  1. I'm going to say Morgan by 6. They're playing well and have a lot riding on this game.
  2. You have to have pitching and catching. After that depends on what you call "good" defense, do you just mean glove work, or cannon for an arm, range, intelligence? Each position needs certain qualities. Someone said earlier that you have to be strong up the middle, well if you're weak on the corners you won't win many games. You need a cannon in right field and speed in center. But it all starts and ends with pitching and catching in my book. You can win if you're strong there.
  3. Should be a sneek peek of the district championship in a few weeks (depending on the draw of course). Hopefully Menifee can beat Bath a third time. Nice win for the Green Wildcats.
  4. I think Boyd will improve on the district title team this year and should be the favorite again to win the district. They return several good sophomores and juniors that played quite a bit, especially down the stretch. I think Morgan will improve quite a bit and from what I've heard has a really strong 8th grade class coming in as freshmen next season so I look for them to be much stronger in the coming years.
  5. Then Mays would go back to being a mediocre coach. Wouldn't you retire in his situation?
  6. Euton was way overrated to begin with. Solid player, but I don't think in the top 10 in the state by any means. Said it last year when he and Jackson were at Rose Hill that Jackson was the better talent. I agree that just about any district in the 16th is weak, and the Estill, Powell, Lee, Owsley isn't very strong this year either.
  7. Yes, you're right, the Arthur kid was hurt last year, hamstring pulled from the bone and was still their 2nd best pitcher on one leg. He held Lawrence County to I think 2 or 2 runs through 4 innings last year, again on one leg. He was not hurt during football season and started the last 5 games at quarterback when they made the playoff push. You're are also forgetting the Clark kid who may be a better second baseman than Polley along with some other strong young players and a solid freshman in Salisbury. Boyd is loaded with sophomore talent this year and will probably fall into the 2nd to 5th range in the region depending on how they mature. I think by season's end they will be tough and for the next two years could be the team to beat once again in the 16th. Hiring Ramsay and getting Maynard out of there can do nothing but help this program.
  8. You're kidding right? Wayne Breeden was always solid, and I think O'Hearn at Mason has done a good job.
  9. Thought the final score would be closer but from accounts I've gotten it was tight up until the end. Nice win for Fairview over a solid Menifee team.
  10. They play Omar Prewitt on the freshman team. They're a solid bunch even without him helping them. I know they better be solid because it looks like the Indians may be in for a couple of lean years until they get older.
  11. I think one of the issues no one has really brought up here is the extra financial burden the 3 official requirement is putting on schools. For those whose budgets aren't fat to begin with this is a real problem.
  12. Ah man, I'm laughing at the Raney Home statement...too funny!
  13. Estill County has used a version of this and has been one of the top rushing offenses in the state the past two years.
  14. He might not have been 6'0 200 and run a 4.5 but Derek Smith was a pretty freakish athlete and went about 6'6 250...plus you had a 280 pounder at qb at one time with a cannon for an arm. Highlands has tons of athletes, great program but you have to have athletes to be dominant. I would say best way to construct a dynasty would be to coach a Catholic school in Louisville, Covington, or Lexington. :idunno:
  15. Could have sworn I caught a hint of a smell of glovolium, atomic balm, and fresh cut grass in the air yesterday...
  16. Should be a close game and would love to see Menifee pull out a win, but I'll take the Eagles since it's at Fairview by 5.
  17. When's the last time Fairview was maybe the best team in Boyd County? Right now Rose Hill and Fairview would probably be above both of these teams. I'll say Ashland 75 Boyd County 50
  18. So Rash is worth 37 points against a 4-13 team??? I can give you several players that can score, Curtis, Hendrix, Danis, Manship...all juniors and seniors. Scoring 37 points against a team with 4 wins is terrible. Rash is a good player but come on....
  19. I agree that Rose Hill should be the class of the 16th the next few years with that very good freshman class, and in the 10th it appears Clark County will be top dog for at least the next two years with the awesome sophomore class.
  20. The injury to Rash really hurts them but it shouldn't have made this big a difference on this team. Poor showing by the Indians.
  21. What's puzzling is they have some good shooters on this team. One thing I have noticed is they don't handle big, physical teams well on the inside.
