  1. The difference, here, is the HC is already held accountable by media, fans, administration, etc. His accountability is public. I understand the idea that it could create sticky situations, and that officials have incredibly difficult jobs. That said, they are also incredibly insulated from accountability - and I don't think the lack of transparency makes them any better.
  2. These threads with their "kids these days" tone always make me laugh. Maybe it isn't that the kids are softer... Maybe more specialization leads to repetitive stress injuries. Maybe kids are bigger, faster, & stronger - creating more velocity and force at impact. Maybe, just maybe, Coaches have grown and learned what is necessary and what actually works, rather than going Bull-in-the-Ring for 30 minutes to "build toughness."
  3. I don't think there is a need to do a lot of full-speed, full-contact, tackling. There are plenty of ways to practice proper technique with well-designed drills.
  4. Maybe at a school that is two-platoon. With limited practice time, I would think it would be difficult to do it AND be any good at defense, at the same time.
  5. If Wing-T coaches would just put their QB in a shotgun, people would think it was the most revolutionary thing ever... You know how I know that? Because Gus Malzahn does it & people think he is a genius. If you want to run triple option and not be aggravated by fans who whine about "opening it up," just spread the guys out, and go from the gun... Just like Urban Meyer. Heck, if you want to resurrect the old single-wing from the 40s, and be called a prodigy, just line up in shotgun and spread guys out... Like Urban Meyer did with Tebow. Notice a pattern, here?
  6. I don't understand why more teams don't do this... Prevents all the whispers about scrimmaging, and still gets the major benefit of going away to camp - 4 days of football, with your kids working and bonding together. I think a program camp would be awesome. Take you MS & HS teams AND coaches. You could have drills & practice during the day and evening, then chalk-talk with the coaching staffs at night. Could be a really positive experience for everyone.
  7. For teams that have a lot of players going both ways, I wonder how effective this would be... You don't get a lot of sideline time with those kids.
  8. I would also say the 2nd loss to Harrodsburg in the Regional Championship game in 1995. A team that overacheived, and had beaten Beechwood in the opener in the Constitution Bowl.
  9. Garrard - probably the 1993 Regional Finals loss to Bardstown. Teams were both undefeated and came in ranked 1 & 2 in Class A. The 2011 Semi-final loss to Belfry was tough, but there was also probably the sense among fans that GC gave Belfry its best shot. The Bardstown game was really dominated by the Golden Lions, by what was maybe the best team ever fielded by Garrard County... There was a freak TD at the end of the 1st half on a "trick" play, GC fumbled once in Bardstown's territory in the 2nd half, a mishandled snap on a PAT, and a missed last-second field goal. 14-13 Bardstown.
  10. So, the reason that private schools win at a greater clip is because they have better parents?
  11. I am sure they will... How kind of them.
  12. Foley is a really good coach... Think he runs the spread, though? Seems like it would be a big departure for Adair.
  13. 1) Bring along some young players 2) Develop depth 3) Avoid injuries
  14. I think some of the arguments for a spring game are dubious, but I also think most of the arguments against it are hogwash. There are still more kids participating in spring football, only, than just about any sport, I would think. It might pick up numbers AND it would provide an competitive opportunity for schools that don't have the numbers for inter-squad games.
  15. I don't get this attitude... Why would someone automatically assume that a MS coach is not prepared to be an HS head coach? Would you have a problem if they hired a HS assistant? To me, a MS head coach at least has experience running a program - organizing practices, managing a staff, dealing with administration & parents, etc. Those are the benefits to hiring a MS head coach, rather than a HS assistant. What are the drawbacks? Unless you assume that a MS coach just doesn't know the game as well - which CAN be true, but certainly is not ALWAYS true.
  16. I think something that the arguments are missing is this: This coach applied the analytics to his own program before committing to the "no punt" rule. The numbers may be different for other teams/programs. For instance, if you regularly have punters who can boom the ball, or if you do not typically have a high-octane offense, the numbers might be different. Another aspect of this - how much practice time do you invest in punt team? Would it be better for your team to use that to rep offensive plays? So it is possible that everyone on this thread is right. lol
  17. I don't mind the Rawlings balls, as long as they aren't the yellow-looking ones, but I do think everyone using the same balls is a good idea.
  18. Not to be argumentative, but I have actually read the legislation being proposed.
  19. It is actually Anchors Aweigh. Lol When an anchor is "aweigh" it is clear of the sea-bottom, meaning the ship is prepared to move. Couldn't matter less, I just thought that it might be interesting.
  20. I think the legislation actually creates a concussion protocol similar to what the NFL & NCAA have... The officials are an extra layer on top of that, more as a safeguard in addition to the protocol.
  21. I think another societal impact on coaches moving so much is also that 6 years is a long time to stay anywhere now. Maybe something to do with the short attention span of fans, players, and even coaches. The guys that stay in one place for a long time are going to become less and less common, IMO.
  22. Okay, I am confused now... Is Coach Lucas interviewing with Montgomery County or is Dunbar interviewing a Coach named Montgomery?
  23. @WhySoNegative Some guys enjoy building a program.
  24. This is another example of where MS has hurt football, from a numbers standpoint. I would say that a head coach needs to try and develop quality coaching at the youth level & be visible to players/parents during games/practices, when possible.
