Estill County 5 Lexington Catholic 2
friedtaters replied to Central KY Baseball's topic in KY Baseball (High School)
And this relates to this thread in what manner???? Good win for Estill against a quality team. A lot of parity in high school baseball this year and anyone can beat anyone else based on pitching matchups. -
Boyd should be the favorite in their district again and I think will be improved from the team they had last year. Having the qb situation established will help along with a strong Junior class.

What BGP member has the most Basketball Knowledge?
friedtaters replied to Eta Rho's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
I second that nomination! :thumb: I thought this was a lark until some folks started getting defensive. BGP is full of knowledgeable people, that's why it's enjoyable to read. -
Boyd County got a monster performance from sophomore pitcher Tyler Arthur with 6 shutout innings to beat The rockets and their senior ace.

I would think the Engineers would take a step back after several good years in a row. They lost a ton of talent.

Hey they still have probably the best player in Kentucky which makes the job for the new d-coordinator a lot easier. Breathitt is 3A by the way, just a typo I'm sure. :thumb:

They have their qb Terry returning, but will probably take a step backward in 2009.

Boyd is young, but talented, especially in their sophomore class.

Each Region's Player & Coach of the Year
friedtaters replied to ebayer's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Webb did a solid job at West Carter, but how Justin Moore didn't win coach of the year after the job he's done at Menifee is puzzling. -
Wow, hasn't even coached a game yet. Brossart head job must be a tough gig.

Nice win to set up an all mountain quarterfinal. -
Richie Phares to walk on at Louisville

Would have loved to see him put on the black and orange of Georgetown College, but hope he does well at UL. -
Coaches Retiring, Leaving, Fired, Etc.
friedtaters replied to Deep 3 pointer's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Greisser's wife is pretty attached to Georgetown, so I could see him taking the Harrison job to be closer to home. He actually accepted and then backed out of a small college job to stay in Georgetown a few years ago. -
Lose 5, but it's a HUGE five in terms of production and playing time.

Enrollment of the Sweet 16 Schools

I think the most likely out of all of these scenarios would be Boyd absorbing Fairview, but that's unlikely. Fairview and Russell could also combine if an annex took place. Personally I think it would be a shame to combine them. Wish Wurtland and McKell were still around. -
Is Jim Hicks going to Fleming?
friedtaters replied to Shaft's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
I would think to be more consistently competitive year in and year out. I'm not convinced he'd leave for Fleming. I think he'll leave but I would guess it would be a school outside the 16th. :walk: -

O.K. fine, discount the previous 4 years then. Anyway, my original point is that they were in a tough district and region previously, and like most small schools had lean years etc, but the past two years have had a couple strong classes. It also did not help them that they gave up their turn in the district hosting rotation to Clark County due to having a small gym until they built their new one in the 90's. Not saying Hicks can't coach, but he did come along at a very opportune time. As for the teams in 85-86, you stopped Swartz, you stopped Bath. -

If you're well aware you'd know in the 70's Bath went to the State Tournament I think twice. So they have had district, and region champions in the past. I played on the 85 and 86 Estill teams coached by Bart Rison and would definately argue Bath was not more talented. The 84-85 Estill team won the district, and the 85-86 team had Tony Muncie one of the better players in Estill history who was offered by Georgetown College among others. -
Mike Harris could make it sizzle for Tates Creek in the 80's.

Agree totally, if he were to have another good season perception would change quite a bit. :thumb: -

If you're going to go back 30 years, you need to remember the district and region Bath was in until about 18 years ago. They were in the 40th with Montgomery, Clark, and Estill so not winning a district wasn't anything to be embarassed about at that time. Plus, Rowan has been down the past couple of years along with Fleming, so he hit Bath at the perfect time. The guy is a pretty decent coach but it's all about perspective. -

Anyone think that Hicks could possibly end up at Harrison County? I haven't heard anything, just would think he'd be interested and attempt to get that job. -
Montgomery Co. vs. Iroquois Predictions
