  1. I did not realize I was trying to make them feel better.......That was not the intent....................MY point was things can always be worse other places and they certainly are where they are 0-25 and cancelled the last 8 games due to problems with juniors and seniors on the team........................
  2. Well at least they are not 0-25..................................
  3. Honestly the only reason the other districts seed is because those schools are out numbered in the district. This is the one district where they are not outnumbered.
  4. You can make comments in caps all you want but until the state classifies sports like they do football why should a school that small vote for seeding??????????????
  5. Firing a coach falls (by law) under the principal. However.............the principal does report to the superintendent. and in thsi district would not make a move without his 100% blessing......................................................................And yes this is a ridiculous situation unless there are facts we do not know about.
  6. I understand your explanantions but lets also look at how Mike Bankemper was treated with his AD/wrestling coach situation, look at how Coach Sullivan was treated, and to be honest the baseball position has been a revolving door and the hires up until this year have been bad hires. Really we need more info on this to see what was really going on behind the scenes
  7. 37th District Tourney at Morscher Field (NCC home field) hosted by Silver Grove Silver Grove vs Calvary SG/Calvary winner vs Campbell County Scott vs Brossart
  8. ft. bronc that is funny you mentioned about pick up baseball games. That is a real issue in most places. I do see pick up games all the time up the street from me in one yard. Other than that you never see kids just out playing baseball.
  9. Silver Grove has taken the tact of playing mainly middle school players and although not winning they are starting to produce some hitting numbers and they are making some plays: Billy Miller 7th grade SS hitting around 270 William Govan 8th grade CF/C hitting around 250 Briley Seiter 6th grade 2B hitting right around 300 Zach Tucker 8th grade 1B/P Andrew Klug 8th grade OF
  10. He is a real nice ball player..........You know there are too many coaches that do not submit their stats (Silver Grove is another one that does not).............And this is a shame because both Newport and Silver Grove (while they have bad teams) each have a couple young players that will be around for awhile that statistically are putting up good numbers..............................
  11. Is Pelgen being looked at for the job? Who is Rod Dupree? Pelgen would be a good choice although I assumed he was not in the running since he did not coach last year. Chad Montgomery is a quality coach and will do well as a head coach some day............ Due to a lack of teaching positions are they not considering outside candidates?
  12. I want to address the "throwing the ball" at the runner comment. The "old school" was that if a runner came in sliding high or still running at you the ball would be thrown at his head and thus he would get down and slide the next time he came into second. This is akin to throwing at the batter's head when he squares to bunt on a sqeeze play. My feeling is while a few may teach it above the HS level neither has a place in the high school game. I have seen both tactics used at the collegiate level as well as summer ball levels with older players.
  13. Is there anyway we could get some stats on these guys. it woud be interesting to see
  14. Not sure what his stats are but Dylan Embs of Brossart seems to have his name in the box score an awful lot...........Anybody know what he is hitting?
  15. I know in the 10th that Deming has no team so Silver Grove lost that game to play and was supposed to play Nicholas County instead...............But the coach decided  that since they had lost to Nicholas in the first week of the season they would count that game instead of playing again...................Not a good message.......
  16. Front Row that is an issue I would not have been aware of so that may be something to think about.......................................... Rockstar that is just an opinion about where he is in his career. He is the AD and teaching.....cannot see adding head football coach at this time..............
  17. A fine dissertation on the ACT but I am addressing one player in one specific situation not giving advice for the masses. Also quite frankly I did not like the insinuation that Coach Russell somehow did something wrong. The damage as far as taking the:thumb: ACT was done well before he got to Newport.
  18. Wow that is an absolutely loaded 10th grade class.....................
  19. Murray is very tough on the mound. 6th grade SS/2B Briley Seiter for Silver Grove has a great glove and has hit surprisingly well in the lead off spot for the Trains. unfortunately they struggle no matter who they play....but the flip side it gives a kid like him an opportunity to play varsity at 12 where most places you could not.
  20. Montgomery while young could really grow into the job. He would be a stable head coach for many years to come. And just like all first time head coaches will have growing pains. But the flip side is they could have that locked up for awhile. I cannot see Wilson as the head coach................but then you never know
  21. Sullivan for Walton..........what grade is he in????
  22. Ok lets be fair...................Coach Russell did the right thing all the way around and taking his ACT now will be just fine. The real problem is the education and guidance he received up until he came to Newport.
  23. Yes they are but you really need to look at the schedule. Many of the teams they have played are very strong teams.
  24. As do many of the teams they play..............I would venture to guess the majority of frosh teams are middle school students. Unless you are Silver Grove then your varsity starting lineup is comprised of 1 6th grader and 5 7/8 graders. :thumb: A lot of talent in grades 6-8 at Highlands...............Will be interesting over the next several years.....................
  25. Heritage hit the ball well. Brunner is a very good SS.............. Silver Grove 0-10 on the season and really needing a win. Home book showed 7 hits for the Grove but overall a well pitched game for St. Blancard who shut down the Trains after giving up 2 runs in the first inning. Silver Grove Hitting leaders for the game: Seiter 3-3 (leadoff hitter). Enquirer shows 2-3 so I would assume heritage gave an error on the 3rd plate appearance and Greis 2-2.....with both first inning RBI. Next up for Silver Grove is Campbell County
