I thought ol' Coach Scenters would have those boys ready to play.....big congrats to you and your boys Mark!

It's a daggone shame too that they aren't better than they are. They have some good athletes in that school and on the field as well. There needs to be an attitude shift all the way around by the players, coaches, and the staff. They have quite a bit of parental support, but, there could be some attitude changing there as well. They seem to expect to lose and blame the others....I just wish them the best and hope they can get over the hump next season. Good luck against Rowan this week to Southern.

I think that it will be tight game between two running teams that have two pretty good running defenses. I'll be rooting for Rock, but, the winner will be the one that makes less mistakes. (fumbles, penalties, special teams....etc.)

I think Coach Scenters will have his Lions ready after taking a beating from Casey...I'll take the Lions.

I'll certainly agree with that. Fowler or Faller I believe was his name, a tough cat to clean up after.

The game was a tight one and the boys played with a lot of heart. A fumble here, a missed assignment there and the ballgame could have been completely different. Congrats to SW on the win and to Rockcastle for showing they CAN play a little football.

I only wish that Coach McWhorter would have worked things out to finish the season. I may not be privy to some of his later coaching, but, the only coaching experience I know of that Paul Hester has is coaching youth league football in the Berea Youth league. I suppose that with Coleman helping him, they can put enough experience together to finish the season. I also don't know what policies are in place at Berea, but, in Rockcastle the AD/Assistant Principal is married to the girls head basketball coach and there certainly have been no problems there.

I have no idea why he quit, I understand that his wife is coaching another sport in Lincoln County? I am hearing the top candidate for the head coaching job is a Coleman that has been assistant coaching. I do wish Berea the best and McWhorter luck in whatever he does. He did help the Berea program advance forward.

I'm pretty familiar with the rivalry between these two local teams up there. Seems an awful shame to not play someone who is in your back yard and can make a competitive game out of it. I've heard similiar stories down here where some local teams that Rockcastle plays are debating on not playing them or resigining their contract. I can't imagine why not as it isn't like Rockcastle is the juggernaut they were earlier in the decade. Greenup, Raceland and Russell are all close in distance for great gate takes and in these economic times, the athletic departments of most all high schools can use all the help they can get.

Final Score. Rockcastle went up 22-6 at the end of first quarter and took the same score in at halftime after trying a few different looks during the second quarter. Went back to work in the third quarter and JVed most of the fourth. McCreary had some big guys on their front line and the Goins kid was pretty good, but, Rockcastle never looked back after taking the lead in the first after falling behind 6-0 at the start of the game.

I think that both teams will meet at Taco Bell which is middle ground for both schools, and call it a draw over a chalupa.

My kids go to Rockcastle and play football. I heard all kinds of things about the coaching staff there as the kids were coming up through grade school and even middle school. I heard some very very bad rumors about the program and some of the coaches there. I actually sat out there the first summer my oldest one started playing and kept the steely eyeball on most all of the goings on. I cannot say hardly anything bad about any of the varsity coaching staff for Rockcastle. Of course, I haven't agreed with every play or plan they have implemented since I've been associated with them, but, these guys are top drawer in my opinion. Nobody agrees with anyone on everything they do...but these guys are class acts, from the tough old varsity....been around coaching for more than 25 years assistant coach, to the quiet hard working very knowledgable head coach. I like them all pretty well and they have been good to my kids and helped them to love the sport of football. I know that if the wins don't come around more in the next year and a half, there will be a hot coaching seat in there and that's a shame. I don't have any idea who would be better than the current staff they have in place as a coaching change would disrupt continuity of the program and most likely would make things much worse before possibly not getting any better. Besides, like I said, these guys are knowledgeable, hard working, home grown, and they have a lot of pride in their home program. The "natives" might need to hold thier tongues because they don't know what the situation is that this coaching staff is having to work with. Give them a little more time, they have only four seniors on this team and next year they will be senior heavy with a pretty good supporting cast as the youth gets to play some varsity this year. These kids are not huge like some of the past Rockcastle teams. The biggest lineman is a 250 pound sophomore who just got the nod to start three games ago. The next largest starter is a 245 pound freshman who has about the same varsity experience. Parkey and staff are doing the best they possibly can in my honest opinion and need a little more time before the natives skin 'em and put 'em on a spit.

There were two boys out that night and one got hurt during the game for a total of three. Two will be back tonight against KC. One will not be back. Southern's line got tired during the game and Rock started opening holes. I don't know why they quit throwing the ball to #11 for Southern as he caught the two TD passes early and they just threw to him like 2 more times..maybe three. Southern has a passing threat there and are not that bad.

Boy...those are some names I've not thought about in a while. Harrodsburg and Paris were in our district and would usually kills us in Berea. Another name that I just thought about was Donald Smith, last I heard, he was coaching at K-State? He was like hitting a padded fire hydrant.

I am rooting for Knox in this game, but, I think Bell will likely win as I have witessed them firsthand this last week score at will on our boys. The line for Bell is a decent line, but, the second wave for Bell on defense is really something to contend with and the Davenport kid has to be the fastest high school running back I've seen in person. He gets around the end fast enough, but when he sees daylight, it's like he grabs for the overdrive gear. Knox has a huge line that should be comparable to Bell's and maybe even better, but, their corners are going to have to be extraordinary to keep up with the speed in the Bell backfield. The game will hinge on how well the Knox defense holds Davenport in check and how much they can soften up Bell's secondary with their passing game so they can establish the running game where the box isn't loaded up. Good luck to the Panthers against a very good Bell team.

Good luck to your boys HOP! I think McCreary will win a close one against a much improved Powell County team, especially since they have that long drive to McCreary. McCreary by a touchdown.

If Rockcastle doesn't mishandle the ball and plays up to what they are capable of, I think that they will keep it much closer than what is posted above. The turnovers and the penalties just start to snowball on them at times. Good Luck ROCK!

Wayne County is really a pretty good team and seem to get better as the seasons progress, and I use the point of them just losing by single digits very late in last year's season to Somerset who went to the 3A title game. I wish McCreary the best of luck for the rest of the season and hope they get untracked and to Wayne as well. Both teams have a lot of heart. Good luck to ya' HOP!
