I find it interesting that Arizona has split their 4A and 5A into two divisions. Maybe thats an idea for our 4A and 1A problem with so much size problem between the lowest and high populations.

Instead of making an entire 6A program, maybe just two divsions in those two classes.

Just a thought.

I am currently working on a complete list of championship game results from each state.

I am going to post my research once the state finals in Texas are complete in TWO weeks. I will have the championship results in each class, the team mascot for both teams in each championship game AND the records too.

My post will be a little more in-depth than this one but this was nice to see someone else on here wanted to post results from across the country.

Some selected states and the number of private-school state champs (not counting 6-man and 8-man football) ...

Alabama ... 1 of 6

Florida ... 3 of 4 (smaller classes, bigger classes play this weekend and one of them involves a private school)

Georgia ... 0 of 5

Illinois ... 3 of 8

Indiana ... 0 of 5

Kentucky ... 3 of 4

Missouri ... 1 of 6

Ohio ... 3 of 6

Didn't count Tennessee, Mississippi and Texas because they have separate divisions (and or entire organizations) for private schools.

Class 3A: Harlan

Class 2A: Sigourney-Keota

Class 1A: Iowa City Regina

Class A: North Mahaska

Harlan caught my eye, check these guys out they are amazing, the Iowa version of Beechwood in the 90's. Check out their coach, 301 wins in just 28 seasons with a winning percentage of .906!

A cut above: Harlan wins Class 3-A championship

It's a familiar position for No. 1 Cyclones, who win their third straight title.

Cedar Falls, Ia. — The Harlan football Cyclones won their state-leading 74th playoff game.

Harlan (13-0) has appeared in the championship game a record 19 times, and 10 times in the past 14 seasons.

The Cyclones state-leading win streak moved to 39 games — tied for fourth-longest all-time.

"If you lose then you go down in Harlan football (history) as the team that lost," Bieker said. "There's a little bit of pressure there, but it's about having fun, mostly."

West Delaware seemed poised to spoil the Cyclones' enjoyment early, taking a 6-0 lead in the first quarter on a one-yard plunge by running back Alex Bloom.

But missed chances followed the Hawks' early success.

West Delaware (12-1) amassed 202 yards in the first half, but trailed, 13-6, at halftime. The Hawks turned the ball over three times — once on an interception by Jonathon Davis in the end zone — and were 1-for-3 in red zone scoring chances before the break.

"We knew those (turnovers) were going to be a big factor," said the Hawks' Zach McCool, who caught a team-high three passes for 40 yards.

Bloom paced the Hawks with 140 yards rushing and two touchdowns. West Delaware pulled within 27-13 late in the third quarter, but was limited to 86 total yards in the second half.

"We knew West Delaware was going to be tougher than a boot and they were," said Harlan coach Curt Bladt, who improved to 301-30 (.906%) in his 28 year career.

Harlan's offense toughened in the second half, gaining 209 of its 335 total yards. Mark Blum led the Cyclones with 153 yards and three touchdowns on 18 carries. He finished the season with 38 rushing touchdowns. Doran ended up with 18 touchdown passes and just four interceptions.

"We had so many people on offense that could do stuff with the ball, so many weapons," said Doran, who was 26-0 as a starter. "My job was easy."

Less easy: Another championship. Another date with a razor. Another season for Bladt, who battled an immune system disease before coming back to coach his 28th season.

"It's been a tough go," said Bladt, who has coached Harlan to 10 of its 11 titles. "The kids have battled every game and we haven't always brought the best game to the plate, but when the going got tough we were able to perform."
