  1. I agree... To be successful, you must have a staff that works hard - and I didn't mean to imply otherwise. What I am saying is that, at some programs, that hard work produces more. Imagine a football program as a 4-wheel drive truck. Gotta have a great motor (coaching staff), but there are places that, all things being equal, the tires just get better traction.
  2. I forgot Beechwood... I don't know if there are any county schools I would add. Boyle is as close as you can get, I suppose - but there will still be fluctuations in talent. I would argue that Danville is similar - they have ebbs & flows. Even Sam Harp had a 4 win regular season, there. If a coach as top notch as Coach Harp can lose 7 games, then I wouldn't say it was a "cruise" control kind of job.
  3. Some of the discussions about job openings brought to mind something a few coaches have said to me, over the years: "There are really only about 10 good jobs in the state, the rest you have to MAKE good jobs." So, I ask BGP, what are the 10 jobs in the state that are "good" jobs - where even an average coach would be successful (W-L, NOT fan expectations)? My attempt, in no particular order. I kind of petered-out at 7: 1) Trinity 2) Bowling Green 3) St. X 4) Male 5) CovCath 6) Highlands 7) Belfry???
  4. Let's go to 1 class... And forget all this "participation trophy" crap - let's not have a playoff game, at all. The number one team can play against itself, Bugs Bunny-style. I am tired of all the whining from losers who want everyone to be in the playoffs. Just work harder.
  5. This is my favorite thread, every year... I love to hear all the different traditions that teams have for Thanksgiving practices.
  6. All blowouts... I guess we need to just let 4 teams in the playoffs.
  7. I am honestly not sure a Bye week is really a good thing for a team. Especially one that is on a roll. So, I am not sure that it is really much of a reward. At any rate, I think all the hand-wringing about the playoffs is overblown, anyway.
  8. I agree... The staff at Boyle obviously speaks for itself. Mercer has a quality staff. Coach B has a good group of young coaches who work their guts out and are quality men in the community, too. Coach Perry does a great job at Garrard. Although Lincoln has struggled, I think Coach Leffew works his tail off there, and gets a lot out of a tough situation.
  9. I think the record their entire schedule has only 19 wins, total, so far.
  10. I am honestly not sure that LexCath is any better, athletically, than Western Hills. I think LexCath is BETTER, but I don't think they are any more athletic.
  11. Russell & Fleming could legitimately not get out of the first round.
  12. Cue the Ty Scroggins quote: "We don't have a great 6A football team, but we don't play in 6A." lol
  13. All the "too many trophies" and "playoff quality" talk is about fans, not kids, IMO. Is 6 too much? Maybe. I think the 4 is too few, though. There would be too much discrepancy in size from the top to bottom of classes. You would still have blowouts. Of course the real elephant in the room is geographic balance... I think it is going to get harder and harder to maintain geographic balance in the state. Not sure how that affects classification one way or another, but it is a reality.
  14. I will have to see it to believe it. Boyle beat them by 35 points. I don't think Boyle is that much better than Central.
  15. Seems like, with the loss of population in EKY, it might be necessary to really change the way the KHSAA looks at classification. It seems it is going to get more and more difficult to have any semblance of geographic balance.
  16. Garrard was much better defensively in the 2nd half, but struggled defending the pass against Mercer's outside receivers. Mercer could not stop Garrard's jet play, or the counters.
  17. It may not be sexy, but it is tough to defend a team that just keeps running at you... Especially with Garrard's size.
  18. Chris Pardue is a first-rate football mind... Those people need to worry about something else.
  19. And the weather didn't aid Garrard's offense in scoring 34 points.
  20. The turf at Dyehouse held up well... Garrard has an away game next week - it will be fine.
  21. I don't think rain is the issue... Thunderstorms are expected which means a lot of games that are played on Friday may be cancelled, or greatly delayed, anyway.
  22. They still exist... But, to be clear, scrimmaging at camps was NEVER allowed by the rules, as long as scrimmages have been limited. Teams often used camps to try to get around the rules, but it was always shady. Thus, some of the punishments we have seen doled out over the last couple of years.
