Where does your team do camp at?

Featured Replies

I think alot still go, but some probably choose to stay home due to cost!

Greenup County did their camp on their campus.

In recent years, Hopkinsville did their camp on campus. Also, many years ago, various teams in Western Kentucky would bave preseason camp at the 4H Camp in Dawson Springs.

Fern Creek used to go different places, KWC was last place we went.

But with the rule changes on practice last several years it stopped making sense and also colleges are reporting earlier and wanted us to come before we could be in full gear. With the practice rules in place now it limits two a days, if a two a day can't go full gear full contact either session. years ago two a days were a grind, now still hard and hot but a mix of less than full contact practices, film sesssions, weights, chalk talks, walk thrus, play installations, lot more finesse and instruction than smash mouth all day like decades ago

With limits on preseason scrimmages can teams still go to multi team camps like they used to at Jabez?

Limitations on scrimmages haven't really changed much in the last 20 years (with the exception of Week 0)... There was never supposed to be more than 2. Maybe the perception is that the KHSAA is enforcing it more stringently?

I have to say that, although some rules as far as time and things don't make sense, I think having shells once a day and full gear once a day is plenty. Also, the contact rules are common sense. With the current definitions, you can learn how to block and tackle just fine without killing each other.

I think if coaches are honest and introspective, most would look back on the way things used to be done and shake their heads at the ridiculous demands they used to make on teenagers' bodies.

Are there still multi-team team camps where teams go against each other in practice each day? I think at one times teams would practice together during the day and scrimmage at night at these camps.

Pendleton County appears to be holding camp on their baseball field behind the school. Conditions are rough as they haven't cut the grass in quite some time. :p

We do a 3 day camp at West Georgia. It's awesome. 15-20 show up and you get to five 40 minute scrimmages in shells plus a red zone challenge that's like college OT. You really find out your strengths and weaknesses there and what to work on. It's so much better than all of the 7v7 crap. We also do 2 one day camps where 3-5 teams will meet at a school and scrimmage each other. These usually include a one on one DB/WR challenge, board drills with the lineman, an inside/skelly period, then normal scrimmage.

Thats so much more useful than KY rules

They still exist... But, to be clear, scrimmaging at camps was NEVER allowed by the rules, as long as scrimmages have been limited. Teams often used camps to try to get around the rules, but it was always shady. Thus, some of the punishments we have seen doled out over the last couple of years.
