  1. Campbell 8th grade very nice team, lost to Gray regular season, but beat Gray pre-season. Woodland beat Connor also and are undefeated regional play, as is Gray. Woodland and Gray have traded losses in unofficial tournament games, but St Mary's got the best of Woodland last week in the Turkeyfoot Tournament. St Mary's looks very strong; has players making an impact at Bishop Brossart, also. The Mustangs have a bright future. Gray 7th grade girls are rolling through their schedule again this year. No losses as 6th graders or 7th graders. Nearly 40 straight victories so far!
  2. Walton should be in top 20 before South Oldham for sure. Glad to see Dunbar getting ranked. Bryan Station shouldn't have dropped much from there pre-season ranking, maybe an omission? Losses to Ryle and Perry Cntl but beat Madison Central. Certainly would put NCC up there before NDA. Defending regional champ, haven't lost any yet. Nothing against NDA, but who have they beat/played? Ncc vs Boone tomorrow on the hill! Walton and NDA on the other hill tonight. Nice NKy match-ups...
  3. Owen Co has a rule where players are permitted to play up, but must play the appropriate grade level games also as their first priority. The middle school season starts and ends early to allow stand out MS players to play up after MS ball. Just another twist on the "playing up" issue. I believe Owen 8th grade was undefeated - surprise!
  4. I believe Ockerman and Holmes are the 8th grade boys teams to beat. They are winning and winning big. Not sure what their records are. . . Tomorrow, 12/10, Turkeyfoot MS continues it's 8th grade GIRL's tourney. Games start at 9am and go straight through to the 7:30 Championship game. Some good teams playing - Walton, Woodland, Gray, St Mary, St Pius, Summitview, Ockerman and Turkeyfoot.
  5. Glad to see that pirate face again! You will have to keep bgp updated on Ryle girls! I think Ryle will do just fine against Colerain this year. Looking forward to seeing a Ryle team that is whole and healthy, maybe by January?
  6. Oops, make it 3 starters that are 8th graders! Hensley is also an 8th grader. Top 3 scorers are 8th graders? Ouch. Maybe the congrats SHOULD go to Newport for scoring 30 points...
  7. That's a bit harsh, BlueKrush! No one likes loop-sided games, but isn't Newport in NCC's district? The game has to be played and a win is a win. But, I had to laugh - 2 of Newport's STARTERS are, in fact, 8th graders! I saw Stanley and Orr play an entire 8th grade game (Newport vs Gray) just 2 weeks ago and Gray won! But some programs have to do their best with what they have. I give those very young ladies credit! http://preps.cincinnati.com/BasketballGirls/Boxscore?gameid=125966 And, don't worry, NCC will play plenty of top programs this year and I expect them to do very well!
  8. It's hard to get info on middle school hoops, especially for girl's teams. Woodland 8th (girls) has a nice team, even with younger players and injuries. They won last week against Connor MS, last year's regional champs who have lost two of their girls to Connor HS this year. Gray 8th grade beat Woodland at pre-season tourney, but re-match in January. Expect them to meet again at regionals. Both undefeated reg season. Gray 7th grade girls keep winning by large margins, after being undefeated last year and winning Regional Championship.
  9. Campbell Co picked #11 in Enquirer pre-season for NKy, 4th in a 10th region pre-season poll, while Scott Co is supposed to be a top 20 team for the state. So, yes, I would say it is a big win for Coach Murray and the Lady Camels. Early rankings don't mean a lot and it is just the 1st game, but, it is a nice start for Campbell.
  10. So sorry to hear this! Prayers for the Shockey/Crittendon family. There was no one more loyal and enthusiastic about his favorite Lady Raider and her team. RIP Clint.
  11. Coach could have put in the cheerleaders once they were up by 50 . . . Ouch They play only 6 minute quarters? That's a lot of points in 24 minutes.
  12. Are there any 8th graders playing up for the Scott program instead of at Woodland?
  13. Now that is fun! Nice job Carson, and the kid assisting. Who was the opponent?
  14. No Sunday games at Lloyd. Saw some nice pre-season action in Erlanger this week-end - Now, let the season begin!
  15. Early tournaments at Lloyd and Highlands starting Friday ! - Who is going where?
  16. Colonal Red - I have also heard that there is trouble with Pike. Also, several other players quitting. ??? Hope that is not the case. Terrible way to end a season.
  17. In boys 8th grade news, Thad Moss has transferred from Gray MS to Ockerman after leading Gray to the Regional championship over - Ockerman! If Moss plays 8th grade basketball at Ockerman they will be very tough to beat.
  18. Have heard Cheesman hopes to start playing in November. Crittendon is apparently good to go. If Ryle freshman Smith can bring to Ryle Hoops anything like she has already brought to Ryle's pitcher's mound, then the Raider's post game should be much improved.
  19. Those should be some good match-ups! Considering the increasing popularity of mid-season tournaments for HS teams, love to see Northern Ky put a decent one together. The best of the 8th, 9th, 10th region ? Seems like NKy teams always traveling south for those events . . .
  20. In my kids case, it has been great, and yes it has reduced time with AAU team, but just since summer tourneys ended which was when HS coach opened up the gym. Free gym time, weight room available. . . What's not to like? We would be playing on an AAU league now if not for this new rule. But, kids will still flock to AAU in the spring/summer. If anyone gets an advantage here it might be the athletes that don't have other sports to keep them away from the extra time in gym and with coaches, etc.
  21. That is a tough break! She was going to run point for Ryle ? Who else might be up for PG for the Raiders while Ashley heals ?
  22. Not sure how the voting works on this, but Jenna wouldn't be able to play - she is struggling with a stress fracture. Cheesman was coming on pretty strong towards the end of the season...
  23. Shining Stars - made up of mostly NKy girls - won the AAU 9th grade State Championship last week-end at KBA. They were led by NCC's Nikki Kiernan. Several girls are from from NDA and Cooper. Nice to see the girls from the north dominate in a state event. Congrats girls!
  24. That is an awesome record! Congrats on making it to such an elite place as the semi-finals of the Ky Sweet 16! I honestly never heard of your county before this month, but I am now a big lakers fan! Good luck in the morning!
