The Courier's LIT ratings do get more accurate as the season progresses. They are just a statistical look at the in-state games that have been played. No "tweaking" for injured/returning players, home field, type of surface, etc. By year's end the top teams in Kentucky are pretty accurately reflected in these ratings.

The bold is an understatement if I have ever seen one!!! Franklin County is playing well, but I am not sure they are ready for the likes of John Hardin just yet!

Good local rivalries are great for everyone. To have a good rivalry each team needs to win, or a least make a game of it, on a regular basis. Frankfort High has done that, and more!! Games like this keeps all the athletes working hard in the off-season. Always want to be ready for the cross town rival.

Frankfort has athletes in a few positions to compete with Franklin County, just not enough of them. Franklin County pretty much decides what the final score will be.

Franklin County 35 Nelson Co 13 Franklin Co has plenty of weapons on offense. Defense also looked pretty solid at the first scrimmage.

Franklin County did look pretty good on both sides of the ball. Harrison Co had pretty good size at several positions, but the timing in their passing game just was not there last night. Going to be interesting to see how the Coach at Franklin County uses the 2 Quarterbacks. Both did look good and I know they both want to play.

My bad....it was Woodside that made the move. Was he a running back/linebacker and backup QB?

I hear the QB from Anderson County transferred to Franklin County. Will probably walk right in at the starting position. This could very possibly put Franklin County in the top 10. Very young team returning from last year.

No way........many school systems with more than one high school have enrollment boundaries. There may not be rigid enforcement, but there are boundaries as opposed to them being an Open Enrollment district.

Is this the Mendenhall that is an assistant at Lex Catholic? He's a great motivator and players work hard for him. Can't imagine him leaving the nest of Lex Catholic though.

I was primarily asking about basketball, but it would apply to all sports. Are individual awards, be they pure statistical or more subjective, given at your banquet? Or is the feeling that recognizing individuals is a distraction to team play so they are not done?

I'm curious as to how player recognition/awards, if any, are given at your athletic banquet. I've been to banquets where lots of individual awards are given, some based on stats alone (i.e. free throw %, rebounds, etc) and others more subjective in nature (i.e. Outstanding Player, Most Improved, Mr Hustle, etc). Sometimes the coaches do all the selections, and at some the players vote for several of the awards. I've also seen the approach of no individual awards presented. The concept is that it is a team game and individual recognition just distracts from the team. These two approaches are miles apart and I would like to know which of these approaches is more prevelant. Do individual awards at the local banquet serve as a motivational tool, or do they serve as a hinderance to building team play? I'd especially like some of you veteran coaches to weigh-in with your thoughts.
