Listened to Towles in the post-game interview witht he Fox Sports people. Seems like a really good kid, who said all the right things.

 

The commentators mentioned several times in the post game that Pike just doesn't have much around him.

 

Fox Sports stats had Highlands with more than 550 yards passing and more than 700 total yards. Dixie had 106 passing yards according to their stats.

Dixie seemed like a 1st round playoff team that's 0-10. Not surprised by the lack of challenge from their D-Line.

Why not, they have a QB going to Auburn for God's sake, a very good running back and WR. As you said they'd be in shape, they wouldn't have guys on special teams that refuse to block anyone or keep their responsibilities. I also know that they're O-line wouldn't block as poorly as they did tonight. Dixie has a lot of talent, probably more so year in and year out than every other team in Northern Kentucky not named HHS they just get nothing out of it. If you don't think a coach like Mueller would take the talent they have and they advantage of open enrollment in Kenton county and make them a yearly state championship contender then you don't know much about football.

 

Dixie plain and simple does not have the talent. You look up and down their roster and show me where they have anywhere near the talent of Highlands or Cov Cath. It is just not there. This was plain and simple a better team winning the game. Dixie is not deep nor do they have the talent.

I feel sorry for Dixie, they have as much talent as anyone around but they are very poorly coached. If Dale Mueller was at Dixie they'd be a state championship team. Towles not only appeared to be the better passer but he also looks faster than Pike while running. Towles will end up with a much better offer than KY IMO.

I know they'd lost a couple games coming in to last night, but not a good reflection on the state of their program.

Put the Dixie kids in Highlands' program for three years & see how talented they are come their senior season. Not saying God-given talent isn't a factor, but year-in, year-out, its the program that wins.

 

Last: Dixie is 6A. They should be able to put good teams together in the three major boys sports without any one negatively impacting the others to any significant degree. The success of Dixie's baseball program has not caused the football team to open the season 0-3.

This is so true. You do not see the younger talent being developed to feed the High School football program. The overall numbers seemed to be there but something is missing in the development of the younger players.

The offensive line last night was the catalysis last night. They gave Towles time to throw.

The Green kid is going to a good one.

Carter New probably played himself into a scholarship offer last night. UC was very impressed with him.

Sheehan is catching balls in traffic, which spells big time trouble for the defense. Nice shoes by the way.

David Christian's catch was the best play of the game and maybe for the year!

Very true my friend; very true. Although I think the outcome of this game was determined by the Birds coming out extremely focused and playing to their abilities. If the Birds do that each game, I think they have a great shot for 5 in a row. Lots of football to be played before then however and I've learned never to underestimate or disrespect any opponent. We are talking teenage boys here don't forget. What looks like should happen on paper isn't always what happens on the field.

 

Overall, I was pretty satisfied with Highlands last night. O line did a nice job of giving Pat all kinds of time to throw the ball, whereas, Pike was pressured heavily by Highlands' fast and quick defense. Pat had another very nice game. WRs ran sharp routes and has some really nice catches. Birds didn't run the ball much last night but I thought all the RBs did a nice job when given the opportunity.

 

Nice play by all the members of the D line getting pressure on Pike. When you can drop 8 and get pressure with the 3 rushing, the other team is usually not going to have much success passing the ball. At times Dixie ran the ball a little too well although Pike didn't have much success when he ran the ball that I can remember. Nice play by the LBing corps (except for the aforementioned problem with the run at times). Secondary played another really nice game.

 

Time to get focused on Western. From what I read and hear, Western has some really nice athletes and a nice football team. I think some folks consider them to be one of the better 4A teams in the West bracket this year. It will be really nice to see how the Birds match up.

Inadvertent disrespect

He might have been able to do something with past teams, but nothing on this team suggests potential state champ to me. Especially in 6A! Highlands is a lot more than just Dale as the head coach. The junior football league and the tradition also have a large hand in this. I won't take a shot at your football knowledge because everyone knows that no team in NKY has more of a football tradition than Campbell County. Except Scott. Maybe Simon Kenton. Pendleton County.:idunno:

 

You really did a lot to disprove my suggestion with this insightful post. The jr league is a good thing but it was around a long long time before Dale got to HHS and HHS has always been good but no where near the levels it has reached under Mueller. The only evidence you need is to look at how many of the Bird's state championships have came since Dale arrived in 1995 or so. He also stopped losing to local teams like Newport and ummm Campbell County. All I'm trying to do is compliment your coach for being able to take HHS to another level and you have to attack 4 other northern kentucky programs. I'd bet you're a guy that never even played while disparaging a bunch of people who have. It's good to know that to have football knowledge you have to come from a program with a ton of tradition and state championships. All those coaches on the Bird's sidelines that came from places like Bellevue and Newport couldn't know much then. Anyway this is way off thread topic and if you want to further discuss PM me.

Seriously? Were you at the game? Dixie has very little talent outside of a select few. It is very obvious to me that Dixie is the opposite of Highlands in that their athletes play baseball and basketball rather than being dedicated to football. I get so sick of reading on here every week how Tom Spritzky cannot coach. If Tom Spritzky coached Highlands tonight and Dale coached Dixie tonight, Highlands would have still won. You have to have talent to win consistently and have kids that are dedicated to the football program. There are many like yourself that try to compare Highlands to Dixie and some other schools and to be honest it is like comparing apples to oranges. I will close by asking if you know what Dixie's record was in basketball and baseball last year and what Highlands records were and then think about the statment that you made.
