Did we really look at this team in the preseason and think the offense was just going to bludgeon teams? I would have said pitching, defense, team speed, and runs scored, in that order.

So basically the pitching didn't do well earlier in the year and the bats carried them. Then when the bats cooled off, the pitching still couldn't do their part and pick them up some. Pitching has consistently been down this year, so how is the batting a bigger concern when pitching has been down all season long? There are two big stats that make up why the Reds have struggled. It's the team's era and where they rank compared to last year's, and the teams ability to hit with RISP. Both of those were way down from last year. However this team was built to be a team that relied on pitching, and defense it was not put together to be an offensive machine. So a team that is suppose to be built on pitching, but ranks 26 in MLB that seems like a big problem to me.

This had been a large problem as well.

Not exactly the season that I anticipated considering how the last one went. The bullpen has been too sluggish and isn't really a lot different from last year, but this year's team doesn't appear to have half the drive that the one from last year did. Two things are really sticking out to me: Rollen's injury and not having Orlando Cabrera. I believe that Cabrera was much bigger of a loss on the field than many anticipated; he's definitely the best shortstop the team had since Larkin. There could be plenty of other things contributing to their problems, but I strongly believe the few that I mentioned are strong contributors.

Almost lost him in the $1 concession area. I'm assuming they would've called up Hermida.

Rolen's injury and decline were very predictable, and there is no doubt it's a contributing factor.

Are you saying this team is built to score 5-6 runs per game? Come on, you got one guy you can count on consistently to produce. Maybe tow if you count BP. This team is built on pitching and defense. The pitching has not been good, hence a losing season. pretty simple. Volquez, Cueto, Leake, Arroyo, Wood, and Bailey were being couinted on to have good seasons. Except for Cueto, who has been better than average?

 

I never expect them to win games 3-2. I've always thought they would have an almost impossible time beating really good pitchers but would beat most of the 3-5 pitchers in the league because the Reds 3-5 would all be better. Fact of the matter is while giving up 4.4 runs all year the Reds were really good when they scored more. The pitching has been the same all year. Not good at all, but consistent.

Nope ... he was pretty bad with Cleveland.

Not that we have a clear better option, but I'm sick of seeing Janish. He's been a AA caliber player at best this year. .230 batting average with literally no power, and 2nd most errors on the team. I know that if Cozart didn't get hurt we probably wouldn't be watching him, but I just can't take any more of him.

Their Alonzo runs like our Alonso.
