Congrats to Montgomery Co. on finishing out the regular season with a 2 game winning streak. Although football season is now over for you guys, I believe you are a much better team than the final record of 4-6 indicates.

Good win for the Indians, thought this would be a much tighter game. Nice to see the 7 seniors go out with a win.

 

I'll have to disagree with you on the "better than record indicates" though Painter, Montgomery is really going to have to make huge strides to be competitive in their district next season. They played well against teams outside the district (4-2) Beating Madison Southern, Rowan, Bourbon, and Paris and losing to Clark and East Jessamine. Inside the district Montgomery was blown out in every game by Ashland, Woodford, Station, and Johnson Central. (Granted this is a tough district) Fortunately Station moves up to 6-A next season which means the Indians will automatically get into the playoffs. Unfortunately, the Indians lose a lot of their key players in Hackworth, (who I think is as good a football player as I've watched this season) Darnell, Cundiff, Curtis, Hussey. Hopefully Gooch can turn things around and get the program going back in the other direction next year. They do have some talented sophmores such as Kendrick and Cox that played more as the season wore on and should help them a lot next season, and I have heard great reports about the freshman quarterback Kelly and the eighth grade qb Tuttle so looks like good players are coming up through the ranks. :thumb:

This program should continue to get better. They are starting to reep the benefits of having a good feeder program. There pee-wee program that they revamped about 8-10 years ago is starting to show at the high school level. And there middle school teams are continuing to improve.

Friedtaters, lets not already be doubting the indians for next year. They return alot of players including 6 players that started at least once on the o-line. They also return Dotson, Murphy, and Covey who have proven themselves and Richardson, Shuler, Tuttle, and Henderson that have great potential and will be starting next year. This doesn't include any freshman such as Kelly, Burton, Curtis, Donaldson, Witt and Taulbee, who all got playing time this year. At linebacker the indians return their leading tackler from this season Zack Hood who averaged between 10-11 tackles a game this season. They also, like you mentioned before, return Kendrick at DE, and with a year in the weightroom he could be one of the top DE'S in the state by his senior year. They also have an amazing coaching staff that will have all their players ready to go.

Actually there were 8 seniors - even though only 6 were available at the end of the season.

 

Seniors are always hard to replace - but the MC coaches are excellent at developing players. After losing the outstanding seniors from the '07 season, they were able to develop the '07 juniors into a strong senior class and I feel confident they will do the same with the ten juniors they have this year.

If you re-read my post I mentioned the solid freshman and 8th grade classes. I was saying Montgomery will have to come a long way to be competitive in their district, look at this year's scores they really struggled. Plus it's hard to win consistently in 5A when you have junior and senior classes with 8 and 10 players. Just an opinion from an objective viewer. Not hatin' on your Indians SM.
