  1. Not saying football isn't more popular but your logic is flawed. Football rosters are three times or more the size of basketball rosters, plus you can play 22 kids and they call themselves "starters" even more counting special teams in a football game but only 5 at a time in basketball. Obviously the numbers for football are going to be higher. I think football runs too long as well, take out the bye week at the least and if necessary go to a 9 game regular season and just let everyone in the playoffs, we nearly do that now anyway.
  2. Correct, the rules clinics mainly cover changes from the previous year. There is no test per say that coaches must take in order to coach. Well othe than first aid and cpr.
  3. Let me be the first to say I'm pulling for all the Mountain teams, Hazard, Bell, and Breathitt!
  4. I agree, I think you could make an argument for Ashland, Bath, or Menifee even as the 3rd team in this region, and none posing a serious threat to the top two.
  5. I think this is developing into the big rivalry in the 10th. I think a series has to be pretty even or at least both teams win some games, especially big games for it to be a rivalry. I wouldn't put Montgomery/Mason in the rivalry category because Montgomery has seldom beat Mason other than a couple of times in Coach Rison's heyday.
  6. I've been saying for a while this team is not a walkover. They play hard, have some athleticism and can shoot the ball. Coach Moore has really turned this program around. The district should be hotly contested this year between Menifee, Bath, and Rowan.
  7. If the Cards are without Stenzel this will be closer than expected. I'm going to say Clark by 10.
  8. Didn't last long but this was a good rivalry for a few years. Played in it myself. It was even more heated on the baseball field in the late 80's and early 90's. Estill has also developed some pretty heated rivalries in basketball with Powell County and Lee County since joining the 14th region. In the 16th, Boyd/Ashland is an oldie but a goodie. I would anticipate Mason/Clark turning into a good one in the next 2 to 3 years with the talent each program has.
  9. Ah dang, that is funny, may be post of the week for me.
  10. Too bad they don't have the Bluegrass Leagues anymore Doc. I remember my Dad telling stories about his years playing in that league and it must have been something.
  11. If you really wanted to play a good solid baseball schedule, baseball should run in the fall, you'd start just like football and play August and September and most of October with few rainouts. But we know that's not possible so you have to run it to after school ends.
  12. Menifee will surprise a lot of people in the 16th this year.
  13. Rash played well. Heck they all played well. Several were in double figures. Could have been a lot worse than it was.
  14. Hey now, to be fair that same run defense held him to 70 yards first time they played.
  15. Estill County would be like the old Nebraska teams of Tom Osborne.
  16. I was surprised at the low numbers Breathitt had as well. I even asked one Breathitt fan if that was just upper classmen that dressed for the playoffs and he said that was the whole team. Really surprised me.
  17. Would like to see this one played later in the season. Estill just got their players back from football on Monday. I think both these teams will be top 5 in the 14th by the end of the season.
  18. Montgomery could have named the score. I couldn't believe how weak Lafayette was. I know they only won 4 last year, but after watching them last night, they are really going to struggle in their district and region. Montgomery didn't empty their bench but he did play his second team major minutes. Cody Curtis was shooting lights out from 3 point range and pretty much scored at will. What really shocked me last night was the pathetic turnout for an opening game. Very small crowd.
  19. If you took those 200 fans out of the fieldhouse maybe you would have enough room to actually raise your arms and clap.
  20. If you're talking about players who are sophomores this past season there are several good sophomore qb's that will impact their teams next year including the ones at Mason County, Rowan County, Lawrence County, Boyd County, and Greenup County.
