I missed the 1st qtr. HHS certainly went to the air a lot. At the end of the 2nd period, with less than 3 min to go, there were no points scored, yet five possession changes. Bird move quickly down field through the air and then turn in over. Dixie quickly goes three and a pooch punt.

 

Bruns breaks the scoring drought with a nice punt return to start the 3rd, but honestly, I'd rather see him catch the punt on the fly, then have him recover his own fumble, even if he does break it.

 

No question about it, Highlands D is really tough.

 

HHS 2's put on their version of a passing clinic when they entered the game midway thru the 3rd.

 

One thing is clear. The Blue Colonels & Bluebirds are on a collision course.

Towles not only appeared to be the better passer but he also looks faster than Pike while running. Towles will end up with a much better offer than KY IMO.

 

I just got back from the game and reading this thread and not the game updates .

 

I would like to say hats off to the players of both teams .I was miserable sitting in the stands with the heat and humidity , I can imagin going all out on every play in pads. The Dixie players played hard and never gave up . I hope # 55 is ok for Dixie , he left the game in a lot of pain in the shoulder / collar bone area .

 

I sat through the whole game thinking something was missing .I thought about it on the way home and still can't figure it out . What I did notice in the second quarter , after Dixie had scored to make the score 14-7 , ther was no emotion shown by the players , bench , coaches or even most of the fans. Dixie didn't bring many fans with them , which really surprised me.

 

Now the head to head QB comparison , in all fairness to Pike , this is the only time I have seen him play QB .It looks like Pike has an average arm for a kid that size , and due to the coaches play selection , most of his passes were thrown east and west rather than north and south. Most passes were swing routes to the backs coming out of the backfield or short crossing patterns less than 10 yards deep to the wide recievers . When Pike ran the ball he did look a step slower than Towles. Both teams had lots of dropped passes by open recievers but I think Dixie had more. I don't remember the exact amount of Dixies long passes over twenty yards weather they were completed or not. I was kind of impressed with Pikes punts , seem like they had good distance and hang time.

 

The Birds D was laying the wood , no doubt about it , and everyone was involved. Carter New has a nose for the ball and reminds me of another shut down corner named AC . Two picks for New and came real close to picking two more , Devon Bruns was a man amoung boys on the d-line , great game young man ! Drake Bruns was all over the field , and when he hits you , your hit.

 

The Birds O looked good ,but not great , still need to work on somethings , which I will not elaborate . Zach Harris has some great moves when he gets to the open field , and is a strong runner when he hits the line .

 

No disrespect to you , your coaches or your program , but it is lacking something , what , I don't know . Maybe someone from Dixie's program can tell us what ?

To Cohorn's defense, He came into this game with a bad groin pull during practice I heard on Tuesday. And it showed tonight. I heard it got worse during the first half. I noticed he wasn't cutting like normal on his routes. That kid is definately not slow. And Brun's leg had Ice on it. Don't know what's going on with that. Kudos to them two for trying to go tonight. Highlands is definately explosive on offense, and the Dixie coaching is just downright horrible. The athletes they have on the sideline is just crazy.

 

If you think 4.9 40 speed is fast for a wide receiver then by all means he's not slow. Come on.

Things have went nowhere but south for Dixie over the past three weeks. I still believe they should do good in their district play; only problem is that they won't advance far past it, and that is ONLY if they do good enough in district play. My thoughts about them being able to play with Scott County and plenty others outside of NKY 6A are very limited. It's already crystal that they won't contend with any of the bigs out of Louisville.

If Mueller was at Dixie as long as Spritzky has been I believe they'd have won a state title. Obviously just speculation and opinion but I believe it to be true.

Seriously? Were you at the game? Dixie has very little talent outside of a select few. It is very obvious to me that Dixie is the opposite of Highlands in that their athletes play baseball and basketball rather than being dedicated to football. I get so sick of reading on here every week how Tom Spritzky cannot coach. If Tom Spritzky coached Highlands tonight and Dale coached Dixie tonight, Highlands would have still won. You have to have talent to win consistently and have kids that are dedicated to the football program. There are many like yourself that try to compare Highlands to Dixie and some other schools and to be honest it is like comparing apples to oranges. I will close by asking if you know what Dixie's record was in basketball and baseball last year and what Highlands records were and then think about the statment that you made.

I very seriously doubt he runs a 4.9 40. If I recall, scout has him timed at 4.68. Where you get your info from and where I get mine is definately not the same sources. He might have been running a 4.9 tonight with a pulled groin

Thirty or so students and some parents. Sounds like no one out there was buying the hype. The thing that's missing is traction. They've been spinning their wheels since the Trinity win.

I'm guessing Highlands wanted to work on their passing game tonight. I think the score would've been much worse if they ran the ball a little more. Towles just threw it up, and the receivers ran right under it. He looked very good.

 

Dixie looked extremely bad tonight. When 6 guys cannot block 3, you know you're in for a long night. All Highlands had to do was drop 8 and rush 3. It left all the receivers covered and Pike running for his life. Their punt from the shotgun thing is horrible. Yeah, if your in a position to make the opposition think you might go for it, use Pike in the shotgun and pooch it. However, when it's 4th and long around midfield or deeper, you're not going to trick anyone. Just line up in a regular formation and let Pike put everything he has in it (and kick it out of bounds). Defensively, the 3 man front gets no pressure, thus leaving the DBs having to cover receivers for an extremely long time. They cannot tackle as they don't wrap up. And how many offsides can a team get called for?

I have said for the last few years when Pike was blowing up on here, his size/athleticism got him the big boost in ranking. He has a lot of work to do in order to become a great QB, but he does have the upside. He just isn't super polished, Towels is polished.

 

How about the young QB for Highlands, he looks to be yet another good one. He has a nice arm, mobile and very poised for a pup. I would start him varsity for most schools in KY.

I agree with your point about more players being dedicated to one sport; it definitely makes a huge difference.
