Size/strength or speed, which is more important?

Featured Replies

Virtually every review of a team states they either have great size/strength or great team speed. Which is more important?

Strength punishes, but speed kills.

Its hard to hit someone if you can't catch them!

Speed kills, but ya gotta have heart too

Speed... Especially on this level of football, If you have mediocre speed (4.6-4.9) your going to win alot of foot races to the end zone.

Speed by far!!! I would take 11 fast kids over big kids anyday!

Highlands has proved year after year that speed kills and you don't need a big/strong team to win a state title.

Speed! That is how it gets done at Ft. Campbell!!

Speed! No question about it.

Exactly who I thought of.

Hmmm, Size & Strength (Big 10), versus Speed (SEC). I'll take speed!

Speed... but nothing tops "execution".

The speed of the game changes every year. The game is so much faster than it was 20 years ago. Now days, 250-300lb. lineman can run with the backs! It is amazing. Seems you can't compete in todays game without speed. Teams with strength and speed combined are the winners. I don't think size is as important as it used to be.

Very true, speed can quickly be negated when it gets called back because of a penalty or they put the ball on the turf.
