Why oh why KHSAA do you still have the blind draw. It is a travesty and completely takes the season away from the teams who deserve a real shot at the Championship. Complete joke.

NDA, Mercy, Henry Clay and Assumption/Sacred Heart on same side of draw.

NDA (Region 9 winner) draw is most likely Lexington Henry Clay in Round 1, Scott in quarters, winner of Mercy v Sacred Heart or Assumption in semi.

Also include one of the Oldham County schools.

This makes me sick to my stomach. I feel so bad for the teams that bust their butts for almost 4 months to see a state tournament pretty much decided by the semi's of the tournament. While the opposite side of the bracket plays to get their butts kicked in the finals.

I know I am going to catch flack for the last sentence but it is the truth.

Dumbest thing I have seen in the numerous years I have been around and involved with this sport!

It is unfair to all involved. Volleyball is very different from other sports due to the amount of club ball being played at very early ages in Northern Kentucky, Louisville and Lexington. It will never change. This is the format that the KHSAA feels is fair to all.

If other state athletic associations came and watched our state tournament, they would laugh and say we were idiots. It's not a good perception for anyone, especially the state.

Welcome to Kentucky, where volleyball is treated as nothing and the KHSAA doesn't reformat the state tournament because they just don't care.

Many of you probably subscribe to PrepVolleyball.com and review their state rankings and things. They seem to do a very comprehensive job of covering teams on a nationwide level and do a lot of research to make their rankings.

 

Last week I read on the site that there are over 11,000 high school volleyball teams playing this fall. Think about that number....11,000...that is a lot of teams. Now consider this, of the 11,000 teams playing here is how the top teams in our state stack up: Assumption ranked 12th, Sacred Heart ranked 15th, Notre Dame ranked 26th, Mercy ranked 41st and Henry Clay is "on the cusp" right outside the Top 100.

 

So in our state we have 5 teams in the top 100 out of 11,000 teams. Tremendous tribute to the work these girls put in year round.

 

Makes it even a bigger joke that of the 5, only 4 will make it to State and of those 4 only 1 makes it to the Championship. I just can't believe something can't be done to make some changes. I am pretty sure that there are no other sports in the state that can boast to this kind of success on a National level. And this is not a one time thing, this is every year these same teams are in the mix nationally.

I saw this and literally wanted to throw up.

--A state tournament draw that decides the championship before the final!!

--An entire side of the bracket filled with regions whose champions most likely couldn't even get out of their district if they were in a region on the other side.

 

Be ready for an empty gym come championship Sunday. Save your money and don't buy the full weekend pass. But, I guess some will be happy to see a public school state "runner up".

Prep Volleyball also ranked Kentucky as the 4th best State to include HS and Club. Very impressive!! Hate to say it, but LIVT appears to be the "real" State tournament. Wish Henry Clay were a part of it this year.

It has nothing to do with volleyball. This is how all state tournaments are bracketed.

How so? Do all the other states seed their state tournament?

Other states have divisions, split private versus public, and seed their tournaments.

Pure Joke. Spectators.... Attend Friday/Saturday.. Sunday will be a cake walk for whomever wins the bottom half of the bracket.
