After watching Fairview play Boyd down to the wire, I like the no quit attitude the Eagles have, I'll take them by 7.

Gotta go with Williamsburg and home field on this one.

Amen brother, that's why they have to playoffs and play the games. Belfry and Central still have to strap'em on and play before we coronate them prematurely. It will be tough to beat either one, but I wouldn't just discount any 1 or 2 seed at all.

Wow, Estill County goes 9-1 with only a 1 point loss at Breathitt and can't get any love at all on here.

If you re-read my post I mentioned the solid freshman and 8th grade classes. I was saying Montgomery will have to come a long way to be competitive in their district, look at this year's scores they really struggled. Plus it's hard to win consistently in 5A when you have junior and senior classes with 8 and 10 players. Just an opinion from an objective viewer. Not hatin' on your Indians SM.

Boyd has an excellent sophomore quarterback who saved their bacon against Fairview, see my above post. In my opinion the backup (Tyler Arthur) should have been playing qb all along and Wilson playing running back/receiver.

Harsh!!!!! I see the Montgomery fans are falling behind Dixie instead of support their district teams. I support the Tomcats all the way! Hope to see the Tomcats pull it out 36-21...

You're correct, 9-1 and that 1 point loss was AT Breathitt. I'm not sure who the 'Neers have first round, I want to say Knox Central but not sure.

Good win for the Indians, thought this would be a much tighter game. Nice to see the 7 seniors go out with a win. I'll have to disagree with you on the "better than record indicates" though Painter, Montgomery is really going to have to make huge strides to be competitive in their district next season. They played well against teams outside the district (4-2) Beating Madison Southern, Rowan, Bourbon, and Paris and losing to Clark and East Jessamine. Inside the district Montgomery was blown out in every game by Ashland, Woodford, Station, and Johnson Central. (Granted this is a tough district) Fortunately Station moves up to 6-A next season which means the Indians will automatically get into the playoffs. Unfortunately, the Indians lose a lot of their key players in Hackworth, (who I think is as good a football player as I've watched this season) Darnell, Cundiff, Curtis, Hussey. Hopefully Gooch can turn things around and get the program going back in the other direction next year. They do have some talented sophmores such as Kendrick and Cox that played more as the season wore on and should help them a lot next season, and I have heard great reports about the freshman quarterback Kelly and the eighth grade qb Tuttle so looks like good players are coming up through the ranks. :thumb:

While there are certainly exceptions to the rule about larger class schools beating smaller class (Beechwood, Danville, etc...) I don't think any of us would argue that if you took the top 20 teams from 6A and played the top 20 from 1A that it would be lopsided in the won/loss column. Larger schools just have more athletes to choose from year in and year out. Now lets talk about the actual game! Was thrilled to see Coach Evans finally use Arthur at quarterback and Wilson at running back and receiver, the offense for Boyd just seems to hum when this scenario is used. I hope Evans sticks with this in the playoffs. Arthur's qb rating is now something like 150 which is sick. I was also impressed with how hard Fairview played and having no quit in them. Heck if Fairview doesn't drop that wide open pass in the end zone at the end of the 1st half it might have been a totally different game. Nice win for Boyd and nice effort by Fairview going into the playoffs!

Several schools have these travel issues in the current alignment including Ashland.

The 5A Indians travel to Morehead tonight to close out a disappointing season against the 4A Vikings. Montgomery is coming off a blowout win over Madison Southern and Rowan County is coming off a surprising blowout loss to Paris. Hard to get a read on this Rowan County team, but I'm going to give them the edge with home field and say Rowan County 28 Montgomery 27.

From the reports I'm getting out of Owingsville, Maze may be there top b-baller this season, although Metz is a heck of an athlete. They should be solid again this season but will really miss Clemons' athleticism and ball handling skills at the point. When things broke down they could always give him the ball and let him create. After this season the Wildcats could have a couple rough years.

Tough tournament, if Griez wins this one they should give him a fat Christmas bonus.

I watched Fairview play on a local school district channel there in Ashland earlier in the year, and have seen Boyd in person twice, not sure they are bigger, stronger and faster than Fairview. Boyd's linemen are out of shape and get worn down as the game goes on.

Agree, best ATHLETE, not best quarterback though. Wilson is the best Tailback playing quarterback in that area.

This really shouldn't surprise any of us if we really look at who Boyd has beaten this year. Rowan was destroyed by Paris, Lawrence is 0-8, Greenup is weak this year, and East Carter, who moves into this district next year isn't a powerhouse either. Decent competition (Ashland, Grant, Breathitt) has blown them out this year.

This one was a shocker, although that district with Rowan, Greenup, Boyd, and Lawrence is extremely weak.

Had a few ponderings while watching this game. 1. The Indians came out and never let Southern even think they were in the game which is what you should do with an opponent who is 0-8. 2. Was glad to see Hackworth and the rest of the seniors get a win on senior night. 3. Was a little disappointed in the Montgomery staff that they had Hackworth and a lot of the starters still in the game with 8 minutes to go and up by 7 touchdowns, (which is when the above mentioned interception for Hack took place) I'm just a big believer in pulling starters and not running up the score, just my opinion. 4. How in the world did Madison Southern's program get to this point? They were probably the weakest high school team I've watched in 2 or 3 years, only dressed what looked to be about 25 players, and this is a 4A school in Madison County???? No way they should lose 14 straight games.
