BluegrassPreps Class 3A Football Rankings (10/2) Discussion

Class 3A

Much like Class 2A, the next enrollment division up had very little drama among the Top 10 teams. The only game that really had any uncertainty in the Second Half was Casey County’s big District win over Bell County to all but lock up a home field playoff game. Outside of the Top 10 there was a bit more excitement, specifically in District 5. Fleming County needed a last-minute punt return to shock Russell and surprising 5-1 Bath County nipped West Carter by two points. This week things should get a bit more interesting. Top-ranked Belfry will get a stiff test from Cabell Midland in a clash of out of state teams who really know how to move the chains on the ground. A pair of big-time District clashes headline the action. Central and suddenly surging Waggener battle for Louisville bragging rights, meanwhile Lexington Catholic will try to slow down the WanDale Robinson show as Western Hills tries to make a statement.

1. Belfry at Cabell Midland (WV)

2. Corbin vs. Jackson County

3. Boyle County at Garrard County

4. Elizabethtown at Adair County

5. Central at Waggener (10/5)

6. Caldwell County at Trigg County

7. Lexington Catholic vs. #8 Western Hills

8. Western Hills at #7 Lexington Catholic

9. Casey County at McCreary Central

10. Larue County -- OPEN

So the loser of Lex Cath v Western Hills.....do they drop in the rankings?

Maybe, maybe not. With Casey playing McCreary and Larue off, we won't see anything from them Friday we don't already know. I'd say a close game changes nothing but a blowout might.

In my opinion if Lex Cath loses, Western Hills is legit and Lex Cath (even with the tough non-district schedule) is not the same Lex Cath we have come to expect.

Win or lose the Knights aren't the same team they have been in years past.

Waggener should be in there. Jairus Brents and Manny Harper just are flat difficult to contain. They are a bit of street ballers but they make highlight reel plays, and on any given night . . .

Doesn't Waggener have Rice, too? If so, the Wildcats have three players better than anybody LaRue or Casey can put on the field. And Waggener's strength of schedule waxes Casey and LaRue. Switch the skeds and the bottom of the rankings definitely change.

I can't get a handle on Waggener. They have 3 of the best players in the state, so they should be very good, but their play has been erratic. They got waxed by Boyle Co and LCA and also lost to 3-3 Eastern. They did hang with Danville in a close loss, but that is their best performance of the season and they don't have any quality wins.

In fairness, neither does Larue Co. They are undefeated through a pretty easy schedule, but considering where they came from they are flying high.

Casey's best win was against a fair Bell Co squad.

This week will clear up some of the muddy water. Waggener hosts Central and Larue travels to Elizabethtown. We won't really find out what Casey Co has until they go to Corbin Oct 20.

TBD...

In my opinion, Waggener's only flaw is depth. Those 3 guys are all really good, Brent is exceptional. They could be a tough out come playoff time.

If they don't beat Central on Thursday night they'll be going to Belfry in the second round.

well that can't be good

How bout the Casey at Corbin matchup on 10/20? Casey should be undefeated heading into that game. Any chance they win? Would it even be an upset?

It would be an upset, bigly

I agree, Casey's opponents so far have a combined 8 wins...and Bell County has 4 of them.
