Could be. What is Smith's average against lefties?

 

Not sure but it's exactly why I brought this up. It would be safe to assume, for whatever reason (like BA vs lefties) that he thought they had a better chance with Young Jr in the lineup, who's a switch hitter, than if Smith was in the lineup. Why doesn't Dusty get the same consideration?

 

I heard what Dusty said about Sappelt not playing yesterday and he never said he didn't play because he didn't have a chance to shag balls. At least he didn't say that in the pregame show when Kelch asked. He said that Lewis was something gaudy like 7 for 9 against last night's pitcher. To me, that's as good as any reason to play a guy even if you got one good game with Sappelt.

The Rockies aren't either. Those guys don't see "pennant race", they see, "win today", and they do what they think gives them the best opportunity to do so. Of course, not all decisions make sense to us or are even remotely close to being right.

Man, they're not very good. Dontrelle should be 4-0.

I hope Sappelt gets a few starts in a row in the home stand in LF. Because he's gonna get Tuesday the 16th(@Washington), Friday the 19th(@Pittsburgh), and Tuesday the 23rd(@Florida) off to "acclimate to their left field".

Another great offensive showing by the clueless Reds, Votto, Phillips and Bruce 0 for 10. Who was that pitching for the Rocks tonight, Cy Young? Oh wait a minute that was Esmil Rogers with a 6.35 era coming into the game. Glad there are no problems with the offense.

I have my moments. I really like Sappelt, his approach at the plate. Bright future or so it seems.

Listening to the post game show. They mentioned this during the game and again on this show. Should anyone want a stat.....Reds in 1 run games = 17-27. Not going to win any division with that. I wonder if Toothpick had anything to do with that? Certainly not all of them but imo a managers moves/decisions can win or lose some 1 run games. Just sayin'......

That's the difference between them overachieving last year and underachieving this year. Could Dusty have won more games for them, sure. What manager couldn't. But he also hasn't cost them as many as they have cost themselves.

One good thing is that the LLWS games started today on espn2. They are televising games all week. I love watching these games, 12yr. old kids playing ball for all the right reasons and they leave it all on the field! BTW, A Kentucky team plays on Wed. 8/10 at 11am on espn2. I think that I am right on that.

I was just throwing that one out there, Sure the Reds just beat themselves in some but managers decisions in one run games are important. I was just thinking of some of the imo bonehead pitching moves in some of those games that I along with several others on here thought cost them the game.

In toothpick' defense, I will say that he was there last season and they were .500 in one run games.

Not exactly the season that I anticipated considering how the last one went. The bullpen has been too sluggish and isn't really a lot different from last year, but this year's team doesn't appear to have half the drive that the one from last year did. Two things are really sticking out to me: Rollen's injury and not having Orlando Cabrera. I believe that Cabrera was much bigger of a loss on the field than many anticipated; he's definitely the best shortstop the team had since Larkin. There could be plenty of other things contributing to their problems, but I strongly believe the few that I mentioned are strong contributors.
