From East Carter’s sports administration:

Late last night after the game our athletic administration received an email informing us that our next opponent has withdrawn from the playoffs. At this time we will have a bye week next week for the first round of the playoffs that could possibly change and if it does I will relay that information immediately.

Interesting I won’t be surprised if we see more of this. 

I said in a thread this summer that Pendleton County should withdraw from district play and got some heat for it.  

So they're 0-10 and they made the playoffs. That's a thing here in Kentucky, huh?

Just like a basketball team that goes winless and gets to play in the district tournament, or soccer teams that are winless.

Where have you been since forever? 

On the 3A bracket on the KHSAA web site they have not advanced East Carter out to the next round yet that's interesting.

It wasn't always that way. Not until they expanded from 4 to 6 classes.

In 1991, the first season of four teams from each district qualifying (and still four classes), Greenup County finished 0-10 and made the playoffs.

An 8 team district next to a 4 team one is an abomination.  At least the KHSAA has mostly figured out how not to have that happen, yeesh.

It was a thing in the 4 class system also. There were also teams that finished 0-10 that won in the first round.

Bullitt Central was 4-6 when they knocked off Daviess County in the first round in 1993.

Interesting this morning the KHSAA did not even list the East Carter playoff game on the scoreboard, on the brackets it had them with a blank on the bottom. The bracket is still the same but the game is now listed on the scoreboard with all of the other playoff games but is East Carter vs. TBA (which I guess means to be announced) very strange.

Totally different because all teams in those sports qualify.  0-10 teams haven't earned a playoff spot.

Easy solution: Top 3 in each district make the playoffs... #1 seed gets a bye.
