Birds are really rolling right now. I do not anticipate this one being any different than the last few weeks.

I hope to see the Birds continue to play crisp and stay healthy to prepare for a long playoff run.

I was.  Birds won 34-8. Highlands looked dominant. Griffin Benke, Carter Manning, Tayden Lorenzen, Chase Jacob, and Gabe Williams all stood out. This is a really solid freshman team.

Yeah.....at the coin toss lol.

Need a place to listen to the game this Thursday night? I will be calling the game on bluebirdsradio.com . Stream starts at 6:50.

CLICK THE PLAY BUTTON NEXT TO THE SONG ALBUM TO PLAY.  There will be a direct arrow to the button this week, after receiving feedback from the last stream.

Can someone from Scott PLEASE submit your vote that you think you will beat the Birds?  Last week there was NO LOVE for Conner vs the Birds, it was a 36-0 vote total for that game.  I realize the chances of Scott winning are the same for me winning the $2 billion Powerball last week, but I am having some sympathy for these guys in front of the Highlands steamroller.

I am holding out my vote to potentially cast at the 11th hour if someone else doesn't do it.

Sympathetic Birds fan,

Frank

Well, we have a person going out on a limb and voting for Scott, or was it Frank....since the poll was made to be private..... I guess you will never know.

Hmmmmmm

Sorta curious, thinking about the fact that the Birds really haven't been challenged since the Cooper game....you might even debate if that was a challenge (at least offensively it wasn't).

Would Bob ever think of calling up his former player, the coach over in Park Hills and say hey you want to have a combined practice.  That way the Birds don't continue to just beat up each other.  Looks like Cov Cath hasn't really had a good game since the Beechwood one.

I just thought about this with Scott on Thursday then a BYE week for the Birds then probably another running clock 1st round playoff game before we see some sort of competition.

It just crossed my mind like when the Packers came to town and had a combined practice with the Bengals during Pre Season.....

Again, would High Schools do this in mid season???  Would you favor this idea???

Or is this just crazy thought.....

This would be considered a scrimmage and isn't allowable in the KHSAA calendar. Besides, even with a less competitive schedule, teams are still banged up and it's more important to be healthy going into the post season, and scheduling something like this would be like adding an 11th game. Would the benefits really outweigh the potential risks? There's a reason why NFL teams only do this in the pre-season, and significantly scale back contact during the season. I really don't believe one practice in October, even if it is held jointly with a quality team is going to be a difference maker come playoff time. In fact one can argue the experience your backups get during running clock games can help you develop the depth you need in the playoffs.

While I believe a competitive schedule can be and is important, I also think that people overestimate its importance. There are tons of examples of teams who were able to win state titles while playing mostly running clock games during the regular season. While this is a novel idea, I believe it's overthinking things and just isn't worth the risk involved.

While they might be beating up on each other, they're getting the 2's Varsity ready for another strong run next season. Rinse and Repeat. I think the Highlands Freshman team benefits more than anybody. All of them practice alongside the Varsity on a day to day basis and get the same Varsity Coaching and some Reps as the older kids do. Great system. Gets them ready to compete.

Any Bird’s fans at the freshman game tonight?  Would love to see a feed on it!

Roman Combs is a player on the Cooper side, though.
