Scott(32-3) defeated Calvary Christian(13-18) 25-9, 25-5, 25-7

 

Bishop Brossart(16-15) defeated Campbell County(12-18) 25-22, 20-25, 22-25, 25-19, 15-7).

 

Big shout out to the Lady Cougar and Lady Camel Seniors for all the work you have put in over the last 4 years to raise the level of play in both the 37th District and 10th Region.

According to my records that is the first time that Brossart has defeated Campbell County since winning what was then the 39th District Tournament back on October 13th, 2010.

Congrats to all involved. Brossart and Campbell going five sets doesn't surprise me. I thought they were very similar type teams when we faced them at the end of the season, with Brossart's back row being the difference.

The inexperience of the Campbell County back line showed last night. When you're playing Jr. High and underclassman players it can come back to bite you in big games. The Coaching staff at Campbell County must have decided to develop players this year over winning. I hope that it pays off down the road 2/3 years. My observations the current coaching staff likes to run off upper class-man. 3 Seniors started season in 2016 only 1 played in last nights loss ( 1 hurt, 1 benched unknown infraction) 4 Juniors started 2 played (1 left program (team captain) dispute over unknown infractions and direction of program, 1 very limited playing time) 3 sophomores 1 started ( 2 reserves limited time).

IMO Campbell County Sports should be the bench mark of the 37th district based on the size of the school. When your potential athletic pool is double and triple your district rivals, CC should be a factory based on nothing other than class size. The volleyball team this year had a pool of 450 SR/JR girls and had 7 make the 15 player Varsity roster (6 played legit minutes),going into next year they are looking at possible 2 SR/2-3 JR on the roster. How is that possible!!! Props to Scott and Brossart for year after year going head to head and sometimes beating the stuffing out of a school that is double and triple their enrollment.

I don't know what the volleyball expectations are at CC, and I don't know if I would use the regular season to develop players, that's what the offseason and club is for. After beating Brossart in regular season, 4 losses in a row heading into Districts showed that the Camels were not ready. But as has been consistently brought up this whole season, school size really has nothing to do with it. Who starts playing early and who's playing year 'round seem to be the most important factors. And the coach.

Double or triple? I would guess at least 5 times the size.. But not certain. But I get your point

Have the underclassman and junior high kids been playing all year? When was the switch made?

I had a coach in the CC program actually tell me that they felt one of their upper classmen was a better player at the beginning of the season than she was at the end. How does a player your coaching get worse as the season goes on? I also witnessed girls playing because their parents complained about playing time. So that sums up the issues at Campbell County: players not getting better, kids getting playing time not earning it, no leadership, and to much Drama. They also came up against a motivated Brossart team who took care of business. Good Luck to the Mustangs and the Eagles in your drive to State.

Injuries were a factor at Campbell this year as well, and I've heard no one bring that up. I know they lost a couple during the year according to what a parent had told me, and were not that deep..

The sophomore that replaced her that night played very well in a tough spot and I personally thought they might have a chance to make some noise, next person up type of thing. The coach never played the JV sophomore setter after that game, moving another player into the role who had never played the position on a consistent basis and left a hole in the back line with her absence there. IMO the coaches decision made the team worse at 2 positions and their record confirms that CC only had wins over Holmes and Pendleton County after the position changes.
