A post in another thread caused me to wonder about this. The big school class has been (and likely will be) dominated by Trinity, St. Xavier and Male. Those three have almost become an excuse for N. Ky. big schools (6A, & before 6 classes - 4A) schools as to why we have so many state championship teams in N. Ky. history but no big school champions. My question is this.

 

How many N. Ky. big schools would have won championships if not for Trinity/St. X/Male?

No doubt Boone would have a few titles.

Agree with Boone. Outside of that, it's a tough call. Because most the others that made it to the finals were blown out by one of those teams mentioned. So if you remove them, would they have beat the team that would have made it had one of the big three not made it? In other words, because they lost so badly, would they have lost to the team that the big three beat to get there?

Tonight when I have time I will reasearch this and post some teams/years that might have won.

How many kids were going to school at Holy Cross this particular year? That almost certainly has to have been the best team in school history to have gotten to the state semifinals in 4A.

At first thought I came up with something similar to what you've posted. I'm thinking Ryle, SK and Dixie all fall under the 1-2 trophy area within the past 20 years.

 

Obviously Ryle is too young a school beyond that. SK was a door mat prior to the turn of the century. Dixie may have had some solid teams prior to 2000 but I'm too young to know about them.

Louisville. Covington didn't field a team until the late '90s, maybe around 2000.

Dixie was 3A 2000 and prior
