Holmes 57 Covington Catholic 41

Wellbrock hit 2 free throws with 3 seconds left in the 3rd quarter to tie the game. Holmes in bounds to Ricardo. He takes 2 steps beyond half court and with the state high jump champion in his face throws up a prayer that hits high off of the backboard and drops in. Holmes hits a quick 3 to start the 4th quarter. Cov. Cath. did not recover. Cov. Cath. had the lead most of the 1st half and hung with the dogs throughout the 3rd quarter. Holmes was lights out from beyond the arc. Notwithstanding the final score, it was a good game and very good effort by the Colonels. Ricardo is clutch.

Its why I love HOOPS. Momentum is such a key factor in this game and it seems like Rico got it going for the dogs with that huge shot to end the qtr.

This still shows that they are a team that can be beaten. The Regional Tourney should be a dandy this year.

Listened to the game on Cov Cath radio. You guys do a great job. It is very entertaining to listen to you disagree with the calls that go against Cov Cath. I was thinking these guys could be a little more balanced and objective in reacting to calls but I realize you are volunteers and are Cov Cath homers through and through. Keep up the good work. It sounded like Ricardo's three really changed the momentum of the game. Holmes I believe you said wound up 9-17 from 3 which is unreal after how they started the game shooting.

Good BullDogs! In it to win it!

NICE and ENVY comes to mind.

Good game through the first three quarters and then Holmes took over.

Ricardo Johnson's 3 at the end of the third was the game changing moment. That was the start of a 12-0 run for Holmes and the Dogs outscored CCH 20-7 in the fourth.

Chris Hayes was huge for Holmes tonight with 11 points and 3 big three's to help Holmes pull away.

Scoring by quarters:

Holmes: 8-15-14-20--57

Covcath: 13-10-11-7--41

Holmes scoring: J. Johnson 12, Hayes 11, R. Johnson 11, Pittman 11, Rice 8, Herndon 2, Slusher 2

1000 th point ceremony

Do you foresee Hayes getting to the point this year where he is able to run the point more to free up Ricardo to play his natural position?

Took a brave soul to go inside.

Holmes showed in the 4th quarter why they are the defending state champs and the favorite to win the 9th again this yr.

The difference in this game is Holmes hit 9 threes. CovCath did everything they needed to do to win and needed Holmes to be cold from outside the arc. Holding Ricardo and Pittman to 2 points combined for the first half was an incredible feat for this Colonel team. Max Pauly, you have become the calming force on this team and the best passer I've seen in a CovCath uniform. Jake Thelen should take good care of you and carry you down curbs to make sure nothing happens to you.

I have watched Max a few games this year and he is a leader out there. Whether on the floor or from the bench, he is always giving direction or positive feedback to his teammates. Keep it up Max!
