I thought Dixie was going to be the 2nd or 3rd best team in NKy this year.. Boy was I wrong!! I guess there is not enough "talent" at Dixie to win? I feel really bad for Tom. For him to be at a 6a school and have no talent that has to be frustrating.. To be the head coach for 17yrs and have no talent year after year has to really wear on you..I don't know how he comes back year after year..It's a shame to have that beautiful facility and not have the talent to put on it..Is there anyone else that feels bad for Tom like I do???? I know JOAT and Stinky do..How many others???

Impressive showing by the Birds. Receivers were running free all night and Towles kept finding them and putting the ball on the money. As usual, speed everywhere for Highlands and they play at a fast pace.

 

Dixie ... I had big doubts about them because of line play questions. Skills player wise - Dixie has as talented a crew as anyone. Pike, Bruns, Cohorn, Justice - they can play for any team any where including the Birds and would be stars. Dixie is not getting it done up front on either side of the ball and that leads to ugliness like the last 3 weeks. If the skills players stay healthy, Dixie will still win games because they have that much talent in the skills positions. Dixie's season is on the line (pun intended) the next two weeks.

Enough talent that they were picked to walk through NKY 6A and be ranked in the top 10 in the state in all of the preseason polls.

 

Just like Highlands would be picked in the top 5 each and every year in whatever class they are playing in no matter what talent level they had. Those pre-season rankings mean absolutely nothing until the pads go on and the games start being played. Statewide, Dixie is still being recognized for its victory over Trinity a few years ago plain and simple. They have very few athletes to begin with and two of them were hobbling in warmups.

The offensive line last night was the catalysis last night. They gave Towles time to throw.

The Green kid is going to a good one.

Carter New probably played himself into a scholarship offer last night. UC was very impressed with him.

Sheehan is catching balls in traffic, which spells big time trouble for the defense. Nice shoes by the way.

David Christian's catch was the best play of the game and maybe for the year!

 

It starts right there. The O Line was stout last night giving Towles all day to throw. The receiving corp is so deep this year and it shows in the stat sheet. Someone mentioned Patrick completed passes to 9 different receivers in the 1st half alone. Houliston throws a nice ball. Enjoyed seeing Patrick cheering on #10 from the sideline in the 2nd half.

 

Completely agree re: Carter New. He's blossomed into a top notch corner who can cover with the best of them. He can stick it too.

Thirty or so students and some parents. Sounds like no one out there was buying the hype. The thing that's missing is traction. They've been spinning their wheels since the Trinity win.

Possibly, but Weinrich would have adjusted the D play calls, and there would have been more LB support against the run than was needed otherwise.

To be fair if your starting QB is bound for Auburn you should be doing a little more than competing in the NKY 6A district.

 

Will be shocked if he winds up signing with Auburn.

Seriously? Were you at the game? Dixie has very little talent outside of a select few. It is very obvious to me that Dixie is the opposite of Highlands in that their athletes play baseball and basketball rather than being dedicated to football. I get so sick of reading on here every week how Tom Spritzky cannot coach. If Tom Spritzky coached Highlands tonight and Dale coached Dixie tonight, Highlands would have still won. You have to have talent to win consistently and have kids that are dedicated to the football program. There are many like yourself that try to compare Highlands to Dixie and some other schools and to be honest it is like comparing apples to oranges. I will close by asking if you know what Dixie's record was in basketball and baseball last year and what Highlands records were and then think about the statment that you made.

 

While I respect, appreciate and understand your support of Tom (he's a great guy from a great Ft. Thomas family) I seriously doubt Dixie's problems last night were caused by the type of athletes giving up football to play baseball and basketball at Dixie. Dixie has the skilled players on the team to be very good this year. It's their line play that needs improvement and I can't recall many kids on Dixie's basketball or baseball teams that would help improve their lines. If you know of some, then I'm obviously wrong and I apologize.

 

Capable and adequate o linemen and d linemen can be developed, as Highlands has proven year in and year out. That to me is where Dixie is failing. I don't know so I won't say if that's a coaching problem or a player problem. The coaches have to know how to do it and the kids have to want to do it. If either of those two is not present, it doesn't happen. If you watch the game replay (I assume they'll show it again) pay particular attention to the footspeed of the linemen of both teams. Highlands' coaches put a lot, and I mean a whole lot, of time improving the footspeed of their linemen because such is so critical to both pass blocking and run blocking, but particularly pass blocking because the block has to be maintained so long. The Highlands coaches know how to develop that skill. The Highlands kids because they are so dedicated to improving, work very hard in the drills and they improve dramatically. Both parts of the equation are present and hence Pat got a lot of time to pass and Zeke got very little. Again, I'm not close enough to the Dixie program to know which part of the equation is missing there. But something is missing and hence the talent in the lineplay is not being developed. And in my opinion, that, more than kids choosing basketball and/or baseball, is the cause of Dixie's woes.

Really? In spite of Dixie's struggles this year so far, Pike is a flat out talented QB. People keep forgetting his performance in the Elite 11 and the fact that the judges of that event are some of the most knowledgeable people in the game. The kid will be able to play D-1 football at the highest level. The Auburn coaches didn't make their assessment of him based on his high school QBing performance (heck, he had a ton of offers before he started one varsity game as a QB) and I serously doubt they'll pull their offer if that's what you meant or were implying based on his high school performance this year.

Voters saw a D1 qb and lost their minds. They have a few quality players and then it goes downhill quickly. You can't win without talent and depth.
