I think he did two stints at Rowan. His last time at Rowan he was there 2 years...2-8 in 2014, and 5-6 in 2015. He came back to Harrison in 2018 or 19. Almost 40 years of coaching, and 31 or so spent at Harrison. He's on the all time wins list on the KHSAA site. The numbers below don't include the 23 season.

The revolving door that Scott has experienced at the principle level since Dr Sapp left a few years ago has been a problem. Lack of support from the AD has not and isn't the reason Coach Turner or Coach Owens left.

Agreed. The timelines that keep getting thrown out regarding these coaching searches are silly. Obviously you don't want these things to drag deep into the spring, but you make the hired based on when you find the right guys. Having assistant coaches run off season workouts is a far better option than hiring the wrong guy just because you have some deadline that you'd like to meet. No one had any clue what Fisk was doing behind the scenes to fill the position and to think he wasn't doing anything just because there wasn't someone hired by the first of the year is silly.

I know this might upset people but what is the fine line between maximizing profits and "corporate greed"? Basic economics dictate charging a price that maximizes profits. If a business can't make a substantial profit in an industry, then that business will cease to exist in a truly competitive marketplace. The move from cable to streaming is being made because it takes the cable and satellite providers out of the mix and therefore provides better margins. Not to mention reduces time and money spent negotiating with the providers. Businesses must continue to innovate and fight to increase revenues while decreasing costs. Businesses have a responsibility to their stake/shareholders and finding a way to maximize profits allows them to not only take care of them but invest in new technologies, programming and ultimately provide a better experience to their consumers.

I also don't understand how "balancing" the free or reduced lunch kids between all four schools helps the problem. If anything it makes it worse for all kids, but especially for the lower income kids. Transportation becomes a bigger issue as kids are now not going to the school that's closest to them, which would ultimately reduce opportunities (and not just in athletics) for all kids. How would that "fix" the issue?

Again, as has been pointed out, having students on reduced lunch is not a death sentence for athletics. And if it were, how would re-districting fix it? If the lower income kids were the problem, shifting them to other schools and bringing higher income kids in wouldn't fix the issue because it would create other problems, notably transportation. Labeling these kids as a problem because of their family's income isn't helping anyone, and as I mentioned earlier, is creating the belief that Boone is a horrible place to be.

The appropriate timeline to hire is when you find the right guy. It's better to make a late hire, than to just hire anyone because you have some imaginary deadline you'd like to meet. If you're not getting quality applicants then you need to do some work. But the person is far more important than meeting a deadline.

Forget NKY, look a things statewide. There are absolutely schools in a tougher spot than Boone in terms of economics that have plenty of success. A family of four can have a household income of over $55k and qualify for reduced lunch...so having a large number of free and reduced lunch isn't necessarily a bad reflection on a school. I think some of the issues Boone is having holding on to their students is a direct result of conversations just like this, that are based as much on opinion and conjecture rather than facts.

It's interesting to me how Boone County is labeled "inner city" here in NKY. What exactly constitutes an inner-city school? I know my perspective is a little different since I've lived in a big city (Philadelphia) and spent many days working in another big city (New York). But in my mind, Boone is nowhere close to an inner city school and enjoys many advantages that a true inner city school doesn't have.

Woodland does seem to be on the upswing after experiencing a few down years after winning three championships from 2013-2017 in the large school division before Coach Black took over in 2022. Moving down to the medium school division this year was a big help and probably where they should have been based on enrollment. I'm not sure that he really wants the high school job though. On an interesting note about the program, in that first championship season, Woodland beat Covington Catholic with AJ Mayer's group twice.

I hear what you're saying. But the HC sets the culture. The assistants should be part of the culture, not the ones setting it. Obviously, if the assistants aren't doing their part, they need to move on. And it's up to the HC to either get the assistants on board or to get guys in there that are. Personally, I believe the current assistants CAN be effective, and aren't necessarily the reason Scott has struggled recently.

I like Brady, and do believe he was maybe the best. But at 70/30, I still think you're selling Belichick short. He for the most part assembled the talent (including Brady). Most of his star assistant coaches never became good head coaches (Wise, Mcdaniels, Crennel, Judge, Patricia, Mangini, etc). While Brady won without Bill, and Bill floundered after Brady left, the two were really perfect together, and I don't think Brady would have won 6 championships without Belichick. If it was all about QB's guys like Marino and Kelly would have won a Super Bowl.

That looks about right....looks like NKY is getting nothing. @nWoMost of the sources I've looked at are showing nothing coming for NKY from this system. Do you agree?

I don't know how much manipulation is going on. Everybody uses the same models, it's just how it's interpreted, but even then most forecasters numbers are similar. And like @TheDeuce said, things change so rapidly, that it's tough to know for sure almost right up until a day or so before. The problem is cities, towns and people need more time to prep for a big winter storm than 12 hours. Which is why we see and hear about the "possibility" up to a week in advance. And really, most of the forecasters I see and hear try to remain conservative and really don't start talking numbers until 48-72 hours out. Regardless in most things I do, I also plan for the worst case scenario and if it doesn't happen, I'm golden. I don't have a problem if the weather forecasters take the same approach.

To go further, it's better to be wrong on the side of caution. Better to predict too much and have everyone prepared than to predict to little or none at all and get blasted. Prepare for the worst, and hope for the best. I'm just disappointed that for whatever reason, there seems to be an anti-snow dome that's been hanging out over NKY for the last decade or so. Snow happens all around us, but we just don't see anything.

I can say this about the Scott assistants. A few of them have been there a long time, and eat, breathe and sleep Scott football. The guys that are newer, are also very dedicated to the program. It's not a bunch of knuckleheads that know nothing about football or are just going through the motions to collect some spare change and gear to wear. And all of them probably could have left for greener pastures if they didn't want to be there. A couple actually did, and came back after Turner left (take that for what you will). I'd also say if Bill Belichick got the Scott job tomorrow, he'd end up keeping more than a few of those guys. If you're putting a staff together it's not a bad thing to have guys who know football, are connected to the community and are already dedicated to the program, especially when coaches are really hard to come by. That being said, I would expect the new HC would have a couple guys of his own to bring aboard.

That's simply not true. Turner had 4 years to bring new guys in. I get year one because he wasn't hired until May. After that, anyone who was there was there because he allowed them to be there. If the coaching staff was why he left (which I don't think is the reason by the way), that's on him.

The way things have been the last few years, I'd be surprised if we have any snow at all.

I don't think this list is even close to being correct. I know some of these names were mentioned in the last search when Owens was hired, but I'd say of this list, there might only be 2 or 3 that have actually applied. This is just my opinion though, as I have no clue who has applied. I'd be shocked if Woolley, Marksberry, or Rash were applicants. I can't imagine any reason why any of those guys would consider taking the job.

My question about firing everyone is more rhetorical. I don't for a minute believe that they are firing anyone who violates all the doctrines. I'd guess there are more than a few employees that don't even attend church outside of the church related events that happen during the school day. It would also mean all the single parents, other divorcees, those who don't regularly take communion, non married couples who live together are just a few groups that would also have to be let go. If he was fired because football's success was stepping on the toes of Basketball and Soccer, well that's pretty weak. The "Forces" that want to see a sport fail just because it's doing better than their chosen sport need to mind their own business and stay out of things that don't concern them. If this is true, good luck finding another coach.
