle 2. Cooper Draw is Sat. Everyone will be looking to draw opposite NDA. Villa, Highlands, or Cooper will get NDA first round.

I don't know what the volleyball expectations are at CC, and I don't know if I would use the regular season to develop players, that's what the offseason and club is for. After beating Brossart in regular season, 4 losses in a row heading into Districts showed that the Camels were not ready. But as has been consistently brought up this whole season, school size really has nothing to do with it. Who starts playing early and who's playing year 'round seem to be the most important factors. And the coach.

yes, I know. The point is they always say it's all about kids' safety, when really it's all about liability and not getting sued. Driving to school to catch a bus to local game, or driving directly to the local game - same player risk, much different school risk.

That at least some schools have found a way to do away with stupid rules. How about finding different insurance that doesn't require a bus for every trip? Is there a powerful bus driver's union that I don't know about? So a Dixie player can live across the street from Villa, but has to drive all the way to Dixie to catch a bus back to Villa? How is that less risky to the player than just driving to Villa? It's not, in fact, it's exposing said player to more risk.

Volleyball isn't golf. Make as much noise as you want when someone is serving. Happens everywhere. yell, scream, stomp, there's no rule against that and it's just like someone shooting a free throw - not bad sportsmanship at all in my book. Yellow cards are up to the officials. It's a judgement call, and everyone is different. Did fans cross the line when yelling specific names and/or directing their cheering at one player vs cheering/chanting in general? Not in my book, as long as it was "clean" - but maybe in yours. I get how teams would be penalized for their fans. That happens everywhere in every sport. But were they warned first? I think everyone deserves a warning first before the cards come out. And yes, volleyball has both yellow and red cards for players, coaches, fans.

So instead of working harder and getting better, let's just start up the NIT, just to claim what, you're the best public school? Just like no one believes the "All-A" is a state championship, that would be a hollow victory as well, knowing certain teams were left off the invitation list. There's 16 Regions and only 3 of them typically have a private school winning them. That's at least 13 opportunities for Public Schools every year. There's a ton of posts on here this year explaining the reasons private schools do well - and it's not because they are on "unequal" footing. Public schools rake in the tax $$, they have the facilities, and they often have a larger female student class (see previous posts). What they don't have is a commitment to the sport to start earlier and make volleyball a priority, and the same commitment from the parents to play year 'round.

As if beating Assumption once in a season isn't rare enough, when was the last time ND beat them twice in a season? I'll guess never. But who thought the Bengals would be 5-0, or that the Cubs would win a playoff series? Maybe this is ND's year too.

With 1 week to go in the regular season, which of the "Big 4" is the favorite remains a murky mystery.. I don't know about volleyball, but in other sports I've seen area/regional coaches get it everywhere from almost right to leaving me SMH. Lots of bias against successful programs and/or rivals. But you're right - I don't know who else would be qualified. Kinda stuck with it. But I'm not a fan of having rules in selecting these teams - for example - does every school have to be represented? What's the max # of players from 1 school? Coaches should be able to make a list and submit it. Probably doesn't work that way though.

It's an eternal question - who should get individual post-season awards? Should they mostly go to winning teams that are deep with talent, meaning several players are selected from the same team...or is it a chance to recognize players on teams that are maybe average, but the individuals are considered above average players? How would you do it? By position? By grade? By school size? Or forget all that and just go by what you see? Which brings up another consideration - what are you seeing? If the only matches you see are Assumption, Sacred Heart, Mercy, Notre Dame - you could argue that those are the best players, and best teams, period. They should get the awards. All 4 are nationally ranked. Hard to argue against that. But most teams and matches aren't at that level. Maybe you only get to see your local team, with player xx who stands out above the rest - is that who should be individually recognized? I know the "All-Tourney Team" formula for Districts and Regionals - winning team gets MVP plus 2-3 more, runner up gets 2-3, everyone else gets 1. The KVCA and coaches' organizations like the NKYGVCA seem to go by school size. The Enquirer All-Stars usually includes at least 1 player in the "honorable mention" section from each team no matter what. What would you do and who should get them?

If ND wins vs SHA is anyone even talking about this?

I'm sure if you asked PSU's RR, he'd say he's made a lot of coaching mistakes in his time - and this line-up change may be one of them. PSU's new line-up lost to Nebraska 3-2 at home (after being up 2-0 - when has that ever happened?) and struggled BIG TIME against an Iowa team that's winless in the B1G. No one is 100% right all the time, and only time will tell if this move will pay off, but they were doing pretty well (understatement) before the moves. After going with a line-up that defeated national power McAuley in their own gym, and then Assumption for the first time in 2 years, who would even think "you know this line-up isn't working..." and change it for the Championship. No one. Real easy to over-analyze it now. Use the stats and outcome to illustrate a bigger picture problem moving forward - yes. But hard to say they shouldn't have gone with the same line-up that got them there - especially in that moment.

