Franklin County 56 Covington Catholic 53

In the best game of the day, Franklin County defeated CovCath by a score of 56/53 when CovCath missed a trey at the buzzer trying to tie the game.

It was a game of runs with FC getting off to a fast 15-0 lead before CovCath scored their first basket of the game. The first quarter ended with the score in favor of FC by 21-11.

In the second quarter CovCath chipped away at the FC lead a bit at a time but this quarter ended with CovCath being down 6 points 31/25

The third quarter found CovCath on fire and they tied the game at 33 with 5:52 left in the third quarter but then FC started another run and at one point FC got ahead by 8 points but again CovCath battled back to end the third quarter with FC leading by a score of 43/39.

The fourth found the same formula being followed as the first three quarters as FC got up again this time by as much as ten points 51-41 with 6:10 left in the game. CovCath again fought back to tie the game 52/52 with 1:33 left and in fact took the lead by 1 53/52 with :53 seconds left.

FC then went down and scored a basket to lead 54/53 after a CovCath miss Sean Thompson of FC pitching fame (btw the Crazies yelled at Thompson early in the game, that the HR that he gave up to Maile last year in Boyd County Tourney, was still in the air and hadn't landed yet) made two key free throws to put FC up by three 56/53 with 7 seconds left in the game.

Coach L had Max Pauly take the trey but he missed and the game ended with FC winning the game by a score of 56/53.

Was the only exciting game of the three I saw today.

Franklin Co is well coached. Always puts a competitive team on the court.

I got a chance to talk to Thompson after the game and he told me his arm feels great and he is looking forward to the baseball season.

FC fans, I am really glad to hear that, as I enjoyed watching the young man pitch last year! This year he needs to learn to be a pitcher, not just a thrower and if he learns that (and I think he will) Thompson will have the College and Pro scouts eating out of his hand!

Good luck to him and all the FC basketball players and thanks for coming up north to play at the BOKC!

St. Henry just killed a New Miami team by 80 something to maybe 30/40 something. If you can believe this (and BTW I asked Ben Bessler this after he was taken out with just about a minute gone in the 3rd) when was the last time St. Henry scored 50 some odd points just after half time! He just grinned and said, "I don't think ever".

In the Colerain vs SK game which I left at half time Colerain was just beating up on SK rather handily.

From what I was told, Aiken was to have played Ryle but dropped out at the last minute so PC played Ryle and New Miami was kind enough to fill in at the last second and play St. Henry.

The St. Henry and PC game would have been a good one with the contrasting style of play!

The kid with 12 for FC is Eric Meyer, younger brother of Barrett Meyer who is now at Transy. Eric was 4 for 5 from three and IMO is a better shooter than his older brother. FC needs others to be a threat to score in order to open things up for Hall. Meyer needs to step up and find a way to get more tick.

Sorry for the type-o on the name!

He indeed did burn the nets today from outside the arch but strangely (at least from my point of thinking) he didn't take another shot, other than those five.

Again sorry for the type-o!

No problem on the type-o. Just felt like he needs to get proper credit. Friday night at district foe Woodford Co. Eric caught the brunt of Woodford's student section with chants like "Barrett's better" and "you're not your brother". All in fun no doubt, but this kid doesn't need to feel like he is in his brothers shadow.

The final score to St. Henry game as 75-26. And Im pretty sure, even though it was out of hand early. St. Henry didn't score 50pts in the first half. As for St. Henry and PC style of play...not sure if you've seen St. Henry this year, but they haven't slowed down the game very much at all this season. Check with Coach L on that one.

Fastest team I've seen IS NOT HOLMES. Its Highlands. That team is faster than any group in NKY. Mike Flynn has a great group of weapons in his first year at Highlands. I don't think many teams will be able to keep up with them.

Well I have seen St. Henry twice now and if you look at the KHSAA scoreboard you would understand what I am talking about. 55. 59, 41, 42 and 76 for St. Henry vs PC 50, 62, 90, 56 and 97.

BTW as I wrote, the 50 mark was hit early in the third quarter, not at half time!

OG, how was attendance? I went last year to watch Highlands/Cov Cath, and the big matchup between Holmes and Scott Co. There was a pretty good crowd for those games. Judging by PANDA's great pics, it seemed pretty sparse this year.
