Don't forget the Eagles played Dallas and Miami 2 of the 3 weeks prior to yesterday's game. That's 6 potential playoff teams in 8 weeks.

It’s not curious at all. if the hold occurs at the point of attack it’s often the block that creates the big hole leading to the TD. Or it’s the block that gives the QB that extra second to hit a receiver as he comes open. Holds rarely get called if the defender beats the block and makes the tackle for a loss or for no gain. I don’t believe the statement that holds happen on every play, in my 40+ years of being around football, and thousands of hours of film study, the majority of holding calls I’ve reviewed have been correct, even if I initially in the moment thought they weren’t. And I’ve seen more plays where a hold hasn’t happened than I can count. The excuse that refs are trying to influence the outcome of a game by picking and choosing when to call a hold isn’t true. Quite frankly, it’s just an excuse for getting beat.

How long ago was that? I’ve been involved with HS football as a player and coach since 1984 and holding has always been 10 yards.

This is a great way to look at it. I’d much rather see too many teams get into the post season than not enough. And through it all, high school sports are just a bunch of kids playing games. Yes, there are lessons to be learned. But sometimes adults lose sight of the fact that the goal of high school sports is to encourage participation, to have fun and to be part of something. The complaints of watered down playoffs, rewarding those who didn’t “earn it”, too many classes, etc aren’t really in the true spirit of high school sports.

Academically, Scott isn't awful, and has some very good programs, and top flight students that get into very good schools.

Scott has made 3 region finals since 2015. Take away this year and the COVID year, I'd say this has been the best 10-year run Scott has ever had. Granted, they've played in a weak district and were only serious contenders to make a state final once (The year they lost to Johnson Central on the last play of the game). Their middle school numbers have been very good (nearly 60) the last two years and have a pretty good 8th grade group coming up. The big issue is their new district. No matter how much talent they have, it's going to be tough to even finish 2nd or 3rd. While it wasn't all that long ago that Scott was beating Dixie, Dixie seems to be on the rise. I think they've only beaten Cooper once or twice, they've only beaten Connor once (although there have been some competitive games) and they've never beaten Highlands. Playing for 4th every year is going to make deep playoff runs tough.

Kentucky isn't exactly an outlier with 6 classes. Delaware now has 3 classes with only about 60 schools that play football. The problem isn't the size of the state or the number of schools, it's the wide disparity of enrollments that creates issues in parity. And by shrinking the number of classes, you're putting smaller schools in a position where they are playing much larger schools. Going to fewer classes doesn't fix any of the issues people complain about, notably blowouts. Sure, some small schools will be able to compete, but there are more that won't be able to, ultimately creating more problems. I agree that the playoff system needs some repair. Not everybody needs to get in (and this just isn't in football). I think the district system is one of the problems. Make the districts larger, and take the top 2 from each district and use some formula (RPI, Calpreps, whatever) to select the rest. Limit the playoffs to 16 teams from each class. I know this might create some travel issues during the regular season, but it would trim the bloat from the current season. There will still be blowouts, but it should make things more competitive and make more of the regular season meaningful.

In a perfect world and in theory, every game would be important and mean something. The reality is, circumstances and environment can dictate attitude. It's like the chicken and the egg..which came first....the bad attitude or did the hopeless situation play a part in creating the attitude? Personally, I'd probably play (although I've never been in that situation before). But I certainly understand why they wouldn't want to.

I would guess (and it's just a guess) that the team and parents were at least consulted prior to this decision being made. While I certainly don't mind a team with no wins making the playoffs, I'm not sure how many are really excited to play one last game against a number 1 seed. There's no chance of winning or even keeping it close, and for those who feel there are life lessons to be learned in sports, when your 0-10, I'm not sure that one more lesson is all that important. I'm not even sure the seniors would be all that excited to strap the helmet on one last time.

Playing in a weak district hasn't hurt them in the last decade or so....I'm sure they will be just fine. When was the last time Beechwood had a district opponent stay within 4 scores in a game?

What a clown. His reason for quitting makes no sense. He says he realizes he wants to spend more time with his partner, yet quitting isn't going to get him home any earlier. Doesn't he have to stay at the ponderosa until the show wraps?

Freshman football is about development, reps, etc. Is there really a problem with getting your freshman guys another week of practice and another game?

