  1. So, it is possible that Conner could end up 3-0, while the rest are tied at 1-2 (If Boone beats Ryle and Conner beats Boone). How would the 33rd district pairings work out then?
  2. Fridays games apparently cancelled due to weather - any word regarding re-scheduling?
  3. Predicting the outcome of the 9th Region just keeps getting tougher. . . Congratulations to the Lady Indians.
  4. What ? Sour grapes on BGP ? Or questioning what coaches do or don't do? On a sports thread? That is crazy talk. Almost as unheard of as fans being defensive.... Seriously, I am sure any frosh or j/v coach with a winning team welcomes good competition for their team - win or lose. Those teams exist for development as was said. What good does a perfect record do ? Sure the fans love the W's, but blowing teams out doesn't help players get better. If you say playing freshman was helpful to that varsity player, then fantastic!
  5. Yes this is her! You probably have seen her with the Blast, but I believe she has played for premiere also. She is not only a nice height - 6 ft ? maybe a little less, but she is just built! A little stockier than Sydney Moss was at that age, but she can move. And she just turned 14 in June. Nice girl.
  6. This. Triple seven - Not trying to make anyone look bad at all, in fact, just responding to RCC on the freshman question and was trying to give kudos to Conner freshman for sticking to their team despite playing quite short. Heard they only had 6 players for a freshman championship game at Scott (and it was their third game of the day) They lost but could have maybe won with the CHS freshman varsity girls on the roster. Yes, that was an excellent comeback by Walton vs Ryle freshman. I can understand why you are so glad Hailey played that day. Getting 21 of Walton's 43 points very helpful, and 4 days later she was the leading scorer for varsity, too! (before the Sandlin injury). I was under the impression Ison was 6th man since early in season, not merely "pulled up" as she excelled in freshman or j/v. Ison a very talented freshman, just saying that other teams could play freshman varsity players, too, but don't. Just does not seem like the right thing to do for the program, the girl or the younger girls that don't get play as much. If you can't field enough girls to have a freshman team then just don't have one. And, BTW, there was more than 7 girls in a WV uniform on that Saturday at Ryle. Maybe there was no 8th grade game that day?
  7. St Pius and IHM definetely still in the league. I don't think the MS league "organizers" have any issue with the number of teams in the league. This has been mentioned before. . . There is a pretty active parochial league also, few good teams and some not so good being that some of the schools are TINY.
  8. I could perhaps understand playing up and down if the school is very small or the roster VERY thin. SK is neither. Conner freshmen seem to play with only 7 players. Some of them also play up J/V and occasionally varsity. But they seem to draw the line for letting any freshman who start or get lot's of varsity minutes also play on the freshman team. I don't think Gambrel or Hendricks have played fresh at all this year, but I could see them being tempted with only 7 girls on the freshman team. Walton, on the other hand, seems to show up with plenty on the freshman bench but when they beat Ryle Freshman (now 18-1) in OT, Hailey Ison scored 21 points. At that point she was a big varsity contributor and maybe has even started at times? Doesn't seem quite right but no rule against it. I wouldn't think the varsity coach would allow a key player the risk exposure.
  9. This was a shoot around thrown together by the girls on the team - I am fairly certain this was without their coach's involvement. I don't think the BOE can prevent a bunch of players from working on their shooting on their own time - and dime. And why would anyone assume that Boone and Ryle were doing anything in tandom? SK a very good team; congratulations to them on their season and to the Lady Rebels for the impressive win.
  10. HC #3 is Dajah McClendon, another impressive freshman playing varsity ball this year in NKY - Looking like a very good class for girls basketball.
  11. Was a little surprised to see how well Ryle hung in there considering Johnson still out (plus 3 other girls sitting with injuries on their bench). Could be interesting when she get's back.
  12. Expect Johnson to be out for a few weeks due to bad nose fracture from head to face collision in Monday's game, plus heel problem - is in boot. Also, Ryle lost starting center Rachel Storer to ACL over the holidays. Seems to be a lot of injuries this year in girl's basketball. . .