No - not under the current system. What's the difference between "No" and "Not in my Lifetime" ? Is "No" forever, but does "not in my lifetime" mean that in 80 years, it's a "yes"?

my random thoughts on this: I've seen Borders play in person in both school and club, along with most others in area. She could probably play D2 or D3 or NAIA. With the 2 year recruiting cycle for setters, most D1's are done recruiting setters now. I watched her skills video - and the first minute or so is nothing but her left handed attacking - coaches want to see sets from the setter - perfect sets from imperfect passes. Yes, good players can be found anywhere, but being in small clubs her whole career certainly hasn't helped her exposure, and her HS team is average or below. And yes, being recruited and having an offer are 2 different things. For the record, no one I know of who's gotten a scholarship offer has ever signed up for a recruiting service. She's a good player but probably middle of the pack for setters in NKY..Bush, Talkers, Franxman all above her, and Ogle and Freppon probably same level with her. With that kind of competition, I don't know what sort of recognition you are hoping she will get.

That's not even close to being true. Off the top of my head I can name 10 schools that all have more girls than Assumption...Scott Co, Henry Clay, PLD, Eastern, Henderson Co, Ballard, Lafayette, DuPont Manual, Pleasure Ridge, Central Hardin. And that's just Assumption, the list gets huge if I include NDA and Mercy who have HUNDREDS less girls than Assumption (and hundreds less than Sacred Heart too)

That is completely false for women's volleyball. From a % standpoint, you have a better shot at a 4 year full ride in volleyball than soccer and softball. Put down that glove, put away the cleats, and get in the gym.

There are several converging issues here, not necessarily fixable by the same solution, and each one overlapping the other. Issue 1: Small schools - both public and private, both rural and city, have no chance to win State. They don't. Do not quote me Holy Cross in girls basketball. Volleyball is completely different. Solution: Classes is the only way to fix this in Volleyball. Problem: Then the small private schools will dominate the smaller class. Issue 2: Private schools, regardless of size, completely dominate KY HS volleyball. Solution: honestly, it's that public schools and their players have to get better. Less basketball, more volleyball. More club. Start earlier. Qualified coaches. Treat it as a priority, not the 2nd or 3rd sport. There are many public schools with a female enrollment that's equal or greater than the privates, so the talent pool is there, it's just not being developed. Alternative: Kick the private schools out of the KHSAA. But what does that accomplish? Issue 3: The KHSAA tries to run every sport like basketball - and it's not working for volleyball. Solutions: Re-draw the Regions for volleyball, placing more Regions in the volleyball hotbeds of Louisville, NKY, and Lexington. or..Keep the 16 Region winners and add 6 at-large teams and make the field 24, play the extra games on Friday. And play the Friday and Saturday rounds at 2 locations so there is no time advantage to teams in the upper half of the bracket. Discussion: What is fair? What is fair to all? Is it fair that only one - Assumption OR Sacred Heart - get to go to State every year, while Region XX sends their team? Do you re-draw the Regions to get more teams from the power Regions in, meaning less teams from the rest of the State? Do you add 6 at-large State tournament invites? Can the KHSAA recognize that volleyball is a very different sport and may need some changes?

Explain how in the world ND is a disappointment... Ranked 4th in State...with wins over #2 and #5...only 3 in-state losses, all to ranked teams...#1, #5, #12...with a big one coming up against #3 NCC Hardly disappointing, or mediocre, Mediocre.

25-13, 25-13, 25-17. looks like St Henry only team left in 9th to possibly knock off Pandas. I'm sure Conner fans think they will have a shot at home. Good luck with that. As for Ryle, meh. Same old Ryle. Nothing to see here. Keep moving.

25-10, 25-19, 25-13. Book the hotel rooms now for State. Scott wins the 10th Region going away and it's not even close. All depends on their draw for State as to how far they go. Draw one of the "big 4" and that's it. 2nd place in District will now get real interesting. I have to give Brossart the edge over Camels right now.

Being a VB coach at a public school is a thankless job, where players and parents see it as their "2nd" sport, where limited success is the best you can hope for, and where the school seemingly only has a team to balance out the all-male football team. No public school is going to step-up to keep a volleyball coach.

If that happens, I'll take a .500 ND team over an undefeated NC team all day because of a much tougher schedule and deeper bench.

No it won't be a good measuring stick in Ohio. Teams like Campbell County, Oak Hills, and Cincinnati Christian? Scott doesn't have a good team left on it's regular season schedule. Hopefully will get a good match-up at the PLD tourney depending on who's going.
