5A Playoffs 2011 2nd round - Conner 84 - Franklin County 48.

This Conner team is a very good squad but the lack of depth hurt them last night. Conner only had 16 players in pads and when they lost one of their keys players to injury it definitely hurt them.

He did not play any varsity snaps at all only Freshman. Some High School coaches will play a freshman on special teams during playoff time making them ineligible to transfer easily. If the player is in one varsity play it "locks" him in to that school and makes the transfer more difficult.

Then the host school did not follow the KHSAA guidelines. That's their choice and I believe that's the way it should be. The host schools should have a right to handle the gate admission and pass gate the same way they do during the regular season.

It really is a simple reason whether you agree or not. In today's world of $$ and everyone gets a trophy generation, this playoff setup is made to give everyone a chance to try and win a championship even if they didn't deserve the opportunity through the regular season.

It's pretty simple actually. The KHSAA dictates the admission fees and it's all about the gate $$. Passes or individual team clubs that pay a club fee for admission all year still has to pay admission to each playoff game. The ticket prices are dictated by KHSAA not the individual school. Once you calculate the travel cost spent by the 3 and 4 seeds it's not a good deal for these schools. Money spent and usually another embarrassing loss.

Boone CO is 1-9 and hosting a playoff game! How pathetic is that? And they are a 2 seed. The KHSAA needs to fix this sooner than later.

SK was 4A in the early 70's when the state added a 4th level and I'm pretty sure they have stayed in the largest KY classification since. Dixie and Holmes have dropped and changed classes several times since the 70's.

Dixie, SK, Holmes, Campbell Co & Boone used to be the only 4A schools in NKY. Back then only the District winner advanced into the playoffs. Once Scott, Ryle and Cooper were built over the years changed the whole district alignment and playoff qualifications. The big NKY schools have changed from 3A all the way up to 6A over the years. I'm talking about dating back into the seventies until now.

Conner absolutely let one slip away. Conner ran the opening kick off back and went up 8-0 right out of the gate, then their defense held and came up with a couple of turnovers which they didn't take advantage. Had 1st and goal inside the 5 yard line twice, which Ryle's defense came up with with big plays to keep Conner out of the end zone. Ryle then had a huge play to end the half, with 1 second remaining on the clock Ryle scored on basically a Hail Mary that tipped off of a Conner defender. On the scoreboard, Ryle won but Conner definitely outplayed Ryle in this one. Conner only had 18 players dressed but they are a scrappy little team. Hicks looks to be the real deal, is extremely athletic and seems to be able to read defenses well and audible at the LOS. Good looking future for #7.

You can do it yourself. The software is sold at Best Buy for under $40. It will cost you $30 per VHS tape to have it converted by someone else. Did it last winter as a project and wound up with 42 DVD's.

Coaches can and will pull the offer up until the NLI is signed. Happens all the time. Petrino did it to a kid when he came back to Louisville. It was all over the news and this site. Unfortunately kids are nothing more than a piece of equipment for a coach and the NCAA only looks out for the coaches. They can leave whenever they want with no penelty. Athletes have to stay put or sit out. It's a Dirty business plain and simple. A player needs to select the school that's the best fit and not the staff. Very hard to do since most HS seniors don't have a clue what they want to study.

For early enrollees the athlete must sign a request for financial aid document. Then in February they sign the letter of intent. This is a way to get the players verbal commitment into a binding document. Not sure if I've ever heard of an early enrollee changing their commitment after the request for aid was signed. If they sign that they are usually pretty committed because classes and orientation begins shortly after Christmas break.

If the student athlete has signed anything at this point it should be a request for aid, which in turns reserves the funding for the athlete to still sign his LOI in February. I'm not sure if the Request for Academic Aid is as binding as the actual LOI?

A few years back there was a 4 team playoff then the KHSAA changed some rules. It has worked out in the past couple of years that the last game of the season between Ryle and their final opponent have resulted in a mythical championship game. Meaning if Ryle won they were the Champions due to an undefeated season. The KHSAA rules do not allow a freshman team to play before that schools varsity team plays or will the rules allow the freshman team to play beyond the varsity season. So it would be difficult to determine which varsity team will still be playing after the regular season. If a freshman team has a varsity squad that doesn't play on Week 0, then the freshman cannot play until the following week. If a varsity team plays on Week 0 and does not make the playoffs, then that Freshman team cannot play beyond the varsity schedule. The small school and large school division is still in effect only for scheduling purposes. A lot of the smaller schools including Dixie and Scott play a froshmore team. Freshman football should only be used as a developmental stage of a varsity team.Most varsity head coaches only care about development of players, wins vs losses are for the players, parents, fans and the Freshman Coaching Staff.

Typically you go for tie at home and go for the Win when you are the visitor.

Actually Dixie played Conner last night and fielded a Froshmore team of around 25 players. Mainly played as many freshmen available. This is still a development phase of these players allowing them to compete against similar competition. Conner won 36-6 with a running clock in 3rd Qtr. Conner has all freshmen with a few 8th graders

Strong words to isolate Boone County schools by name calling?? Administration decisions.

They didn't play Highlands or any other large school since that was their first year of Freshman football. They wound up beating Beechwood in the final game of the season which somehow became a championship game. There hasn't been a playoff system for Freshman for many years. Since KHSAA declared Freshman teams cannot play a game until that schools varsity team plays and then the freshman season cannot extend beyond that schools varsity season.

Ball was in the air around 40 yds. Ball tipped on the 30. #10 caught it on the 25. TD with 1.2 sec on the clock.

HS Coaches spend as much time as allowed by KHSAA. New athletes to the game and typically coaches change how a young football player is accustomed to playing. Youth Coaches usually don't teach technique or terminology. Whole different ball game. NCAA regulates the allowed time for practice and preparation. I'm sure if a College staff could spend as much time with the players as high school coaches they would certainly do it.