  13. Sounds like a "good loss" if there is such a thing; BG pretty good team with only 1 loss, plus with the bus adventure getting to LCC - yikes! They will learn from it. Who is starting for SK? and do they go on to other games in the LCC tournament?
  14. Why is Ryle being dragged into this thread? To clarify, after Ryle's 5 games thus far, their opponent's record is 13-20. That is exactly the same record as Connor's first six opponents. For ease of comparison, if you count Ryle's next opponent, Jeffersontown, to make it six teams then their opponent's record would be 15-24. Not impressive, I agree, but several of those teams are traditionally good teams and all but one are out of region teams. Ryle has made a habit of seeking out competitive teams and seldom schedule really tiny schools, because what good would come out of that? And the Raiders have at least 4 Ky top 20 teams left on their schedule plus tournaments where they could face Manual, Ballard, Mercy, etc. How many NKY teams can say that? Does it make a difference? :idunno: How about some love for defending 9th region champs, Boone? The Rebels first six opponents have a combined record 29 - 8! Now that's a tough schedule! How about Brossart? Their first six opponents have a combined record of 9 - 25. And, NDA picked a tough road having Assumption and Walton in their first 3 games. Kudos to Conner for their impressive start, and, yes, the schedule gets tougher! Don't get defensive, Cougar fans, when BGPers say they are looking forward to seeing Conner go head to head with some more competitive teams. If you guys are going to be a top team and toot your own horn about your success, then you can't expect to get a pass when you talk about the "tough match-ups" on your early schedule.
  15. Not surprised to see NDA doing great things this year, and always glad to see a 9th region team victorious over Louisville teams! Congratulations !
  16. Look for both Grey's 8th grade boys and girls to take a stab at perfect records if all manage to play through the year. That group of girls went undefeated as 6th graders and won the Championship. Both teams undefeated so far and winning by huge margins. Cheeseman has played some for Shining Stars last year and this fall. Good kid.
  17. Nice preview for NDA - http://nky.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/AB/20121121/SPT0302/311180008/

  19. I understand that Emily is not playing this year - not sure why. Several girls are not playing hoops so they can focus on softball. I don't believe there are any seniors playing at Beechwood this year, should have had at least 3. Very promising 8th and 9th graders look to get playing time, but so young! Good Luck to them!
  20. Could we get Randy or Bigzig to go ahead and post the 9th region preview? We got 8th and 10th, and part of the 9th. . . . How about the whole thing?
  21. This is exactly right, Jarhead! This Ryle/SK rivalry is a myth made up by certain SK fans, perhaps by just the "special" one. I doubt most Ryle students even know who the Raiders are playing this week. Yes, Boone is the team that gets the Ryle people fired up. And, of course, it is because of past history with Boone. Perhaps SK fans are excited about getting a chance win one over Ryle this year, that is fine. Pioneers are having a nice season and they could elevate their record with Ryle to 3 wins & only 7 losses in the last ten meetings. Good for them! And, good luck to both teams! 4 pages into this thread and all the bashing is completely one sided, and mostly from just one poster. UK#1 fan, how do you manage to post so much nonsense ?
  22. I have heard several Cooper parents express great enthusiasm for Coach Terwilliger, I have not heard of transfers from Cooper. I think that by high school a lot of "weeding out" has occurred, particularly with girls, hence lower turn out for try-outs. By this point girls have a grip on their ability level and their desire to work as hard as a HS coach is going to work them. Many just lose interest. There is a lot more fun things to do for a HS kid when compared to running suicide drills. Another factor is the trend to play year round in one sport. The 2 and 3 sport athlete is getting rare. So I would imagine there are some Jag girls who could play hoops but will stick to soccor or volleyball, etc. The Jags should have a good team this year, but it certainly is a tough district.
  23. Why say such an inflammatory thing? Is this based on the one family's claim on another thread about a coach using a very ugly word? I don't believe there was ever any claim of a "sexual violation" ? Doesn't seem right to fuel a fire based on misinformation.
