  1. Funny comment that this decision limits travel... The cross-bracketing they just did the last two years caused a lot of those travel issues. Just leave it alone or blow it up completely. Also, CalPreps is far superior to RPI, in my opinion.
  2. This is correct... Garrard is NOT open. Mods, please remove this thread.
  3. Belfry & Central... IIRC, there has only been one title game in the last 10 years that did NOT feature one of them (2017 Boyle vs. Corbin). Is that right?
  4. I don't have ANY inside info, but if I was Bourbon's admin - Justin Roe would have been offered the job as soon as Hodge resigned.
  5. Just give everyone June... NO SCHOOL ACTIVITIES, at all.
  6. There is an argument to be made that, in many cases, having a coach that long might not be a great thing.
  7. Cakewalk? They have to beat each other... And Garrard will be in that district. Garrard struggled and was only 4-8 last season, but they played a monster schedule. Rockcastle needed a dubious call on a last second catch to beat them last year. Bell will likely get rolling as Hilton works his program, but they didn't really beat any good teams, last season, either. Not saying Garrard wins that district year one, but I don't see any reason to think that Bell & Rock are in a position to assume Garrard will be an easy win in most years.
  8. Hey coach - what do you have on the upper part? Is that just indoor/outdoor carpet, kind of like the old "Astroturf?" Looks like the players are wearing cleats.
  9. They didn't have much to go along with him last year... Still did pretty well. They aren't going to beat the top teams, but if Robinson stays healthy, they can win 8 games.
  10. Speed & size are similar... I think Robinson has a more well-rounded skill-set than King. He is a really good receiver & runs well between the tackles.. Throws the ball well too.
  11. I would disagree, slightly. I think padded tackling reps, to the ground, are important in moderation. That said, with the head-out, gator, or Hawk tackling technique, you can actually rep full tackling without pads and get valuable reps.
  12. With petitions being made... Care to update your predictions? lol
  13. Now that petitions to play up have been submitted, any guesses on when we might see some alignments from KHSAA?
  14. I agree. Also, you can give EVERYONE a chance to run, catch, & touch the ball. How many kids do we lose early because they think they will always be pegged into a certain position? I really don't see a downside to playing flag longer.
  15. I have also heard coaches complain about having to teach their kids how to tackle, because of flag - but that is silly... Teaching kids how to tackle is OUR JOB. If you have a little league/MS program that is so good a teaching tackling that you never have to drill it at the HS level, I will pay a lot of money to get access to it!
  16. I guess I am missing the argument, here? What does it mean that programs had a hard time getting people "back" to football? Wouldn't more flag make it MORE likely parents allow their kids to play football?
  17. I think part of this is because of two issues: 1) Awareness is increasing & 2) More accurate diagnosis. Again, though, it seems more and more clear that damage is not just done by concussions, but by repeated hits. As a coach, TWO questions are important: 1) What amount of force is sufficient to create sub-concussive damage? 2) How can we change our teaching to protect from this as much as possible? As far as this question goes, I suspect tackling will be less of a problem than blocking.
  18. A new study shows that hits to the head, not concussions, cause CTE - The Washington Post BU-Led Study May Explain CTE without Concussions | Research Here is a link to the study, itself, for any medical researchers out there. lol: Concussion, microvascular injury, and early tauopathy in young athletes after impact head injury and an impact concussion mouse model | Brain | Oxford Academic
  19. Glazier is a great value... You can get passes for ANY clinic for unlimited staff members. That also gets you access to thousands of online resources (webinars, presentations, clinic talks, etc.)
  20. First of all, the latest study out shows that the concussion issue is a red herring & that sub-concussive hits are just as damaging. They also show evidence of CTE in TEENAGERS. There are some problems with the conclusions drawn in those studies, including the fact that there is no test for CTE for living people. Hard to draw concrete conclusions using only dead brains. That said, denying a connection, or that the connection is not particularly strong in football, is just plain denial. I played football. I coach football. I have a 6 year old son who, if he wants, will play football. I am not an anti-football nut. Nor am I soft. Those types of comments are wrongheaded and just further damage our game. Instead of attacking experts who are doing their jobs, maybe we should look at our game and figure out ways to prevent possible damage. For instance, I still believe we start tackle football WAY too soon. If you ask me, there is no reason kids need to be playing full-contact football before they are 12 years old. Also, there are still a lot of coaches doing too many contact drills & beating their kids up -- all in search of "toughness." These are just two changes that, I believe, would make the game safer for players at all levels.
  21. It would make more sense to switch out Garrard & Mercer, probably.
  22. To avoid the region of death: DeSales, CAL, & Central all in the opposite district.
  23. The retirement issue has to be something that coaches would consider. Is there a way for private schools to mitigate that loss? Mark Perry at LexCath could be a direction to go, although I don't know if that would be a big enough name to satisfy X fans. He is already outside of the KTRS.
