Now that they aren't in the race is it benefitting him to not play every day? Votto isn't going to make $17M as a Red in 2013 IMO so Alonso should be getting ready for when Votto gets traded which is probably coming sooner than people think. Also why couldn't anyone figure out that Alonso wasn't going to work out in the OF playing 62 games in Louisville? They kept running him out there though so who's fault was that?

I am not really a Dusty fan. However this seems to be following the path of the Reds history since I been alive. It seems like anytime the Reds have had a very good season, the manager is then let go a year after it or close to it. Davey Johnson was let go, in favor of Ray Knight and the Reds sucked after that. Jack Mckeon was let go, and the Reds didn't have another winning season again until last year. How much longer did Lou Pinella last after wining the World Series? I can't remember. And Now looks like Dusty will be probably gone to after this year. So the Reds would just be following their normal path if they get rid of Dusty. However in all those other cases those were the wrong moves, and really hurt the franchise. I think getting rid of Dusty might help since it will be such a young team, depending on who they bring in.

I thought Sappelt should have played. I do not think Dusty is the guy to lead what looks to be a major youth movement in Cincy. He's gone in the offseason.

These are professional baseball players ... not 10-year-olds. No reason to treat them as such.

True, they could be very young next year depending on what they do this off season. What has Dusty done handling the current young players on the roster that tells you he should not manage the next crop?

I agree with those that he has issues playing rookies. I have a feeling we'd get a big dose of Renteria, Cairo, Lewis, and Hannigan next year.

However do add me to the group that does not pin this season on Dusty. I think last season was an abberation and Walt overestimated the true ability of some guys and they are paying for it this season. Case in point Janish and Gomes

I agree but he doesn't get a Hall Pass. He has made his fair share of mistakes.

Hanigan is signed for cheap and does a good job with the staff he isn't going anywhere.

I always thought Homer was a mental midget because he'd get ticked.

That one statement has been my complaint with him for years, I have lay off him this season but I always thought that he had a serious attitude problem in that he imo thinks that he is the authority on pitching and cannot be told anything, he obviously is not. I will give him credit this year though for one thing, he seems to finally be growing up some.

I will be the first one to say and admit that I do not know as much baseball as some on here. I am not claiming that but I don't think that I am void of any baseball knowledge either.

My main complaints on Dusty are this........ Constantly changing a lineup daily, constantly putting people in different positions doe not work. A player just can't be plugged in somewhere and be expected to know everything on playing that position. A baseball team imo needs to have a basically consistent lineup to get used to playing/working together, not a different lineup every couple of days........Toothpick imo has no clue on handling a pitching staff.He will leave a pitcher in when everyone has known that the guy has been done at least an inning before. Dusty has a history of ruining good pitchers. Like my previous analogy of Toothpick on pitchers, "he has to have a gps unit to find the mound".........Paying attention to stats/numbers is one thing, most if not all go on that. Dusty takes it to ridiculous levels.
