The Good, The Bad and The Ugly plus Pee Wee's Place Offensive play of the game: BAWAC Inc. Defensive play of the game: Grubers Grill star of the game: and stats and such after I eat some dinner!

But first I want to congratulate Coach Baioni on the hard work he has done with his team and on the HHS Diamond itself. Stick with it coach, it is a work in progress and I for one can see the difference not only in the quality of players you have playing for you but in how they are learning to play the game.

The Diamond is starting to look real nice and hopefully the administration, and the community will start to appreciate what you are doing.

BTW congrats to the HHS students who attended the game and cheered on their team. Congrats ladies and gentlemen nice job!

Now a huge, huge and I mean huge embarrassment to you Ft. Thomas Highlands fans! Coach Baioni and his players deserve better from the Ft. Thomas community and Highlands High School then to have a CovCath players parent have to step up and volunteer to be the Public Address Announcer at this game today, Sorry, I can't imagine that happening at a HHS Football game and it shouldn't have happen today either!

The Good: Chris Gerwe pitching seven complete innings, Logan Siemer reaching base all four times today with 1 hit and 3 walks and the infield play of Stein and Schlagbaum.

The Bad: CovCath needs to starting hitting better, yes they won today but....

The Ugly: Not in beating HHS...

Pee Wee's Place Offensive play of the game: CovCath top of the sixth and the score is knotted at 1-1. Lankheit goes 6-3 for the first out, but Severson reaches first base via a E-6. Man on first one out! Schlagbaum walks on four straight balls (btw Rizzo had thrown 87 pitches prior to the start of this inning) men on first and second one out. Stein bunts the ball down the third base line and Rizzo fields the ball and tries to get Nienaber who is PR for (Severson) at third but the runner beat the throws and all are safe. Bases loaded one out and Senior Logan Siemer is up. Siemer works the count to 3-2 and fouls off one pitch before he is walked which forces in the go head run and keep the inning alive. Bases still loaded, one out score 2-1 CovCath. Warning on the first pitch goes Nutini (hbp) and gets a rbi for the pain and the score is now 3-1 CovCath and the bases are still loaded and still one out. Klein then hits the ball to the SS who steps on second but throws high to first base and Klein is safe. Runner scores and CovCath takes a 4-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh.

BAWAC Inc. Defensive play of the game:

HHS bottom of the first: Schultz hits a rope but Reese brings it in for the out. Rizzo hits a shot for a single. Man on first one out. Liggett hits a blast and moves Rizzo to third base and he is now standing on second. Second and third and only one out. Dill hits a hard ground ball to Schlagbaum at third and Slag looks the runner back and throws to Warning at first for the out. Men still on Second and third but now two outs. Hebel up and he hits a hard ground ball to Siemer left at second but Log just reaches out and grabs the ball and throws the ball to Warning to close out the first for HHS. Two men on (2nd and 3rd) for HHS with only one out and they don't score. Outstanding pitching, and "D" gentlemen.

Grubers Grill star of the game: My vote today goes to Chris Gerwe for his effort on the mound and at the plate and Brennam Slagbaum for his "D' at third. Slag had four attempt today and make all four of them....

CovCath is now 11-7 and plays Cooper HS on Wednesday at Cooper at 5pm.

CovCath pitching:

Chris Gerwe (W) 89 pitches 7 complete innings 27 PA 5 hits 1 run 1 earned run 1 walk and 3 K's

CovCath hitting:

Siemer 4 PA 1 run scored 1 hit (double) 1 rbi and 3 walks

Warning 4 PA 1 rbi 1 walk 2 sac bunts and 1 hbp

Klein 4 PA 1 rbi and 1 fc

Taylor PR

Gerwe 4 PA 1 hit (double) and 1 rbi

Taylor CR

Martin 4 PA 1 hit and 1 K

Lankheit 4 PA and 2 walks

Nienaber CR

Amor CR

Severson 4 PA and reached base via E-6

Nienaber and 1 run scored

Schlagbaum 3 PA 1 run scored 1 hit and 1 walk

Stein 2 PA 1 run 1 K and 1 fc

Grosser PH 1 PA and 1 K

I see the score 1-0 Highlands without umpires, no strike 3 call to end the top of the 5th, terrible call at 3rd, and the no interference call at second.

A win is a win and Gerwe continues to throw well.

Nice outing by Rizzo as well from the recap.

So CCH scored 3 runs without a hit? E, BB, FC, HBP, BB, FC?

Somebody's dog is going to have sore ribs tonite.

What happened at 1B when there was a question of Interference and/or a missed tag?

Was told by Krumps the man at third beat the ball and he was closer than even the umpire! Won't argue balls and strikes by blue, as it is a losing battle. If you noticed one of the CovCath batters gave the HP umpire a look about a called strike and his next at bat on the first pitch which was a ball as it was almost eye high, the man in blue called it a strike to pretty much tell the young man not to do it again! Honesty, I am confused your comment on interference call at second? What inning. What happened?

If you are talking about Gold the HHS SS kicking dirt on the CovCath runner on second a couple of times and then the CovCath runner kicking dirt back on him, then don't start it. I screamed at the umpire three times for him to stop it, and Krumps came in to complain to the umpire about the SS doing it but the man in blue said he didn't see anything!

Kleins should of been double play ball, runner from first not avoiding gold at 2nd. Throw ending up being high. (6th)

Glad you noticed that. :thumb:

I have said all along, they will scrath and claw for runs, but with great pitching and a very, very good/solid "D" you only need to score a few and that is what CovCath is being doing.

BTW did notice the #2 spot with 2 sac bunts, a Nutini, a walk and a rbi?

So what did he do wrong (BTW it was Warning, who was forced at second in that inning)?

The complaint from the coaches that I heard, was about the umpire missing the call at first base, which from my angle the HP umpire made the correct call after being immediately ask by the the infield umpire who couldn't see if the 1st baseman made the tag!

From what I saw only.

Ball hit to Gold the HHS shortstop by Klein with Warning at first base. I saw the SS pick up the ball and run to second and then throw the ball high and wide to the home plate side of first. Klein was running down the line and when the HHS first baseman jumped up and in to get the ball, he tried to tag Klein at first base. From my angle it looked like he missed the tag and because the infield umpire didn't have a great angle on the call he immediately requested the HP umpire for help. The HP umpire had a great angle on the call and immediately signaled safe!

I honesty couldn't tell you if Warning slid or not but I do know that if he didn't slide the SS could have hit Warning with the ball and the runner at first would have been called out!

One run scored (Stein) on the play as the bases were loaded.

Wow that is a disappointment. I'm assuming that this is new to HHS this year with the PA. It's the same two or three family's that are doing the volunteering. Some of the other parents need to step up and help out. Hopefully this won't happen again.

Not surprising!

This sounds like a scene from Charlie Brown. I noticed it earlier from the CovCath shortstop.

Honestly tell me that if this would have happened, because to do so he would have to do it intentionally, that your side would not have gone absolutely nuts. So what are you saying, that this tactic is taught at some schools or should be taught. I pretty sure the SS was thinking of turning a double play instead of thinking, "hey if he slides into me, then I will intentionally throw the ball at this runner". Sorry, but I have never seen this happen at any level. Maybe it has, and I'm sure you are going to tell me it has and then give me some examples, (and please do), but again I haven't seen it.
