I missed the 1st qtr. HHS certainly went to the air a lot. At the end of the 2nd period, with less than 3 min to go, there were no points scored, yet five possession changes. Bird move quickly down field through the air and then turn in over. Dixie quickly goes three and a pooch punt.

 

Bruns breaks the scoring drought with a nice punt return to start the 3rd, but honestly, I'd rather see him catch the punt on the fly, then have him recover his own fumble, even if he does break it.

 

No question about it, Highlands D is really tough.

 

HHS 2's put on their version of a passing clinic when they entered the game midway thru the 3rd.

 

One thing is clear. The Blue Colonels & Bluebirds are on a collision course.

I feel sorry for Dixie, they have as much talent as anyone around but they are very poorly coached. If Dale Mueller was at Dixie they'd be a state championship team. Towles not only appeared to be the better passer but he also looks faster than Pike while running. Towles will end up with a much better offer than KY IMO.

 

I agree with you after seeing both tonight. If Pike can't hurt you on the ground he loses his edge. Sort of like Morgan Newton. Sure he could run while at Carmel but Carmel isn't playing SEC speed. Both have a long way to go but at this point I think Towles is ahead of Pike and he has a bigger upside.

Why not, they have a QB going to Auburn for God's sake, a very good running back and WR. As you said they'd be in shape, they wouldn't have guys on special teams that refuse to block anyone or keep their responsibilities. I also know that they're O-line wouldn't block as poorly as they did tonight. Dixie has a lot of talent, probably more so year in and year out than every other team in Northern Kentucky not named HHS they just get nothing out of it. If you don't think a coach like Mueller would take the talent they have and they advantage of open enrollment in Kenton county and make them a yearly state championship contender then you don't know much about football.

Sorry to see so much bashing in the posts. Dixie will improve and compete in NKY 6A. You gotta applaud NCC, CCH & HHS for winning big over Dixie. At this stage, each of these three remain unbeaten.

Agreed for the most part, but when he did, his passes were dreadful. The interception New picked off in the 2nd was underthrown by 5 yards.

If Pike plays on highlands he would succeed just as much as towels does. He doesnt have time to throw nor receivers to catch minus Cohorn.

 

No way....Towles is much more polished and accurate. I'd take Towles in a heartbeat.

Still think pike is overated, really don't think he will play much in the SEC. Cohorn has decent hands but slow feet.

Agreed Cohorn and Bruns were not their typical self. The announcers on TV mentioned injuries to both early in the game...Bruns was more of a injury from last week.

True, I'll give him that. But still the throws he makes in tough situations that go for int's are the one's he needs to throw away. I thought he would've learned after last years nc game.

 

I think alot of that's a maturity thing. He's thinking like a competitor and not like a coach. Some of the best QB's are the one's that can play the game like chess and know that as bad as it is at that point simply throwing the ball away isn't going to put points on the board for the other team. I really can't fault the kid because I completely understand his intentions/desire to win but at the end of the day he'd probably have been more happy with a few throw aways rather than a few INT's.

He might have been able to do something with past teams, but nothing on this team suggests potential state champ to me. Especially in 6A! Highlands is a lot more than just Dale as the head coach. The junior football league and the tradition also have a large hand in this. I won't take a shot at your football knowledge because everyone knows that no team in NKY has more of a football tradition than Campbell County. Except Scott. Maybe Simon Kenton. Pendleton County.:idunno:

I wouldn't get too excited. It's a long season and Highlands is ONE injury away from being very beatable.
