Boyle County is starting to garner some buzz. The Rebels smoked a Top 3 ranked 4A team for the second consecutive week by making short work of Collins, and are a considerable favorite against 6A foe North Hardin. Corbin had an extra week to prepare for their neutral site clash with Mayfield, which is typically a back and forth war that does not appear to change for the and 2017 edition. Any time you can knock off Highlands is a nice win, as is the case for Lexington Catholic, as they look for an even bigger feather in their cap when they host DeSales. Belfry still has a couple marquee showdowns in their future, after putting a running clock on rival Pikeville, and the Pirates will gear down the next couple weeks in District play.

Depends on how bad they lose

 

Safe to say Danville and Mayfield are pretty comparable teams in terms of level of quality. We saw that Boyle went toe to toe with Danville... Corbin should at the very least be in the game down the stretch. If Mayfield lays the smack down it will be hard to ignore.

I think everyone expects that to happen..especially considering what LCA did to them last week.

 

The question then becomes "who could have done better" against the brutal schedule LexCath has played? I am not sure there is another 3A team below them currently who has been able to prove they would fare any better.

Hot take...Waggener will win their district (or finish in the top 2) and be a scary opponent for one of the top 10 teams in the playoffs. They are getting better and soon will be at a level where their decision-making won't cost them wins.

I think they can beat Central. They can't beat Belfry, Boyle or Corbin but they have upset potential and the best individual athlete I've seen in a while.

I did watch the replay of Lex Cath/Cov Cath earlier in the year. It has been a long time since I have seen a team as dominant as Cov Cath. I was surprised by the LCA score a little bit.

 

Lex Cath always seems to play their best football when they have to. Im certain they will be in the mix when the time comes.

Brents, Rice, and Harper are all three game changers and match-up nightmares regardless who they play.

 

Do I think they beat Belfry on a good night or even stay within 4 TD's... no. Belfry's depth and balance of talent would be too much for them over 4 Quarters.

 

With that said, Belfry is not immune to one of those brain-dead nights where they put the ball on the turf 5 or 6 times and blow a coverage or two. I would much rather either not face Waggener in Round 2 or not face them in Louisville if at all possible, especially if it is a playoff path of facing Waggener, Central, and Corbin in successive weeks.

They can't hang with Belfry in any form or fashion. But they could pull an upset on the way to Belfry.

Waggener's only problem I've seen is they have NO depth! They dress like 30 for the game and most of the starters go both ways.

 

Against Boyle and LCA they where in the game till the 2nd. half. IMO they can beat Central if the starters can get just a little more rest with some help off the bench.

 

I know one thing for sure. That's a team I do not want to see in the playoffs.

I will have to see it to believe it. Boyle beat them by 35 points. I don't think Boyle is that much better than Central.
