Newport 59 Covington Catholic 48
scout replied to Walter's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
BTW, the only really 'bad' call IMO, was the blatant walk by by #14 at the top of the key in the third (I believe). It happened right in front of the grey haired ref. Other than that, I liked the officiating. It was very consistant and seemed fair. I also liked how every team seemed to adjust to the style quickly. -

Very impressive game by Newport. Very talented group of young men. I thought their lack of depth would be a problem, but that was helped by the 'let'm play' style of officiating by the 16th Region On the CovCath side, very impressive performance by Mr. Evans & Mr. Wellbrock. That is what Senior leadership is all about. Thank you Class of '10 for a great year. -
9th Region at the BOK. Can it be better?

Great venue for the games. I do find it odd that there is so much security in the place. I was there Monday night for the girl's games and there was almost one cop for every fan. There wasn't that much security at the Duke-Maryland game. Oh, wait. Probably not a good comparison. -

Mr. Radio: Please don't stop letting emotions come through the mic. If I am listening to you, that means that I can not be at the game. I want you guys to convey the emotion of the crowd. That should come through in the broadcast. As for celbrating, as long as it is respectful, those boys are supposed to show that 'Spirit that will not die'. That is unless they've changed the motto already?? My hope for this game is that CovCath can gain back the confidence they demonstrated in some of their past big games. If they can come out like that, they'll have a chance to celebrate again. -
St. Henry / Covington Catholic 3/3 Predictions

I agree that there is a danger of CovCath falling into the 1-D trap. Interestingly, during the first meeting of these teams this year, Coach L never put three of his 'big' guys on the court at one time. CovCath never tried to take advantage of their height and that, I believe, was a mistake. If it were me, I would put Schult on Barnett. That would shock everyone. -

Did anyone else see Connelly pinch Pittman on the butt in the third? That was funny. I am sure that was trash talkng at its finest. -

It is clear that Mr. Thelan wants the ball more, but that is a natural reaction from a good player who is watching his team struggle to score at other positions. To quote Boy George.......oh, never mind. -
Covington Catholic/Holy Cross Predictions 2/24
scout replied to Walter's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
I proabably will regret stepping in between KL and CCRadio, but... I think that everyone can agree that it has been more difficult for Mr. Thelan to get his points over the last few games as teams have focused their defenses on eliminating the easy shots. Mr. Thelan, to his credit, has stepped up and made some good moves inside and has put up some good shots outside (and to be fair he's also put up some ill advised shots from the outside.) As pressure has increased on Mr. Thelan, Mr. Wellbrock has 'man'ed up' done very well. The key, I belive, is how will the supporting cast play for the Colonels for the remainder of the season. Mr. Wilson plays with intensity and is not afraid to shoot (good thing!). Mr. Connelly has been shooting hot lately, but he only plays half a game (why I don't know). Those two guys have accounted for the majority of the 'non- Bread-n-Butter' points for CCH for the last two games. Someone else needs to step up, or be allowed to step up. -

Not meaning to be flip, but that is like saying "if they score more points, they might win". I don't think HC can contain BOTH guys. However, they might be able to contain one. The key to this one is getting CovCath to score from more than 5 feet from the basket AND they have to make free-throws. Question, does one ticket get you in to see both games tonight, or will they clear the gym? -

I really don't think you can call it 'peaking' when they drop out of the top ten in NKY and in the process fall behind FIVE teams they have already beaten this year. The other coaches in NKY certianly aren't giving much respect right now. -

You didn't....no really you didn't....oh, yes, yes you did go there. The real question is who is taking pictures for this game? On a serious note, is Trammel back playing? I understand he's had some back issues (surgery?) -
Covington Catholic/Mason County 2/13 Predictions
scout replied to CovCathiRadio's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Not to detour this thread, but I expect Dixie will try to get into Wellbrock's nogg'n, but I epxect them to try to beat the snot out of Thelan. Ultimately how CovCath does on Saturday will depend on how they react to Dixie on Friday. Who will play and in what role? Stepping up the outside, or relatively outside, game will take pressure off the inside. If CovCath comes out of Friday with a win and some increased confidence in some of the young men, Saturday will be a good game. If they play Friday like they did against Boone, well...... -

CovCath plays Dixie on Friday night. That should be a very physical contest. It could well have an effect on how the Colonels play on Saturday. -
