I’ve heard it over and over again. #1 seed vs. #4 seed is demoralizing for the #4 seed. It’s unfair. It’s going to be a blow out. Most of these games are blowouts or not even close, and the JV gets to play over half the game.

Why not just get rid of it then? There is a such thing as a first round bye. The #1 seed obviously did something right to get the top spot in their district, reward them for it. This would eliminate the 2-8, 1-9, 0-10 teams from small districts just getting a playoff game that everyone knows the winner of before it’s played. Makes district play slightly more competitive, and makes taking the top spot even more appealing than just a easy first round match up. Didn’t make the top 3? Sorry. It’s football, not always fair. Just like life. Hit the weigh room, study film, work your butt off in spring ball and over the summer, and better luck next year.

Will there still be blowouts? Of course!? There are blowouts all throughout the playoffs, even in the state championship games, it’s never just not going to be a thing. There’s no drastic change needed for this either. District play remains the same, playoff rounds remain the same. Just eliminate the #1v #4 game in the first round and #1 gets a bye.

I agree. And with that sentiment, Owensboro would have been sitting at home rather than going to Bowling Green. They flat out did not get the job done for what ever reason. You are right, don't want to be home next year? Study your opponent, hit the weights, run the sprints, don't get stupid penalties, hang on to the ball, do your job. Do all that, you might play an extra game or get a first round bye. Time you figured out that you don't always get a trophy contrary to popular belief.

I am honestly not sure a Bye week is really a good thing for a team. Especially one that is on a roll. So, I am not sure that it is really much of a reward.

 

At any rate, I think all the hand-wringing about the playoffs is overblown, anyway.
