Ram
I don't think a poll is needed, but what teams in North-Eastern Kentucky are going to be the biggest surprise of 2009? I can see an argument for several teams: Greenup County has a new coach that has breathed some new energy into the program and could be a big surprise in 2009, Boyd County is going to have the opportunity to improve I think, Ashland may not be a big surprise but they are going to be very good in 2009, Lawrence County has room for improvement and was in several of their games last year but could not pull out the win. East Carter and West Carter I do not know exactly what to expect from them this year. Russell appears to be down some this year, but they tend to do pretty well no matter what they have. Raceland looks to loose a lot, but has many capable players that most may not be familiar with that are very good. Fairview seems to have a very good coaching staff in place that brings the best out in their players and could have a really good year. Morgan County, Magoffin County, Rowan County, and Lewis County I don't what kind of expectations they are having, could one of them be a big surprise this year? Johnson Central has been doing some great things. I don't know what they are expecting this year, but I would say they have high expectations. What do you think, who is going to surprise everyone? sidelinedoc
I think Greenup and Boyd County are the two to watch. If Greenup will focus on the field and keep the bleacher coaches quiet and the players buy into the new coach, it could be exciting in Lloyd. Boyd County lost some good talent but has a lot of experience coming back. If both of these schools could figure a way to maximize the numbers they have to choose from, they could get real good real fast! Ashland, Russell and Raceland will put up wins. I don't think any of these 3 would suprise a person if they won 7 or 8 games next year. It would be a bigger suprise if any of them were below .500. kyball26
Hard to say about Greenup with a new coach. Raceland will be a good solid team. Russell will be good but I don't see them being as good as recent years. Ashland will be a pretty good team. Boyd County will be good up front if they can replace what they lost in the backfield. Fairview will be a solid team. East Carter has the potential to suprise but I think Lawrence will be the biggest one in the area. They played pretty well at times last year. Ram
I think Lawrence County has the most potential to surprise. If I had to pick a team to surpass expectations, they are the one that I would pick. I do look for some good things from Greenup County and Boyd County. extackler
Johnson Central will not surprise anyone. They're going to be very good again! They have very good skilled players back for the 09 season. Many of them were Sophomores and Juniors last year.

I can agree with you, but Coach Matney said that Johnson Central was going to be down this year. Was he being less then truthful, or are they going to be down some? Was he being less then truthful, or are they going to be down some? I think he's playing the "underdog" card. He did this during the playoffs last season. Believe me, they were athletic, fast and well coached. I don't think that will change this season. If they lacked anything it was a kicking game. THUNDERBIRDS
I can agree with you, but Coach Matney said that Johnson Central was going to be down this year. Was he being less then truthful, or are they going to be down some? I would say he was sandbagging a little bit. They have some very good skilled players as Bird Hustle has said. I look for them to make a run again in late November. This time they will have to travel to Northern Ky for the festivities.

sidelinedoc
I just want to keep bragging on the new coaching pick by the Greenup Administration. I just think that his coaching style will benefit the kids and showcase their ability. In doing so, this will make them more of a threat and will keep them in more games. Greenup use to have a reputation of being the most physical team on the field and I think this will return. If you are the most physical team, you will win more than you lose. This is why I pick them to be one of the suprises for 2009.
BadJ
Morgan county has had 20-30 kids in the weight room 5 days a week since the end of football season. The kids have said this is the first time they've ever had organized lifting.... so, take that for what you will. I know when I came at spring break I'd have 3-5 kids. I'm not sure Highlands has to worry....YET, but we'll surprise a few this year Edited February 4, 2009 by Ram Rule

When you get most of the team deticated to lifting in the off season you will most certainly be able to see results on the field next season. BadJ
I sure hope so. We have seen gains across the board on all of their lifts and if they stay with it I'm 100% sure the success will come. Thanks for the words of encouragment Edited February 5, 2009 by BadJ addition cuz my add kicked in and we should all be polite