That's one of several strange moves from last night. Still can't believe the Phillies didn't bunt Stott with runners on 1st and 2nd and nobody out in the 7th. He hasn't hit a ball hard in over a week, Realmuto and Casty were on deck and he ended up hitting into a double play. And the real problem the Phillies have is their closer. Kimbrel has not been good over the last 4-6 weeks, and just loses the strike zone at some point in every outing. Last night, he walked the leadoff guy who ended up scoring the winning run. If the Phillies get back to raking and having big leads all is good. But in playoff baseball, you can't expect to crush multiple HR's every game. I know they've been riding him all year, but I have zero confidence in him right now.

This would be considered a scrimmage and isn't allowable in the KHSAA calendar. Besides, even with a less competitive schedule, teams are still banged up and it's more important to be healthy going into the post season, and scheduling something like this would be like adding an 11th game. Would the benefits really outweigh the potential risks? There's a reason why NFL teams only do this in the pre-season, and significantly scale back contact during the season. I really don't believe one practice in October, even if it is held jointly with a quality team is going to be a difference maker come playoff time. In fact one can argue the experience your backups get during running clock games can help you develop the depth you need in the playoffs. While I believe a competitive schedule can be and is important, I also think that people overestimate its importance. There are tons of examples of teams who were able to win state titles while playing mostly running clock games during the regular season. While this is a novel idea, I believe it's overthinking things and just isn't worth the risk involved.

The Phillies are just mashing the baseball right now. Hard to believe just about all of the HR's they've hit have been solo shots. It's been many years since I've been to a home Phillies game, and haven't been to a playoff game since the 90's, but I can vouch for how loud that place can get. My only concern right now is Turner's shaky defense and how Alvardo and Kimbrel can just suddenly lose the plate at times.

I understand this, but really, not enough teams are attempting long field goals often enough that changing this NFHS rule would make KY high school football better or more entertaining to watch.

I hit on baseball too. Had Harper to hit a HR, and a 5 way parlay, Turner & Castellanos to have a hit, Gallen to have less than 5.5 K's, Phillies over 3.5 runs, D-backs to have less 3.5 runs or less. I missed TWO parlays when Prescott overthrew Pollard in the end zone at the end of the game. I needed Pollard to score a TD in one, and Prescott to have over 1.5 TDS in the other. They were both bonus bets, one $50 and 1 $10 dollar and would have paid over $600. I'm placing a few small bets tonight on Hockey and MLB, but then taking off until Sunday.

As a lifelong Phillies fan, this has been one of my favorite teams to watch. This series came down to pitching. The Phillies won this series without their ace winning a game, and two of the 3 games won were bullpen games. Their bullpen is deep, and loaded with power arms, and they shut the Braves big bats down. Riley was really the only guy who hit well for the Braves in this series. Really, outside of game 3, the Braves didn't pitch all that bad....the Braves offense just didn't show up. They scored 8 runs in 5 games, and only 3 total runs in the 3 losses.

4-1 in both my leagues, the top scorer in one league and #3 in the other. Should be 5-0 in one league but the week Chubb got hurt I ended up losing by 2 points. Going to be a struggle in that league because the only #1 back I have is Walker. In the league where I'm the top scorer I'm going to be playing guessing games with starters. At RB I have Walker, Jacobs, Pacheco and Cook. At WR, I have Nakua, Kupp, Godwin, Kirk and Gabe Davis. Byes will help, but I have to sit 3 of those guys every week.

Fortunately, Goff is having a pretty big day in my lineup. Only going to lose a few points so I didn't take too big of a hit. It's going to hard to keep Fields on the bench going forward based on the last couple weeks.

I finally received my payout from BetMGM yesterday evening, 5 days after requesting it. The agent I chatted with yesterday finally "escalated" my problem, and apparently, while there is still an issue, they had it "manually" processed. I'm just sticking with FD/DK and occasionally Caesars when they I get good offers. This will be a bet-free weekend since I'm in Florida and it's still not legal.

I had to play Gibson in one of my leagues because of byes. 10+ pts from him is like a bonus.

So three days later, BetMGM STILL hasn’t processed my withdrawal request. I’ve requested all the money that was in the account. They are still saying there is a tech issue and I’ve been added to the “list”, but I’ve gotten no updates or information or even an ETA of when this might get solved. Every other book has paid out in less than 24 hours. And their chat/customer service is no help.
