  1. Sounds like some serious jumping to conclusions here. The softball issue/and various threads relating to it comes entirely from one family's point of view and has no connection to whatever happened with the football issue. As for the football event, there are two separate questions - "What happened that caused the coach to call in the Sheriff?" and "What happened once the cops showed up to cause them to taz the kid?" The sheriff would have nothing to do with the coaches interactions with the team prior to them arriving, just as the coach would have no control over the young man being tazzed. I am sure the administration there is appalled that things escalated to this level. Lot's of speculation without any facts.
  2. 33rd district. The last year they had a varsity team, Sidney Moss played for them as a 7th grader.
  3. Lizzy Brannen graduated, too, but agree that NDA will be the team to beat. They have the coach, the star, a talented supporting cast, and good showings in post season play these past couple of years. IF Smith is able/willing to play then NDA will be very strong, indeed. NCC also strong team who does well post-season; what does new coach mean for them? Very high expectations for Conner, but you can't count out Ryle and Boone even after each have lost a D1 girl plus other key players. Highlands is on the up-swing, but they are still young and I just don't see them finishing on top this year. Plenty of talented individuals in NKY, let's see who will make the most of it!
  4. Another story on Rebecca. Nice way to represent Kentucky HS girls ! Hope to get to see this young lady play this year. Rebecca Greenwell sparks Tennesse Flight to Nike Nationals girls basketball title - MaxWire National Blog - MaxPreps
  5. There have been at least 5 players to leave Ryle softball and/or basketball since Moss. Yet both programs continue to be successful under the one coach. So, is "school hopping" a growing trend in general? Kids/parents don't like the situation so move to a different school? I can see it in travel ball or AAU, but doing so for school athletics seems to place the value of sports above everything else. (That topic and the Smith issue could use it's own thread....) As for "Ryle 2012/2013" - seems to be a re-building year for the Lady Raiders. Only 2 returning starters: Johnson, who can be very impressive, and Oliverio. Both are strong, multi-year starters, but after that, the experience level really drops. There are some nice guards that will get a chance to step it up, but with Crittendon, Dixon, and now Smith gone, Ryle will have no returning inside game, and it was never a strength of the Raiders. They may have to look at incoming freshmen to fill some post positions, as the girls from Gray MS will bring some height. Also, the Ryle girls JV and Frosh coaching jobs were recently posted.
  6. Now that's a long distance relationship! I thought that the opening had it's high points and some great effects, but after China, it seemed kind of messy and chaotic. Some of the concepts just seemed odd. And has the opening ceremony always been so centered on the traditions and pop culture of the host country?
  7. Shining Stars (Pittman) took some of the most talented NKy girls from the Class of 2014 to Orlando this past week and they're bringing home some hardware! The Stars Blue team won the AAU Division II Championship, while the Black team took 5th place after falling to the Blue team in the Elite 8. Additionally, this talented group of ladies earlier took the Championship of the Silver Showcase and the final four of the Bronze Showcase, all at ESPN Wide World of Sports. In May the same girls won the Ky AAU Division I 1st and 2nd place awards at KBA. The combined roster is a "who's who" of upcoming Junior talent from Northern Ky, (from NCC, NDA, SK, Cooper, Gallatin, etc. - EVEN Brossart! :thumb:), plus 2 players from Ohio. Congratulations, ladies! Shining Star Sports (Pittman) Indoor 2011/2012 Roster
  8. Ah, sorry RCC, that makes more sense! The part of the game I saw for Highlands was not pretty - then I must have flip-flopped the score. MY BAD (IN) ! :idunno:
  9. Highlands looked lost without Shafer, they lost by quite a few to Badin. Prayers for her recovery - just hate to see any of them get hurt! Agree Gallatin looked good, beat Oak Hills easily while Connor pulled out OT against McNick. Ryle won at the buzzer over Mercy, then lost by about 15 when Glen Este hit maybe 8 treys, while Ryle had about that many freshman rotating in. More games tomorrow.
  10. Thomas More team camp this week. NKY teams such as Highlands, Conner, Ryle, Gallitin Co, Campbell Co, and more, take on Cincinnati teams. Games start 4p to 9p at TMC, Lloyd HS and St Henry HS.
