How is Western this year?

22 turnovers for CovCath probably got in Listerman's crawl but great games out of the 2 bigs Wellbrock and Thelen.

 

They were 18/26 from the field combined and the rest of the team was 6/20. I know some teams that will certainly focus on shutting down the inside game come tournament time.

No I didn't, as we left at half time. Any reason why?

Watching on internet, but appeared they felt they were getting a raw deal on fouls. Tied down the stretch and a no foul call got them angry. Only got worse from there. I take it they had a rough ride down to the tourney too.

Covcath's inside game continues to be the only real bright spot for Coach L. Guards have to take better care of the ball. Western isn't on the same level as CCH, IMO and shouldn't have been within 10 of the Colonels.

 

Should be interesting to see Thelen against Euton Friday night and Wellbrock against Jackson.

I agree with your assessment of Walter's assessment. If you did not see this game you'll never understand the constant pressure they Colonels were under. Also Trey Evans came back from illness and senior retreat and then went on to break his arm. That coupled with having Machinot out for three weeks puts the Colonels down two ball handlers leaving Max Pauly to play almost 31 minutes against that pressure coming out one time. If you did not see it, you know not of what you speak.

That is why I was asking the question. We were talking in the stands that Western's defense was probably the most aggressive constant pressure we have seen since Lex Cath. The boys for Western were very fast and closed passing lanes better than almost every team we have faced.

 

Max played an unbelievable game last night, and the other guys all contributed valuable minutes. It is a shame Trey went out with his wrist/arm after only logging a few minutes, in his first game back. I also do not know how the turnover numbers break down, but to say the the guards gave up the ball on 24 occassions is not true. Yes, they did have a number of them, but there were a number that were not from the guards.

If you look at this weeks Cantrall rankings, you would have learned that Louisville Western is ranked at 67.1 while CovCath is ranked at 70.1.

 

If not for the trey that Western hit at the end of the game (note; CovCath didn't guard the shooter very well, as they didn't want to give up the basket and the + one) then CovCath wins by seven.

 

Really made no sense to me at least, that Western allowed so much time to run off the clock before even trying to hit that last shot?

 

BTW with how much Wellbrock and Thelen completely controlled the paint area surrounding the basket, why do anything else but feed your big men! If CovCath doesn't do that, then somebody on here would have screamed, why didn't you allow your big men to shoot more. How does it go, dammed if you do, dammed if you don't!

 

CovCath will be the huge, huge underdog Friday night going up against Scott County, but you never, never know, as I have seen stranger things happen before but not at Scott County! :lol:

So you think Covcath is only 4 points better than a 7-6 Western team that lost to Iroquois by 28?

 

I've seen Covcath several times this year and with Thelen and Wellbrock inside, it's just my opinion that they should have beaten Western by more than 4.

 

Guard play has been a weak spot for the Colonels the whole year and while I'm sure they didn't have all 24 turnovers, that's still a lot of turnovers.

 

I realize Western pressed the whole game and that's going to lead to turnovers but I guess I just have higher expectations for the Colonels based on the few times I've seen them. It's actually a compliment to the CCH program. I'm not trying to be negative at all.

How can Brett Reidinger not be getting more playing time? Scored 8 points in 3 minutes going 2 for 2 from the three and 2 of 2 on free throws - third leading scorer behind Thelen and Wellbrock (3 pt shot in 2nd qtr & 3 pt shot and 2 of 2 from foul line in the 4th qtr). Look at the stats from last night's game. Also I think he was the second leading scorer in the Montgomery County game last Friday scoring 12 pts in roughly 10 minutes or so (3 of 6 fg and 3 of 3 ft).
