So you think Covcath is only 4 points better than a 7-6 Western team that lost to Iroquois by 28?

I've seen Covcath several times this year and with Thelen and Wellbrock inside, it's just my opinion that they should have beaten Western by more than 4.

 

Guard play has been a weak spot for the Colonels the whole year and while I'm sure they didn't have all 24 turnovers, that's still a lot of turnovers.

 

I realize Western pressed the whole game and that's going to lead to turnovers but I guess I just have higher expectations for the Colonels based on the few times I've seen them. It's actually a compliment to the CCH program. I'm not trying to be negative at all.

 

Without having seen Western play, I would think you are making too much of 1 game on Western's schedule.

 

They also lost to Louisville X by nine point, 65 - 56 in the LIT. Louisville X beat CovCath this year by six points, 55 - 49.

 

Looking at those scores, I would think CovCath is about 3 points better than Western. But it's really about matchups, and it sounds like CovCath's inside game was a little better than Western's outside play.

That is what the the sports medicine folks at Scott HS think. He either went to the Doctors/St. E's last night or this morning!

I understand he has broken his arm by the wrist like 4 or 5 times now. Seems like his dad was pretty sure it was broken. I agree it sure looked like he was in a lot of pain initially as well. Hopefully he will be able to come back before his senior season is over.

How can Brett Reidinger not be getting more playing time? Scored 8 points in 3 minutes going 2 for 2 from the three and 2 of 2 on free throws - third leading scorer behind Thelen and Wellbrock (3 pt shot in 2nd qtr & 3 pt shot and 2 of 2 from foul line in the 4th qtr). Look at the stats from last night's game. Also I think he was the second leading scorer in the Montgomery County game last Friday scoring 12 pts in roughly 10 minutes or so (3 of 6 fg and 3 of 3 ft).

 

I think what keeps Brett from getting more playing time is he is not as strong or fast as some of the other guys, and he gets in trouble when the other teams really press him. There is absolutely no doubt he is the best shooter on the team, and they could really use his points.

 

The thing I love about Brett is - he knows his role - he accepts it, and comes in for as long or as short of a time as asked. No signs of frustrations or anything. Some of the others on the team need to learn to do this same thing.

I do not know anything in all honesty about Western, their record, players, etc, except for what I saw last night. But, I can tell you that the way they played last night, they had as much of a chance to win this game as did the colonels. And even though the Colonels had those turnovers, IMO they played one of the best games they have played all year. That is what is so good about the game of basketball - every team can win any game on any night - you just never know. Heck even Cov Cath only lost to the state runner-up Louisville Central team in this same tournament last year by 2!

 

As far as the turnovers, yes, 24 is too many, and even the guards had too many, but according to the stats they accounted for 11 of the 24. 11 sounds mich better than 24 for guards for a game

You know, this is obviously going to be a very tough, tough task. The most important thing they have to do though IMO is not be in such awe of the Cards. That is probably my biggest fear going into this game, and that is that the Colonels have already admitted and accepted defeat before the ball is even tossed in the air! At least if they can get past this, they have a chance, maybe not a good one, but a chance.

You know you really spend a lot of time trying to convince everyone that you know what you're talking about....that is until you try to describe a game you did not see against a team you've never seen. Play that "they lost by this many and they lost by that many" game all you want. You have no clue at all as to how that game went down. One more thing, in all your infinite wisdom, why don't you explain to me why Holmes was in a one point game at half time against Villa and Beechwood. Games that I actaully saw and could comment on if I so choose.

That's a misconception that is hurting Brett. He probably has the fewest turnovers on the team per minutes played compared to the other guards. I can't remember hardly any.

He had one last night in three minutes of play according to the stats, and I actually think he had another one when he was trapped on the sideline, but i like Brett don't get me wrong, I may not love him as much as you, but I do like him. He is the one shooter on the team. But I have witnessed in many of the JV games, and in the varsity, that he struggles with the half court traps and pressure defense, more than the other guards. I think that keeps him off the floor more. He does not throw the ball away as often as some of the other guys, but I think that is because he is a shooter first, and assist guy second. Again, nothing wrong with that. That is his role and he seems to accept that. The other guards, I think that is part of their problem. They try to pass too much sometimes. That gets them in trouble. Of course, all of this is IMO

Getting old yes, but I know my stats. The Enquirer has him with 3 turnovers in 50 minutes of play. That's what I mean, you thought he had many more than that and it's just not true. It's a misconception.