  11. Ali Crupper pitches the shut out and drives in the only run. Ryle blanks Christian in state opener
  12. This should work: http://www.playkba.com/asapages/schedules.aspx Just go to the appropriate date, click on the pool/level/team you are interested in.
  13. Katelyn Stephens is sophomore outfielder, 1st year as starter. Nice bat. Nice tournament, but knocking in the winning run with 2 strikes, 2 outs, bottom of the final inning of the regional championship game certainly helped get her the MVP. And good for her! I thought the other 3 picks from Ryle were well deserved, but I would not have been surprised for Smith to be there in place of one of the others. It's subjective. Re: coach of the year - maybe the whole point is that Ryle had a rocky year, lost a couple of excellent players and STILL pulled out the 9th region crown. I am guessing good coaching had something to do with that? As far as POY, can't argue, doesn't seem right.
  14. #41, Sidney Langsdale. I think those last 4 hits all occurred with 2 strike count; just one strike from going home for the season. Instead they go to STATE! Some cool headed players for Ryle . . . Congratulations, Ryle! Guess we'll see these two teams again next year in the ANNUAL Ryle/Conner Championship.
  15. Cooper is a nice program just waiting to happen. Good luck to Shannon!
  16. I believe this year's 9th region championship match up is the 8th consecutive year for - not only Boone County schools - but of Ryle vs Connor! You have to go back to 2004 to get a non-BC school, which was when Dixie won over Boone. I believe that was Patti O's last year as softball coach at Boone after having the Rebels in the finals for several years before she switched to Ryle.
  17. Well deserved award! We in Northern Ky have been fortunate to get to see her play. Congratulations!
  18. This is not quite true. KBA puts on something that they call "middle school state championship", but it is in name only. MS girls "state championship" is in November over several week-ends ending with Thanksgiving w/e, which is prior to the start of some MS seasons! Ridiculous! The boys MS tournaments at KBA often conflict with the sanctioned district/regional MS championships, so participation is spotty and absolutely anyone can participate if they pay their $. Beyond all that, this year's 8th grade MS "championship" at KBA was a mess due to absence of over-sight/rule enforcement at KBA. Not to take a thing from Holmes victory there, but the event at KBA can hardly be considered a true "state championship". Just saying. These new regulations seem good, although I agree that our lawmakers have better things to do. . .
  19. 10th grader Katelyn Stephens with the winning RBI, plus a 2 or 3 other RBIs for the game. Nice job!
  20. Dislike Girls HS basketball needs top notch coaching talent like Ron. I am sorry to hear this!
  21. Isn't Pike the same team that made news for the crazy loop-sided game early in the year, like 100 to 2 ? Nice. Why should Dorton and not Holmes been the State Champs? Did Dorton play and beat the bulldogs?
  22. Brianna Adler, nice young player, getting quite a few minutes with Highlands this year, been in almost every game; but then Lady Bluebirds have three 9th graders and 2 other 8th graders dressing varsity as well. Expect Adler to be a stand-out on this young team in coming years.
  23. I think this is a very unlucky draw for NCC as winners of their district. It will be a good game (Boone only won by 3 in their match up earlier this year), but Boone should not have trouble with NCC. Really like Kiernan's play, but Moss put up 20+ points and nearly 20 RB's in their last meeting. NCC has lost 10 games this year, while Boone's 3 losses were to highly ranked teams. Perhaps Coach Dawn will pull some good tricks out of his hat, but I see Boone as having a relatively easy path to the finals - especially considering they are a lower seed.
  24. 8th grade action - BOYS - Covington Holmes defeated an excellant Ockerman team last night to advance to the Championship game. Bulldogs on a roll after winning the "middle school state tournament" at KBA this past week-end. Connor defeated Twenhofel and will play Holmes in the NKMSAA final Saturday at 4:15. GIRLS - Gray girls closed a 12 point deficit to beat Campbell County by 4. No losses for Gators this year in the regular season or post tournament play. Defending regional champions Conner defeated a very good Woodland team. Conner will try to avenge an earlier loss to Gray in the 8th grade girls Championship @ 3:00 Saturday.
  25. All tournament team - Page Ross (Cooper), Castleberry (Conner) Zuri Hill & Sidney Moss (Boone County), Olivero and Dawn Johnson (Ryle) MVP = Jenna Crittendon
