I thought having the Stealth Bomber fly over during pre-game warm-ups was a nice tocuh too. Who knew the Park Hills Mafia had such connections! Good game for the Colonels.

With a football offer on the table, will Trevon Brown even play this year? How many of the guys on the original post's list also play football? Giesler, Connelly, Pike, Brown????

A ton of positives for CovCath in this one. 1) The coaches did a great job of easing Bir into the game. They gave him a chance to build confidence and you could see it build from the stands. 2) The hits kept coming. You always have some kids who will hit, but in the past three years I have not seen CovCath hit as a team like they did last night. 3) O-line did a wonderful job. The big guys deserve a lot of credit for coming back big. 4) Slabaugh was a monster. He was one of the very few highlights from Ryle, but last night he was the spark that got the fire going. 5) Speical teams has been a liability for CovCath in the past couple of years. No more. Kicking, coverage, and returns are now a weapon. 6) Defense had a great game. How many times did the LC punter have to stand in his own end zone in the first half? 7) Love the half back pass. The running game set that one up perfectly.

Count me a member of the Travis Connor fan club. He never gets too excited and is intimidated by no one. He, RItter, and Cosby make a very nice trio back there.

You are spot on. I said that for CovCath to do well they were going to have to a) tackle and b) establish the run. They did neither and lost. To me the biggest suprise was the lack of a passing game by CovCath. Looking at the Cooper scrimmage I would have expected them to be able to throw deeper against Ryle. Oh, and Ryle deserves credit. They do have a good team. Anyone at the game saw the power of their rushing offense. We didn't get to see too much of their defense nor passing offense (They didn't need either in Firday's beat down.)

Dixie needs to play Pike only on offense this year. If they need him both ways next year, fine. Forget the games, which you really can't, the real advantage I believe is allowing him to concentrate his full attention on the QB position during practices. Give him a chance to learn to be a quarterback. He made a couple of pretty bad mistakes that his receivers dug him out of last night. It was impressive to watch NCC stay with it. Those boys never stopped thinking they could win that game.

CovCath never challenged Ryle's defense. They did not attempt a pass longer than 10 yards Their backs ran hard, but the plays were so unimaginiative that Ryle was never surprised. Highlands is reallly going to challenge Ryle's defense.

Prohibitive? Why prohibitive? Seriously, the keys for CovCath will 1) tackling; and 2) establishing the running game. If they can do those, they can win. During the Cooper scrimmage, they tackled better as the scrimmage wore on. They never really seemed to try to show off the run game too much. I've heard that Ryle's O line is banged up. Is that the case? I also heard that Dixie only threw to two receivers and did so successfully. CovCath used four receivers and a back successfully at Cooper.

If you look at Mr. Roo's nine posts, he is a very negative fellow. His negativity seems to be wide spread. So, Mr. B (etc), I would say you are correct.

What was the format for the scrimmage? Regular game, or something different?

Are you sure? I thought the only teams playing 7 v 7 were Highlands and Simon Kenton.

Any updates on CovCath after one week of practice. Suprises, disappointments, highlights, lowlights?

Now that it is over, any assesment of the Colonels for the summer? I didn't see a game. What happened at PG? What's the word on upcoming seniors? Any idea on starting five?

Great job ladies. This is the result of talent and a great deal of hard work. All of these teams are very well coached too.

Dominating performance by those girls. Central girls were very tough this year unless you were there it is easy to miss how really impressive the Highlands girls were in this meet.

I did forget two highlights: CovCath's Ryan Cahill and Cubby Connelly are back-to-back Regional champs in the triple jump and high jump, respectively My heart goes out the Western Hills 4x400 relay team. They were putting up a great race battling for the second place slot when the anchor runner's hand hit another runner in the pack and it sent the baton flying into the infield. Again, great job Harrison County.

The facilities, organization, and people of Harrison County were top notch. They put on a great meet. Every running event started exactly on time!! Now we can just work on getting a four lane road from I-75.... Very impressive performance by the girls from Highlands and the boys from CovCath. Very strong teams that seem to be peaking at the right time. Just a few of the highlights: 1) paNDA on site with camera. You know it is going to be a great day. 2) Lloyds lady discuss thrower. Great job. Lashawn Ford ? 3) Lloyd's girls 3200 meter winner. Torey Duncan 4) Lloyd's Boys pole vaulter. Charles Johnson 5) CovCath's Steven Rhue sets a PR in the hight jump and qualifies for state 6)Western Hills boys discuss thrower 7) CovCath 4x100 and 4x400 relays. 8) Collinsworth from Highlands girls is a stud. Their boys team needs her running for them 9)Erpenbeck & Deglow from CovCath qualifiing for state. And the most inspired performance of the day was actually caught by paNDA's all seeing eye. 10) CovCath's hero of the 2009 State Meet, Mr. Paul Cusick falling at the end of the 300m hurdles and having the presence of mind to get up, finish, and still have a decent time. King Louie, I did not see you there but I do hope you'll be able to make the meet on Thursday.

KL: I know some young men are still nursing injuries, but I have no idea why a complete team was not fielded. I heard some raise this question at the track. I have to say, however, I don't think it would have made a difference on Saturday. I don't think CovCath could have made up the 11 point defict. Maschinott jumping would have helped. I just hope he's back for Regionals

Oh and Campbell County came in first for both boys and girls teams. Very impressive performance. They have two very stong teams. They are very well coached and it shows. Their runners, even some of the 'B' relay teams they fielded today had some very smooth strides. I saw four very impressive performances today: 1) Cooper's 4x400 boy's team. Very strong. 2) CovCath's 4x100 team. Great effort, smooth hand-offs 3) Mr. Bessler, of course 4) Simon Kenton's heavy weight 4x100 team. Their big guys were putting on a show. Nice speed for the big guys. Bonus performance pick: The young lady who ran the 3200 for Llyod was impressive too. All in all a great day for NKY Track and Fiield.
