  1. Not to detour this thread, but I expect Dixie will try to get into Wellbrock's nogg'n, but I epxect them to try to beat the snot out of Thelan. Ultimately how CovCath does on Saturday will depend on how they react to Dixie on Friday. Who will play and in what role? Stepping up the outside, or relatively outside, game will take pressure off the inside. If CovCath comes out of Friday with a win and some increased confidence in some of the young men, Saturday will be a good game. If they play Friday like they did against Boone, well......
  2. CovCath plays Dixie on Friday night. That should be a very physical contest. It could well have an effect on how the Colonels play on Saturday.
  3. Me? Me? No, never. No really, I mean it. Never too hard.
  4. Given the number of ankle injuries that CovCath has had this year, I hope not!!! KingLouie had some pretty good observations on CovCath after Tuesdays loss to Scott. It will be interesting to see if CovCath can settle some of those issues before the regular season ends.
  5. I agree with you. Smith has a chance to do what Gabbard did to CovCath, PLUS he has a better outside shot. Someone has got to shut him down. It will also be interesting to see how many crazies show up tonight. The last game was a week ago and it was not a pretty one.
  6. I agree with your point, but then those kids have to score. Schult appears to be confident enough to put the ball up from anywhere ( and that is not a bad thing!). Connelly needs to either drive or shoot a little bit more. The same could be said for a bunch of those kids last night. The one guy who was shooting from outside was Heimbrock and it seemed they yanked him whenever he got hot.
  7. If you listen, there is a collective groan in the stands at the end of each period when this happens. The groan can be heard above the noise of the crazies. Is that the coaches lack confidence that their defense can hold for a few seconds? That is the only plausible explanation I can come up with.
  8. So King, knowing that they were down two guards with another on a ventilator, what did CovCath do to change their game plan? It didn't look like they attempted to make any adjustments. Teams, especially ones as long and deep as Boone, are simply not going to allow CovCath to dish it up to Thelen & Wellbrock without a challenge. Panda, I agree that Connelly adds some fire, but he needs to focus some of that fire on the offensive end of the court. The coach is either telling him to or letting him spend way too much time north of the free throw line. This game also showed that the Colonels need to hit the weight room much harder. They had way too many balls ripped from their hands. Gabbard looked like Adonis compared to some of the Colonels.
  9. The only bright spot in this game for CovCath was Andrew Schult's performance off the bench. To the best of my knowledge this was the earliest he's made an appearance in a varsity game this year and he came in with a fire and intensity that was lacking. While not always the most polished player, he gives this team something that it needs, no-fear, all-or-nothing intensity. The rest of the game for CovCath was pretty much a giant soup sandwich.
  10. Clint is tough as nails. I for one would like see what he can do at the Varsity level. I hope that CovCath comes out and plays to WIN the game. Too often this year, it looks like they are playing not to lose.
  11. So what does Cov Cath do to play with Scott County? Evans broke his arm? If true that is terrible news.
  12. The vocal fan in the blue shirt doesn't even have a kid on the team. She said she just loves the school and kids so much she made the four hour drive to watch them play. She told some stories of some kids in the CC athletic program who are overcoming some pretty large obstacles at a very young age. With adults like her supporting them, those kids will be fine.
  13. Alot has been made about CovCath playing Jrs on JV. Schulte is getting a ton of good experience that is going to pay off in spades next year for him and the team at the varisty level. I am sure if someone gave him a choice he'd rather play varisty, but the time he is getting now is only going make him that much better.
  14. So what does CovCath take away from the last two games for the remainder of the season? Friday they had a lackluster performance in what I would describe as an unsatisfying win. Tuesday they had a really gutsy performance against a very talented team but wound up with an empty tank in the 4th. Maschinot and Evans didn't dress on Tuesday, Pauly looked like he was sporting quite a wound dressing over his right eye, Connelly was sucking on an inhaler throughout the game. They've run almost as many starting line ups as games played. Guys that get virtually zero minutes in one game, play majority minutes the next. They don't seem to have settled on an offensive or defensive style. The only real consistency is the dynamic duo of Thelen/Wellbrock. Please don't misunderstand, I am NOT trying to be critical. I am just curious where the BGP faithful thinks they'll go from here.
  15. Spoken like a battle weary war veteran.
  16. I predict you better get there early to get a decent seat. If the Colonels a) don't get sloppy with the ball, as they have shown can do; and b) don't try to play a half court game, they'll open an eight point lead by half and keep it. Highlands will beat on Thelen as hard as they can, but I think Wellbrock will step up. CovCath's biggest danger is to try and play a half court game. It goes completely against their strengths.
  17. Not going too far out on the limb on this one are you.
  18. Is someone broadcasting this game over the 'net?
  19. paNDA, you love those gyms with the elevated vantage points. Great pictures. You were missed at the CovCath / Campbell Cty game. Great article about Catie A. in the Enquirer today. What a great competitor.
  20. His sister (there are triplets) is an amazingly entertaining basketball player for NDA. Very cool under pressure. Both Alex and Will have done fantastic jobs as Seniors leading the Crazies. Great kids, all three.
  21. King L. I think we're on the same page. I would hope the kids stand up for themselves in the face of something like this. I've never had to tell my kids to stand up for themselves. Believe me, I've had to warn my kids not to take it too far. My point is that coaches should create an atmosphere where that behavior is unacceptable, especially for a really talented kid
  22. It strikes me as very odd that we are discussing how hard of a foul a player should deliver in retaliation for a low class move (you can call it what you want but everyone is speaking of a retaliatory move). The reality is that it is up to the coaches to coach these young men on sportsmanship as well as on basketball. Not a player on that court last night is going to make a single dime playing basketball for a living, but everyone one of them is going to use the lessons they learned on winning, losing, and playing their role in a team effort. That is what is important. If you think I am beating this one to death, I am. I hate to see high school kids act like NBA thugs. I would be disappointed even if that happened to Highlands home court. As for avoiding discussion of the game, it looks to me like there was a pretty open and thorough discussion of highs and lows of the game.
  23. Really? Doesn't show. (wink, wink)
