Holmes 57 Covington Catholic 41

Good effort by the Colonels but this game sounds like the typical Holmes 2009/10 game. Teams hang close and at times look like they are going to have a chance at the upset and then Holmes' talented crew takes over for a hot stretch and it's ball game. Final scores are almost always more than 10 but less than 20. This game sounds a little like the UK Florida game tonight. When it is all said and done, the talent just takes over and grabs the win.

Do you foresee Hayes getting to the point this year where he is able to run the point more to free up Ricardo to play his natural position?

Hayes ran the point a few times tonight but he is more of a 2 guard. Holmes looked best when Ricardo was bringing the ball up.

I do think that Hayes would be a better option as the #5 starter though instead of Slusher. When given the opportunity to play, Hayes has been one of Holmes most consistent scorers throughout the season outside of the Big 3.

Does anyone know why Trey Evans didn't play tonight for the Colonels?

Serious headaches. Been that way for the last week or so (did not play in the Beechwood game either and has missed school) and has been to the doctor a couple of times. He has taken test to try and find out whats wrong. Seems like last year all over, when the CovCath starting PG misses games, with a non basketball injury!

What about McClendon for Holmes? Did he play? Haven't seen much of him in the box scores but alot of folks on here led me to believe he was going to be a major contributor.

Good win for the Dawgs! Should make for a great tourney, once again.

So what does CovCath take away from the last two games for the remainder of the season? Friday they had a lackluster performance in what I would describe as an unsatisfying win. Tuesday they had a really gutsy performance against a very talented team but wound up with an empty tank in the 4th.

Maschinot and Evans didn't dress on Tuesday, Pauly looked like he was sporting quite a wound dressing over his right eye, Connelly was sucking on an inhaler throughout the game.

They've run almost as many starting line ups as games played. Guys that get virtually zero minutes in one game, play majority minutes the next. They don't seem to have settled on an offensive or defensive style. The only real consistency is the dynamic duo of Thelen/Wellbrock.

Please don't misunderstand, I am NOT trying to be critical. I am just curious where the BGP faithful thinks they'll go from here.

Much closer game, except for the start of the 4th quarter this game was even.

In the 2 games I have watch Holmes play, they live by the outside shot.

If they have a bad night shooting, they could be in trouble.

Loved the starting 5 for CovCath tonight, I think Connelly gives them a little more energy. If CovCath could become a so-so shooting team from the outside they would become a force in the regionals. They still past up alot of open shots.

Holmes made more 3's than CovCath attempted.

I would agree with you on Hayes over Slusher 100%.

Is that a Bards Burger Battle?

Is that a Bards Burger Battle?

Where is Bards? I need a good hamburger joint!

Holmes showed in the 4th quarter why they are the defending state champs and the favorite to win the 9th again this yr.

I have seen Holmes v Villa, Holmes v Newport and Holmes v CCH and it just seems to me that the defensive intensity picks up down the stretch in all of these games allowing Holmes to pull away. Teams play with them early but in the end Holmes has a gear left that others struggle to match, especially defensely.

Mcclendon played last night and has been seeing time this year.

He usually takes 2 or 3 shots a game when he gets in, but didn't take any shots last night. He is used more for depth and defensive purposes.

Is Avery still out?

Yes, Demetrius is still out.

I spoke with Sean Bohannon of Holmes at the Holy Cross game and he said Avery should be back sometime this week. I'd assume that means he'll play or atleast dress Saturday against Christian Co.

The injury occurred on the 21st of December against Ballard and he was expected to be out 3 weeks.
