This wouldn't be similar to Boyd at all. Unless you consider Ashland Independent a tiny little school. Plus you have Fairview and Rose Hill Christian.

I thought they did Rock but wasn't sure. That's how to build a solid program, especially when you don't have superior athletes year in and year out. Create a system that the kids buy into and can run in their sleep. I'm gonna predict the Bears will be anxious to get to 5A after tomorrow night! Go 'Neers! :fight:

Maybe every County school that has another district, but if you're the only school in the district such as Estill, Lee, Montgomery, Woodford etc, it would be kind of lame to refer to yourself as "The County." I know Boyd County does this, and it's the first time I've ever heard it used. Maybe I'll start referring to myself on here as "The Taters" to differentiate from other tater using members.

Painter, Bryan Station has a defensive tackle that is just huge. Tall and broad. Station has size and speed, but I don't think they're a lot bigger than Ashland. You guys don't have big round bellies on the line which I think is a good thing, your kids are in excellent shape. Oh and Montgomery currently occupies the 5th spot in the district, Station would be the 4th team based on record right now.

One reason they buy into the Double Wing, or Rocket as they call it, is that they run this offense in the middle school as well, so by the time these kids get to high school, they can run the double wing in their sleep.

Estill was 9th in the state against the run in the last rankings I looked at. I would say they will control Harlan's attack. I don't think Harlan can control the #4 ranked rushing offense in the state though. As for the crowd Estill will bring, that's a long, curvy trip so not sure how Estill's fans will travel. Should bring a decent crowd though.

I think these trips are good for programs as far as the competition, but it's also sad that some kids basically have to give up baseball due to their families not being able to afford trips like this, baseball academies etc. I know some programs basically tell kids if they can't participate in the off-season academies, the spring break trips, etc, they can't play.

Strong post Dough Boy. Totally agree that Fields needs to step up his schedule if he really wants to win district titles and not just pad the won-loss record with cupcakes. :thumb:

This is another game I put as a W for Boyd at the beginning of the season, but these teams seem to be heading in opposite directions. With it being at Rowan, I have to pick against my team and go with Rowan 21-14. Hope I'm wrong.

At the beginning of the season I had Boyd beating Fairview by at least 2 touchdowns, now I'm thinking this is going to be one tough game for the Lions to pull off.

The biggest concern for Ashland is Bryan Station's team speed and the amount of distance they have to travel for this game. I think Ashland's defense has the speed to contain the Defenders of the Station, so if Ashland isn't worn out by the bus ride, it'll be Tomcats 28 Defenders 21

This game will depend on when Johnson Central starts substituting liberally. Big gap between these teams even when Montgomery is healthy, hate to say that but just don't see this being a game.

That is the point of this thread. I just cannot put my finger on it. I would like nothing more than to see several great teams come out of theis area. I, too, do not understand why BC only pulls such a small group of kids. There is something missing. BC has the size (population) to be great. I see Raceland, a much smaller school, that is a true, tough , football power. Then, there is Ashland with all the tradition. BC has not been able to find it's football strength since the mid 80's. I encourage all suggestions. Truely, I am at a loss.

I watched the tremendous Ashland Tomcats vs. Boyd County Lions rivalry die this year. What should the Lions be doing to revive this program? Please be constructive.....

This should be a heck of a game, LCA has a great running game with Hayden, but Breathitt did a pretty good job of stopping Estill County's running game which is 4th in the state. I think the difference will have to be how well Witt plays and throws the ball. I'm going to say LCA 35 Breathitt 28

At the beginning of the season I would have picked East by at least two touchdowns, now I'm thinking Rowan County by 7. As for the district, I know Boyd County has already beaten Lawrence and Greenup, so I think they have at least #2 seed locked up. Rowan is 1-1 with a win against Lawrence and a loss to Greenup. Greenup is 1-1 with a win against Lawrence and a loss to Boyd. So right now Boyd County controls their destiny for the 1 if they beat Rowan.

Speaking of playing a tough schedule, it's good to know Boyd County will play Raceland in 09 instead of driving 2 hours to play Grant County or Breathitt. I predict Raceland (Who I think may be the strongest team in the Ashland area) by 3 touchdowns in this one.

I agree, he didn't play a killer schedule in the later years, but up until he came to Montgomery they had won I think 1 district title in 10 years, and at one point I think he had a run where he won like 10 out of 14. I think he took them to at least 4 Region finals. I think Coach Griesser can take the program and get it back to consistently winning the district and competing for the region just like Rison had them at in the late 80's through mid 90's. I'm just saying sometimes we have short memories when it comes to coaches especially ones that are at a program for several years and forget what shape the program was in before they arrived. Just my opinion.
